Stockport Coach's move to Real Madrid off

Stockport assistant coach Andy Mangan has been denied a move to Real Madrid after his work permit was rejected.

The former Tranmere and Shrewsbury striker was on the verge of joining the La Liga champions to work under boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the switch subject to a work permit.

But the 38-year-old's application, which could have taken up to nine months to process, is understood to have been rejected by the Spanish government and the move is currently off.

Luckily their next match is the glamour tie away to Crawley…..so this will more than make up for the disappointment I’m sure.
  • A work permit to work in a European country, when did that change?

I think you might mean the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
  • With a surname of Mangan, he might be able to get an Irish passport, if his grandparents / parents were born in Ireland.

Absolutely right. Why should a British national take a role that would be deliverable by a Spanish national in Spain?

That thread is about managers being sacked, coming or going.  He's not a manager!  And he's neither coming or going!
  • Indeed, start a coaches not changing clubs thread.

If only it could get a permit to be a coach.

Not sure what the 486 has done wrong, not being allowed to be a coach is one thing, but being put on detour on match days, more thing doesn’t know if it’s coming or going.

Got to feel sorry for the guy, although I guess that Spain has 4 or 5 times as many qualified coaches than we do, so that may have influenced the decision to decline a work permit.

That's probably why they took back control. Or something.

Charlie Mullins of Pimlico Plumbers has announced he will leave the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to live in Dubai and Spain. I believe his reason is because he fears having less wealth in the new circumstances in this country.
I presume he won’t be allowed to do any work in Spain without a work permit, and only be allowed 90(?) days at a time living in Spain, which is what he wanted for himself and for everybody else.
  • On a point of order, Charlie Mullins was a vocal and influential remain supporter.

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/oct/05/millionaire-refuses-take-down-bollocks-brexit-poster

"The millionaire, who has a workforce of about 440, is one of the country’s best-known backers of the campaign to stop Brexit.

In 2016, he supported Gina Miller’s successful high court bid to give parliament a meaningful vote over the final Brexit deal and he donated to her End the Chaos campaign to publish facts about Brexit".

One frustration of Brexit is you can’t manage Benidorm in Football Manager and sign a load of past it lower league English journeymen and play 4-4-2 lumping it up to a big man.

Best you can do is find a Portuguese equivalent where they have fewer rules on foreign signings. But you can’t grind out a 1-0 win away at Barca or Real doing that, it wouldn’t be the same would it?

It's important that terminological inexactitudes are called out.

I appreciate your overview of acceptable content.

Anyway back to hilarious comparisons between Stockport and Madrid...  Nope? Got nothing.
