I think Jones is very good at certain things, simple passes, fairly strong, wins headers, but he lacks some of the qualities to be a top CB, so I think a back 5 suits him.
I'd like to see him on the left side, with Mitchell on the right and someone in the middle who can allow us to play it out a bit. I know Nathan Jones doesn't necessarily like to play that way, but it would be nice to have that option.
I hope in January we try and capitalise on a club looking to sale a player before he goes for nothing.
Either way, been impressed by him this season so far.0 -
He needs to play on the front foot and at full intensity to bring out his qualities. Slowing down into Hector mode leads him to lose concentration and some clumsy moments.

I'll probably get a LoL for this, but Ryan Innis was pretty good at it, would be nice to get someone similar without the red card in him and the turning speed of a tractor.

Seem to recall the Cambridge fans saying he was great with the long passes. I don't think he's that bad with the ball at his feet.0

My view of Jones is that he’s played outstandingly this season but has made two mistakes that have lead to goals in successive games. If that carries on, it’s a concern and another should be given a chance, if it doesn’t then we forget about it and remember what an excellent and dominant cb he can be.
Hopefully for all of us, it’s the latter.1 -

I don't think N. Jones will be changing out his namesake just yet but the mistakes will be noticed that's for sure.

I think we’d be much better with the ball with REG on the right and A.Mitchell moving to the middle. But I think we then look a little small, and Jones has been very good defensively this season, so I think the current set up is probably for the best3 -
What Jones did on Saturday happens so far before the goal it's not even in the highlights package on YouTube. I think it's harsh to single him out and more responsibility lies on the midfield for not getting close to the shooter much earlier. No player makes zero errors and players have to have each other's backs when a mistake does occur.15
-
But that doesn’t mean he’s absolved of any responsibility either.I’ve heard Brownie, and others, say that when you concede a goal there’s usually at least two mistakes you can point to. Everyone needs to keep pushing their standards, personally and collectively.0

Come on Brazilliance you see the game better than that
If he wasn't playing non league football at the moment, I might be motivated to fish out some highlights of dear old Ryan "bringing the ball out"

We need the Nabster back to ping those laser-guided left-footed crossfield balls. Gillesphey tries them but he ain't great at them.3

Are you sure? Looks like he plays for a team in the Qatari second division.

Reg is the best centre back we have on the ball. Not as good defensively as Mitchell or imposing as Jones though. I would personally find a slot for him for his qualities at bringing the ball out from the back but I understand why Jones favours the status quo.2

I would take Naby back in a heartbeat. Even if he was error prone, he could tackle and pass better than most of the players we've had since. Can't even be that old.8

Jones has been fine so far, will be interesting as the season goes on if they offer a new contract0

One of my favourites so far he’s come on leaps and bounds with some proper defenders around him. I can only see him getting better, as for the goal/mistake like others have said. His teammates need to have his back there and they all could of closed the guy down for the goal quicker.0

Jones is the only one of the 3 current CBs who at least tries to bring the ball forward and make forward passes (as opposed to forward hoofs).2 -
He's also earned us two points with his Wigan goal.3

Maybe it was just because he was the middle centre back that he wasn’t pressed, but it felt like a deliberate plan that they wanted him to be the one passing the ball, because he isn’t the best at it, and if so it worked3 -

I'm not saying I want Innis, or a player of his level, at all, rather someone who could try and run with the ball a bit instead of lumping it. We are missing it at the moment.

The other 2 midfielders position themselves nearer the striker, ready for the long ball and knockdown. So it is difficult for our back 3 to not resort to the long ball0
