He loved Football, women and Life and had a chilled personality considering he had the ultimate pressure Job in English Football but coped with the noise so well.
A good guy who tackled his cancer fate in a dignified way even when he knew the months were turning into weeks, turning into days.

A bit of a footnote in his own story, but the BBC documentary about the establishment of Derry City football club is worth a watch. They were eventually drawn at home to Benfica, then managed by Sven, who handled the disruption and possibility of violence very adeptly and with a lot of respect for the lowly opposition. Very much worth a watch on iplayer if you havent seen it.RIP Sven.1

RIP Sven. Thanks for the 5-1 in Munich. That was one of the best away performances I've watched from any England side in my lifetime. Arguably between that and the 4-1 against the Dutchies in Euro '96 for the best performance I've seen from an England side.
Seemed a thoroughly nice chap too. Will make sure I watch his documentary this week.2 -
In his autobiography The Didi Man, Hamann recalled lazing on a sun lounger by the pool at 10am when he saw Eriksson carrying a silver tray with a bottle of champagne.
“I looked up and said: ‘Boss, what are we celebrating?’… He turned to me and smiled that gentle smile of his and took on the air of a Buddhist philosopher as he said: ‘Life, Kaiser.’“Then, after pausing for dramatic effect, ‘We are celebrating … life.’”

Rest in peace Sven, gave me and everyone else a victory at the Olympic Stadium, Munich, I still have to slap myself to believe it happened. Remember we were nailed on not to reach the 2002 world cup let alone get as far as we did. Capped sir Chris Powell too

Manager of the only England tournament I’ve been to abroad , did all of Japan 2002 following England .
wasn’t too fussed when we lost my body was breaking down after over 3 weeks on the piss .
He always came across as a cool customer and nice fella .
Don’t think I’d been to an England game for years but was straight in the car up to Villa Park to see SCP’s debut .
