I was looking at starting a podcast of sorts with a friend of mine. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with hosting something like this and being a bit of a technician behind the scenes.

That part I haven't decided yet, was thinking live stream and then have it cut down in two videos, one where it's longer and edited, and the other a highlight type videoGlovepup said:Depends on what you are trying to do.

Be conscious of what it sounds like... I'm not very savvy about it all myself and FenAddick could probably advise me too - But I've seen a few YouTubers do podcasts / narration from indoors, and they do a lot of sound proofingBraziliance said:

Whereas I've done narration / recorded for my videos in my living room, its quite an open space, and the sound comes across as shite in my opinion. Not sure if there is any actual audio device that can fix that for you.2 -
This is the key thing. If you weren't doing video I'd say just hide under a duvet but not sure that would look great on a video! Make sure whatever mic you use has some form of cover and the outer isn't just a metal grill, this will help with plosives (hard noises like P's and B's). The third thing I'd say is make sure you have a clean feed for each individual contributor. If you're in the same room you want to have a very directional microphone and if you're not in the same room you want to wear headphones as quiet as you possibly can to stop them bleeding into the mic, this will help with any editing you do.ForeverAddickted said:

On a non-audio related note but more of a producer type thing, do a few run throughs that you record and send to people you trust before you publish anything. Tell them to be hyper critical, it's the only way you learn when you're rambling on too much, when your content has no relevance to the audience, what a good structure is for the content you want to create etc.3 -

There's of course two Charlton podcasts atm, the professional Charlton Live, and the more laid back Charlton Chronicles, but me and Sam want to do a slightly different version that's more centred around Charlton fans and stories etc rather than the game itself (unless there's something exciting to cover)1 -
Yeah we would want it to sound pretty clear cut. The reason why I'm after someone with a bit of a background of it, I'd like them to join the pod with me and Sam and be our technician of sorts. As you know from your VLOGS, editing can take sometime. If you do content based on fans then it won't be time sensitive.Braziliance said:

OBS is an open source software that streamers use, you can also record locally. Loads of how to videos on YT. Get a good microphone, and as fenaddick has stated sound proofing is a good idea.
YT also now had a podcast feature, but think that only makes it available in the YT app. For other platforms, check out Anchor which is owned by Spotify for an audio only version to be available on apple podcasts etc.0 -
