Pretty sure I remember an awful lot of these, Video footage from The Museum of the great man...maybe we could do with giving our strikers a copy to refresh the memories of where the goal is...🙄

    The best
  • Love it, proper goal scorer.

    Great times watching entertaining football.

Jones, notice how players cross the ball and don’t go backwards at every thrown in.

They don’t make them like that no more I’m afraid
  • Goalscorer compilations from the museum's YouTube channel - Page 2 — Charlton Life

Lots of other compilations for other strikers on the museum's youtube.
  • That first one v Blackpool was my first ever game and was on MOTD.
  • I enjoyed that period the first time round but looking back The Valley was a mess and barely a crowd, at least nowadays the ground has improved.
I would of attended most of those games at the Valley but my memory of them times was fast flowing football with 2 wingers, a couple of forwards and lots of goals. The reality was something a little more pedestrian and with players not as athletic as present day.
Hales was good for us and had a wonderful temperament.  ;)

Great awareness and anticipation, clinical finishing and not a knee slide to the corner flag in sight.

    168 goals for Charlton.
As I used to go home and away most weeks back then I probably saw the majority of his goals live.
My all time favourite Charlton player.

I remember Killer playing for us, but I also seem to remember that some weeks we didn’t have more than 3.500 fans at The Valley!

not just goal scoring, set piece and open play accurate crossing .. also shows how important was Paddy Powell
  • don't forget Colin Powell
Agree, Killer has a lot to be grateful for the supply from people like Powell, Flash and Paul Walsh to name but a few...but he was a clinical finisher to the slightest of chance...

He is what I measure all strikers against.

Unfortunately 95% since have not come anywhere near. Only Bent & Mendonca are up there with him & could guarantee goals.

I'd add Andy Hunt to that list.
  • Hales and Mendonca were similar in that you never gave them any space otherwise they'd punish you.

Mind you the crosses into him were excellent and that folks is what we are really missing at the moment.

Still the best times though. I'd rather then than now.

    Totally agree.
I made plenty of friends back then in the covered end and we are still going together now.
The late 60s, and 70s along with the Curbishly era were the best times for me.

I think the opposition at 9.12 (in blue) is Middlesbrough....Simonsen's debut.

I wonder if in 40 years time we will have a similar thread for Gas the non shooter ahadme. Or chucks the 20 minute wonder man aneke. Jones would still choose the latter 2 over Hales 🙈

To be fair Killer is 72 but would probably still be a better option!

Easy to forget just how good Killer was in the air.

What I would give now for a Hales/Flanagan/Powell front three.

Amazing that the blatant handball to prevent a goal only resulted in a booking!

Majority of those goals I remember them as it was the first season I went to all of the games. Note the home fans in the Jimmy Seed stand vs Man City.
  • Those were the days when you could switch between JS and The Covered End at half time...👍

remember him getting sent off against Sunderland at the Valley for kicking out at one of theirs, a posse of Sunderlanders came close to trying to murder Killer
