Charlton or Sky TV

Does anyone know if the footage of Charlton live games is any different between Charlton TV and what Sky shows?
Obviously it’s a different set of commentators and I assume you get the punditry on Charlton.

I think that if it's on Sky we get their feed, but if not then it's the much better CATV coverage...🤔
  • Never watched via sky, but after being subjected to their commentator for 10 minutes on Tuesday, I doubt I ever will.

I’m 99% sure it’s the same video feed with differing commentary teams. There are certain reverse angles you get to see this season that wouldn’t have been part of the coverage before Sky got involved. Plus their graphics are plastered over most (all?) of the replays etc.

I've never heard a commentator sounds less interested in commentating :D

As others have said, same video feed with different presentation. Same goes for virtually all sporting events, the actual sports footage will be the same worldwide
  • the sky coverage was not great on Tuesday. Single camera and awful commentary. She kept missing offsides for instance. (And that’s not meant to be sexist. Just fact).

Just a hint, no one would have thought there was a hint of sexism until you mentioned it. She wasn’t great but that’s ok, those games will have a low viewership and commentators have to learn somewhere and I’d rather it was that game than something massively high profile. She wasn’t great but still better than Sam Matterface!

Thought the commentary has been fine on Sky so far, although Charlton TV will be better as they know the club and players better. The Sky commentators often try and do their research on lower league games but get things wrong that are quite obvious to a fan of a club.
  • CharltonTV for me. Enjoy the commentary and money goes straight to the club.

She completely missed the penalty! It was only when a Cambridge player picked the ball up and started walking to the spot that she realised  :D

One thing I would say about the Sky commentators at all these red button matches is 'are they actually at the ground or are they commentating off a TV screen?'

If you're restricted to what's on the monitor in front of you it can be very easy to miss important bits of detail ... unlike Tel and Greg who only have to worry about the odd post or head in the way of their vision!

The multi game Sky coverage this season has been appalling. They are unable to stream a game without it freezing constantly, juddering or dropping it out completely.

The couple of games I tried to watch I ended up completely restarting two or three times as the freezing was so bad I was 3/4 minutes behind the live game.

You only have to look at Twitter on match days to see that it's not a small problem. It lights up 1000s of messages of complaint.

The usual response from Sky is we are working to resolve the issue with our support teams. As far as I can tell it's never been resolved.

You have to wonder whether they have bitten off more than they can chew and simply can't cope with the demand.

I've now paid for Charlton TV for the season and unless I absolutely have to, won't go near the Sky Coverage.

I watched the Sky stream via my Virgin Box. The picture quality was good and it was a nice bonus seeing as I don't have to pay more for it.
