It says a lot for the dreadful quality of our set pieces that one of them led directly to the Stevenage goal.
We started looking busy without creating anything but then faded and gradually succumbed to the pressure.
Chuks missed an absolute sitter and it may have been a different story if we’d scored first. But, hands up, we got what we deserved - bugger all.
Can’t pass well enough, Can’t move well enough. Can’t cross it well enough. Can’t finish well enough. Got to start doing better, otherwise with some tougher looking fixtures coming up we’re going to find ourselves rooted in mid-table, at best.

I don't get the rationale of managers who bring in players who 'done a job' for them more than a season ago.
Surely the present day form of players is far more important than their distant reputations? So far it looks like the Luton experiment is going exactly the same way as the Swindon one.17 -

Haven’t we got a set piece coach now? What’s he doing in the week with Coventry as it’s obviously not working on dead ball situations.
Jones has showed he isn’t the messiah of the chosen one and this is his level. The man has created a squad devoid of attacking intent or ability and every week he rolls out the same old crap on that pitch. He rightfully got it both barrels at the end of the game, I hope it motivates him because after their goal he looks just like Micky Apples. I doubt it will do though and he will make another 4 changes mid week and blame everyone else4 -

Thank goodness for those first 3 games. Since then we have 4 points from 5 games and Rovers and Burton matches now look very important as our other 4 in October do not look like games we pick up many points from to me. Hopefully Leaburn comes back and is a huge catalyst but that is asking roo much really.
I am worried about this season as I have seen such little quality so far.3 -
Everyone talks about the great start to the season. I attended every match up to Blackpool last week. Thankfully I'm on holiday. Putting the Bolton game to one side we have not been convincing in any other game. So people jumping on the promotion wagon either A didnt go to the games or B had a set of rose tinted specs on. Most performances piss poor and we nicked a goal and won. It appears today the other team nicked the goal. Lower mid table finish incoming.10

Jones made the decision that May didn’t fit his way of playing and he wasn’t going to change his way of playing for May.The signings we made were, if I recall correctly, bought with the Championship in mind. They’re not even cutting it in this league so is it the players that is the problem, is it the formation, or the manager? We are on a downward spiral and it doesn’t appear there is a clear way of halting it.
IF the system is going to work then Edwards, Small & Ramsey need to be able to cross on a sixpence. Currently crosses are either far too high or hit the first man.
Then we dont have anyone in midfield to play in the strikers. Or anyone to take free kicks or corners.
The only thing we are good at is defending. Yes, we've let in a few goals recently, but mainly just 1 (or max 2) a match. The problem is up the other end. We've fixed last seasons problem but in doing so have royally fucked up the other end.6 -
That we are equal on points with 6th after 8 games compared to last season is a positive still for me. The only real concern is that after a brief respite last season we are again without a goalscorer. Leaburn could be the answer. Looks like Ahadme and Godden are not.7

I think we had , what 1 decent chance in the whole match, back to back defeats, apart from the opposition, where are the goals coming from?0

Interesting to see Jones call Gillesphey the best technical player at the club.....2

I know I only had to travel 15 minutes down the road to watch the game but to be perfectly honest if Charlton were playing in my back garden I’d leave the curtains closed .Awful just awful . We’ve gone backwards from the Appleton , Holden ( insert name here ) days . We are absolutely toothless.Embarrassing5

The last time we had a midfield with less creativity than this was when we had Crofts, Foley and Jackson ( when his legs really had gone).
NJ and Andy Scott have a lot to answer for in not bringing in a creative midfielder.
We can shuffle the pack as many times as we want but without that bit of creativity that is missing it will make no difference.8 -
Amateurish performance against a shit opposition. Would like to say we're better than that, but there's been no evidence to suggest it.
If we're gonna finish in the top 6, let alone top 2, something drastic needs to change3 -

He's a good player who does his job in active play, he doesn't need to be shown up like this. But there's no quality in the rest of the side
I could be wrong, but I don’t think they would.Ramsey or Jones maybe, but none of our midfield or strikers, sadly.
He’s not the issue here. It’s his midfield partners.

Our style of play is like a lower bottom half team trying to grind out results. But we don’t have a reliable target man to play off, and our crossing and set pieces are poor. Our pressing isn’t even impressive any more.
I struggle to see where the improvement to make the top 6 could come from. Leaburn will help but doesn’t improve the above issues.
Jones has focussed so much on our defensive side we’ve gone too far the other way and lack quality going forward. While we don’t have many out and out creative players we don’t give the midfield much of a chance with our direct, defensive and risk adverse style.
Concerning where this leads to if Jones is determined to stick to this way of playing. He’s talked about being front footed in the past but I just don’t see it - ok we get the ball forward quickly but being organised defensively and concentrating has been such a focus. While they’re important we were never going to grind out narrow wins all season. We needed to improve on the ball and when attacking, and so far it hasn’t happened.8 -
Rather feel a lot of expectation is being loaded onto Miles. As I recall he didn’t set the world on fire last season before he got injured. When he played, he looked very miserable.8

I'm not blaming Chuks either for our recent performances but he 's got to be more clinical when he gets a chance.7 -

We have to start trying to play some football. There's a reason League 2 teams tend to go long and the higher up you go in the pyramid, players try to pass to each other.1
