With it confirmed that the game against Rotherham won’t be postponed for the international break, I was wondering when the last time Charlton & England both played a competitive match on the same day.
Any ideas?

Closest I’ve found so far is
23/03/2018 Netherlands v England (0-1 to England - Lingard)
&
24/03/2018 Charlton v Plymouth (2-0 to Charlton - Page & Zyro)
That might have been Bowyer’s first game in charge as well?

Think we played Brentford in 2010/11 at lunchtime and then England played that evening at Wembley1

Never mind that England game was a friendly, not competitive. So I’ve broken my own rules already..!Callumcafc said:Closest I’ve found so far is

People wonder the strangest things!
Whenever it was, I guarantee both games were instantly forgettable.8 -

8th September 2018 we beat Wycombe 3-2 at the Valley and late that evening England lost 2-1 to Spain in the Nations League. I went to both games and never has the gap in quality between League One and the elite been so clear.5

Have today learned that we had a player called Zyro who scored against Plymouth in 2018. I must have been boycotting or so low on interest not to notice.

I did break my boycott with a 2-0 or 2-1 win against Plymouth (Bowyer in charge, 2 late goals I thought so not this game with Zyro) but when was that I now wonder.2 -

Think that’s the one! Don’t remember any others from more recent times. Zyro ? Nope can’t recall him , how many appearances did he make and what become of him1

1966 World Cup Final - Bobby and Jackie8

There was also a 2-1 win over Plymouth six months later in September 2018. Karlan Grant apparently scored an 88th minute winner. Maybe that’s the one @swords_alive ?0

Flying out to Dublin for the game Saturday, I had hoped Charlton would be called off.0

13 apps, 3 goals. On loan from Wolves. Remember they (Wolves) were bigging him up when they signed him but he got his leg broken by a nasty tackle in a cup game.Never really recovered and wasn’t the same player they raved about, got a loan to us for a few months and then went back to Poland.2 -
That’s the one, walked up North Greenwich after the game and went to WembleyCallumcafc said:

Not one of the worst loans we've had from memory. Just a tad slow for a wingerCallumcafc said:

Rallied really well that day and gave deserved optimism for the season which resulted in the Wembley win.1 -

No Zyro, no party! He didn't impress unfortunately....0

When we played Leeds in the first leg of the lay offs in 87, England were away to Scotland that day (as well as Rugby Union and Cricket teams having games on that day as well)2

There’s still time for England and Spain to catch up.follett said:8th September 2018 we beat Wycombe 3-2 at the Valley and late that evening England lost 2-1 to Spain in the Nations League. I went to both games and never has the gap in quality between League One and the elite been so clear.1 -

There was an international weekend when we played away to Swindon live on tv and couldn’t postpone it even though we had 3 (?) key players called up0

League games continued to be played even with players called up for international duty. I remember being at Highbury watching an Arsenal v Manure match (accompanying a friend) around 1968, England were playing Scotland at Hampden Park in the Home Internationals at the same time. I remember because Bobby Charlton was with England and Ian Ure with Scotland. May have been more.Henry Irving said:Before floodlights, England games, and FA Cup finals, were regulary played on Saturday afternoons at the same time as full league programmes.
May never have happened with a Charlton player?0 -
