Dan Potts plus one other

  • With Godden ill, Aneke injured, Leaburn broken done, Kanu on international duty, Ahadme joining the Jehovah witnesses and TC sold to Saudi, Hylton is now our main striker.

    WIOTOS
Still marginally better than when Davison was the sole striking option.

And the last time we were promoted we had a diminutive Irish playmaker. Coincidence? Absolutely not. IJWT.

Seriously though, I suspect this is a player-coach role, and that he has to be registered as a player to, well, play. But I think it will be a heavier emphasis on coach. And if it's not, then I think the bossman is right and this will start to feel like jobs for the boys.
I did also notice with the Potts signing article on the OS Jones talked for the majority of it about how important Potts would be about the place for driving standards every day in training and then almost added the stuff about him on the pitch as an afterthought. I think he wants lieutenants everywhere forcing players to not drop their guards for a second. It's a choice.
  • I have no idea how fit / how good Dan Potts is now days, and realistically, how much game time he will get.

What I do know in recent years, and for too many years, we’ve had Charlton players who have not been  taking responsibility's on the pitch, it’s not been good enough by any means.

If Dan contributes, and makes us stronger as a team, and our defence, significantly better, then I’m all for it.
  • If Hylton is announced as a Player/Coach, I’ll understand it
  • Wonder if Kanu will head back to Southend.

Hylton I dont really expect to see unless its in the EFL Trophy.
Hylton up top with Mbick in cup games, talking him through and coaching him on the pitch.  as @Jblock says, bigger picture.

I seriously doubt Hylton has/will been signed to start week in week out.  Disclaimer, please do not quote this at 2:45pm today!!!!!!

Ronaldo played in the Euros this summer. Hylton made 4 league appearances for a club who finished a few places above us.
But isnt signing players from teams that finished higher than us a step forward  :p:p

Watched one of our pre-season friendlies and saw Hylton try to make a run. He has those old, wooden Ben Watson legs. The guy is past it. Don't get this signing at all.
  • In pre season Hylton showed riot in an empty room qualities the tiny bit we saw of him.
  • Hylton sounds like a waste of wages to me and essentially has the whiff of LuaLua about it from last season.
How he will coaching young strikers like Kanu Casey and he on stand by if Leaburn comes back and feels a twinge or two ..

Not heard of this new guy Kanu Casey...🤔

  • As someone said the other day, would have had Wickham back over Hylton, at least we know what he could do in the (most likely) rare appearance.
But Wickham was injured for most of the time he was with us .. Hylton been with us all summer scored in pre season and not been injured once .. Hylton career record much better then Wickham when it comes to goals ..

He's scored something like 4 goals at league 1 level and the rest in league 2. Wickham been in the championship or prem most of his career

And it’s been about half a decade since he scored those goals in League 2. I presume we’re bringing him in for his amazing coaching skills (has he actually coached anywhere before) rather than as an actual player, madness if not.

It’s almost as if some of you are half a step away from advocating for a Director of Football type role to oversee and veto the manager’s decisions in the transfer market?

I like Nathan Jones a lot.   God knows where we would have been without him last year.

But Hylton is not the answer.
I agree mate I can’t see how this fits but in NJ we trust I spose

I think Hylton will go out on loan along with Kanu to National League with a recall clause if we lose Chuks or Leaburn through injury. Given the circumstances of both Chuks and Miles I think Hylton is a back stop. Has his Pro A licence and I suspect is being lined up for a coaching roll next season. No info, just a hunch.

As if he is going to play in anything other than that 2 bob pizza cup. We would have to be down to one fit striker for him to make the bench in a league game

You don't think Danny Hylton, the 'Camden Cantona' is creative?

I may have made the nickname up.

If Jones thinks it can work... can help... I mean its only going to be until January (for now), so wont eat into that window's budget.

Yes, it's weird the way this is dragging on. You'd have thought we were negotiating with some superstar player with counter offers from Spain or Saudi, rather than a journeyman lower league striker with little interest elsewhere.

I wonder if there is resistance from elsewhere in the club?

To be quite fair, if I was in charge of the money side I'd be seriously questioning giving Hylton a contract - if Jones wants him around on the training ground or whatever then that's one thing but does he actually bring enough to the actual playing squad to merit a contract? I'm not convinced.
