Sasa Ilic - What's our Wembley hero up to now?

Thought you'd all like an update on what Sasa is up to nowadays. He's just opened up a luxury health retreat in Montenegro which certainly looks very impressive!
There's an interesting bit of blurb from him at the bottom of the home page. Worth a look. A bit different to what a lot of ex-footballers get up to after retirement so it's nice to see in my opinion.

What I like about Sasa's web site was that the accommodation section let you see precisley where tyhe room you were booking was located and whether it had a sea view. A nice touch.

Wasn't he involved in hedge funds and had set up a furniture making business back in one of the former Yugoslav countries?
I'm sure I recall something like that from a cityaddicks evening.

Was in Perast last year, a great place. Looks like I was a year too early though...

Still, intend to get to Andy Hunt's gaff some time, so have that to look forward to.

He made a brief appearance as a made up player in a small 'comedy' play about transfer deadline day a couple of years ago

Is Hunty still running the Belize place? Sure I read a good while back that he and the wife were looking to sell it. Looks idyllic, would love to get there one day and to Sasa's as well. What time's the Euro draw?? :-))

Just looked up Andy Hunt's place on tripadviser. Looks like a 5 star place that gets excellent reviews. He still had it in February as he and his wife were praised in a review. Looks a great place to go.

Sasa place looks nice but i'd be too hungry to enjoy the surroundings!
  • Just seen a clip on TV re Sasa Ilic and his post-football career. It was really about the development of golf in Montenegro but Sasa was the main man. He was shown teaching local kids the basics of golf.

Saw him last Sunday at Back To The Valley Dinner, He has not changed much and was quite funny as well
  • As well as the golf thing, Sasa is involved in some kind of wellness spa thing too.

Just got a message from a friend of mine (non Charlton) who is on holiday in Montenegro....

    The hotel owner? Sasa Ilic.

He was "talking about saving some penalty for Charlton in the playoff final."

    Here it is
    http://montebayretreat.com/about-us/

and here is Benjy Nurick’s excellent article about Sasa from last year

    https://medium.com/@benjynurick/sasa-ilic-exclusive-charlton-is-like-my-home-its-special-to-my-heart-906ab40eef55

i’d love to pay a visit, but it’s one to do with one’s partner, and this one’s partner is a bit dubious about the focus of activities, etc

How did your mate enjoy the place,@Huskaris ?

    He's really enjoying it.

Apparently Sasa is a "really cool guy." Nice that he's made a good impression.

Sasa was a gent when he joined the fans at Bartram’s for the 10 year anniversary of 98 play off final. I think it was the first time he’d watched the full game since the day.

It's an overused word, but for me he earns the  'legend" title without a doubt. A legend is a larger than life personality. His whole life story is  inspirational, but his football career is defined by our wonderful run towards Wembley, and it looks like he feels that way too. I 'm happy you've got me  thinking about him again this morning as everything else on this site is full of gloom, as is the weather.

He was pre-match guest on the live coverage yesterday - via Zoom from his Monte Bay place. Once again lit the room up.

It really did sound like he basically walked into the training ground  and said "Giss a job!" When Curbs was asked how he reacted, he he said "I just liked the front of it".

    Someone didn't get Charlie's memo.
