Just wondered if anyone else out there has any superstitions for match days (Aside from the red shirt etc.)?
I have match day underpants and always take a Charlton hat given to me by a Palace fan who won it in a raffle. Usually wear socks with some red in them...

Hope I'm not the only one...if so I need help...time to shave the hair off...

That's one that Carlsberg tried but as you say, we've been having a tour of the bloody turnstiles this year!!

When I'm getting ready to go to the match I never play any music by a band who support the opposition or come from the same place. Puts me in a difficult situation with those David Essex albums on Saturday!

I have a Charlton scarf which I keep in my jacket pocket. It started when I kept it in my pocket once against the Spanners, (for my own protection). We beat them. The next match I wore it normally and we lost. My mates pointed that out and it's stayed in my pocket ever since. How sad am I?
  • I've tried all sorts of things, but none of them last very long...

Don't know whether to admit to this on here - I haven't seen us win in person yet this season, and I will be there on Sat...cue albatross accusations if we don't get the three points.

My playing of a band who support the oppo before the game seemed to work today - and I think you know who I mean mate!!!

First time I haven't been to The Oak for a game for years. Went straight in and had a few watching Fulham and Man Utd. Two minutes to get served each time.
Will be doing this next game too. Can't change a winning formula!

I'm trying to decide whether it was the new shirt or the new shoes that did the trick today. I'm hoping it was the shirt, cos the shoes aren't totally broken in so I've now got blisters on me blisters. Hopefully they'll be more comfy by the time of the Wigan game.

I'll be wearing the same pants this coming Saturday - unwashed. (It;'s the only way)
  • I'll be slipping on the sexy little grey Y's again and the stripey red socks. If we keep on winning, i'm gonna be humming by the end of the season...

I hope it's raining next Saturday as I stepped in a lucky puddle on Saturday and got my left foot wet. If not should I just pour a bottle of water over it or should I create a puddle and step in it ?

For me if I am going to a Charlton game is to take the train and meet Medders and Bert at Sittingbourne.

Rag it down the A2 stopping off for a sarnie at the services near Gravesend then go via Dartford and Welling.

    Worth it.

I have tried so many routes to find the fastest to get to Charlton as it takes so bloody long from Carshalton station as they only go to Victoria at weekends.

For the west ham game i did another new route it was the quickest so far plus we won 4-0 so going to stick to that until we lose.

Tram from near me to East Croydon then fast train to London Bridge train to charlton - all done in about 1hr 15

anyone else do anything out of the ordinary that may of made you solely responsible for the fine result ?

I dragged a Palace fan to the bar to watch it with me and endure all four goals. Was not his greatest day and think i may struggle to get him to repeat it !

First time I can remember getting to pub opening time for a 3.00pm KO then carrying on till some ridiculous time. Not sure if I can handle doing that too many more times this season.
  • Stayed at my sister's in East Sussex (normally stay in London); Borrowed my sister's cardy to wear over my Baby Bent t-shirt; met Valley_McMoist and his clan in Crossbars before the match; used a different cubicle in the ladies; swapped S/T seats with Mr Weegie; oh - and did I forget to mention - had photo taken and a really good natter with some smashing guy called Paul Mortimer before and after the match.

First time I've actually been there to see us win this season - so what do I do next time???

er drank two bottles of champagne pre match... ? I could manage that. each week but perhaps not my finances. the flat was packed with about 15 of us in there, and as you know how small, thats quite a feat.

Perhaps Mortain could make himself available for a pre-match graffiti good luck charm? We could get him an away ticket each week and his eeevvviiil rune could spread doubt across that bloke's South Stand and into the opposing team.

there is always room for a little one.
  • I got up before 2pm, which is a very rare occurance on a Saturday (especially after a Friday like that), if we win this Saturday I'm gonna end up forcing myself up early every weekend, that is BAD NEWS.

Bump! I might as well come clean about this now I suppose. For my daughter's wedding in August I had the old barnet cut and trimmed etc. At some point during the evening session of the big day I said in front of witnesses that I wouldn't have another haircut 'til we lost at home, expecting that event to occur fairly swiftly. Well it's been a good five months since then and although the fringey bit at the front has been trimmed so that I could see where I was going, the rest has remained uncut. Now, for various reasons, I have had to have it cut this weekend and I am most concerned about tomorrow night and things going wrong. If they do I sincerely apologise but I'm hoping that if everybody sticks to their habits and rituals for a match day we'll get through it OK. (I suppose this goes for Tranmere as well). P.S The Norwich winner went in half an hour after I'd been attacked with the scissors. Sorry!)
  • March if you could just have it on an away match weekend that'd be great, and keep the mop chop to a minimum. Ta.

I don't really have a match day ritual, although a friend of mine and his dad have a great one. it starts in the morning and finishes at half time, very weird indeed. but it's for Spuds.
  • Joked in June about "not getting my haircut til we lose a Home match"..........
    Sandras not happy !
Also wear Green underpants, knitted socks and use turnstyle 31 (until we lose at Home.....)
