Lot of room for improvement, and we are in striking distance of the play offs without playing well.. This time last year, the season was over, and we were looking over our shoulder. We know, the team know, Jones knows and the owners know we should be doing better.. Last 3 games has been much better than the previous 8 games or so.. So hopefully, we can push on now.4

We miss Alfie May. No doubt about it. That, in my opinion, is the biggest reason. We’ve started to have injuries but, in general, we have stronger players this year in almost every other position. But, we miss an Alfie type of player. Basically we’re lightweight in forwards who can actually be relied upon to score goals.4

Disappointed. Massively disappointed18

Bang average
Have replaced our 3 best players from last season with bang average players
The style of football is bang average
I wouldn’t be surprised if we beat Wrexham as everyone in this league is bang average other than Brum and it’s the best chance we would ever get to get out of this horrible league but we won’t do it unless Taylor/Coventry/Berry clicks and Leaburn discovers his goal scoring touch
Just another meh season
Dont dislike Jones but some of the recruitment has just been appalling, signing players off the back of what they did 5 years ago at Luton and making Docherty captain being prime examples

Wish we could find a player, with a bit of stardust in his boots, a Yann type of pkayer, who dragged us through matches, and made everyone up their game.8

Optimistic. We can achieve promotion this season - despite some dour football.
Things are looking better than the last 2 seasons - even if it would be even better with some departed players.5 -
The league isn't as good as I was expecting it to be. For the most part we have been dreadful, yet somehow we are still in the top half.
I'm not convinced by Jones tactics, I have no idea what his expectations or game plan was against Barnsley. I feel we have the players to be competitive, but after 12 fixtures nothing is settled. Just stick with the diamond and two up top. Leaburn out wide is comedy gold, done the same with May last season.
Mannion/AMB
Small/Watson

Edwards
Taylor
Docherty

Main concern is performances. If we were.playing really well but just not quite clicking it would be easier.to make a case for things changing and Birmingham and Stockport were both good games TBF (I didn't see Bolton). But there have been way too many guff performances with results going both ways at the end of them almost on a flip of a coin.
It was obvious in the summer we needed another CB as Gillesphy isn't up to it, Zac appears not quite ready and REG was still relatively unknown. I thought Dan Potts was that man but he seems to have disappeared.
We need to stay in touch and have a good Jan window but with Andy Scott still taking part in transfers the chance of a good January looks slim to me.3 -
Said it Saturday to my youngest when leaving the ground, this squad will not make the play offs, too inconsistent, too many go missing during games, and defensively at times its a nightmare, just knew we wouldn't hold on last night, it was like night following day in predictability.

Now we're 11th with 18 points.

Depressingly familiar - we aren't good enough for the playoffs, we're nit bad enough to go down.
Plus ca change.2 -
We are a very average team. We may scrape into the playoffs if we have a decent January (although I have limited faith based on the summers transfer strategy) but even if we make the playoffs we won’t win them.3

Having said that to play Birmingham, Stockport and Barnsley and have 5 points isn't bad going this month
I still believe 2nd place is up for grabs because I think Wrexham are massively overachieving at the moment - but realistically we should still make the playoffs
Beat Wrexham at the weekend and a few teams will hopefully start to notice us a bit more but the MAJOR concern for me is the loss of Lloyd Jones.0 -

We keep sacking managers and recruiting average players and expect things to change, madness.
No investment of quality players = no promotion.7 -
I think we are heading in the right direction. I think we will be there or there about with the league being tight.
What I will say is I am seeing improvements from last year and we are evolving. Rome was not built in a day and think if we do miss out this year then we need to remain calm back Jones and the project as it may take another season to really have a go.

We've gone from a relegation flirting squad to a pretty mediocre side playing poor football.
Yes it's an improvement. But when you see other clubs improve more rapidly on a small percentage of our budget, you wonder is it enough?
Jones deserves the season 100% to see how it pans out, but he's definitely not the saviour he was heralded in as.6 -

Mid table mediocrity beckons .. we’re way off the pace to be contenders3

I am not at all convinced by Nathan Jones. I think he is a bit of a nutter, and his ego can cloud his judgment. He should have fought tooth and nail to keep Dobson and May. His selections and tactics this season mostly make for very dull football, and I can't see it changing with the players we have recruited. More mid-table mediocrity I fear.5
-
I am quite disappointed so far. Our transfer window was poor, we can all see that now. I don't think Jones has fully implemented a style yet, too many weird/inconsistent performances, and we still seem to lack a bit of fight at times, which surprises me.
The only main positive is, 2nd place is genuinely up for grabs. And that's not because of us, it's because of how piss poor weak the rest of the league is. If we won on Saturday and last night, we'd be sitting 5th and have the chance to go 2nd with a win against Wrexham, as it stands, a win could still see us land in the play-offs.
I think Jones needs backing in January. It's a shambles that we are even talking of another transfer window (as they've had enough time imo) but the injuries to Jones and Ramsay have ruined our main strength, which was our solid defense.
I still think we can finish the season with promotion, but that's only because of how pathetic the rest of this league is.
Congrats to Birmingham, without a shadow of doubt in my mind they're already promoted. Levels above every team.3 -

Callumcafc said:From this points tally in the past we’ve finished 3rd and 16th. So it’s still too early to tell.
The season we finished sixteenth this point, we won 2 of the next 11 making it 7 wins from 23
How many games we win between now and Wycombe on December 29 will give us a good indication for the second half of the season.5 -
I think we have a tendency to overhype our players (as do most fan bases) and this squad isn't as strong as last season (maybe with Mannion and A Mitchell being the only strengths). I think we're 4/5 top end league 1 players short of a promotion push. That said January is the worst time to try and bring in that type of quality without spending ridiculous fees on players and even then clubs are reluctant to part with their top players. I think without getting another solid defender, an attacking minded midfielder and a better forward we will finish mid table this season. Which would be an improvement on last season's position, which puts into context how really bad we were last season. This isn't an over night fix and we need to keep with Jones. I probably sound ridiculous saying this as it's only October but I believe we need another summer transfer window to fix this squad to stand a chance of top 6.1
-
Don’t really get the references to the play offs by some.Promotion by whatever means is the only measure of success. It will mean little if we finish 6th and lose at Wembley.3
-
We may well complete the task of finishing in the play-offs. But it's crucial that we finish 4th, as opposed to 5th or 6th.
This is important, because it would mean an approximately 12-place improvement in our league position in one year, which is surely what the plan is.
Because, if that were to continue, we'd finish...
18th in the Championship in 2025-26
6th in the Championship in 2026-27
14th in the Premier League in 2027-28
and runners-up in the Premier League in 2027-28
This would bring about two meltdowns on CL, of course.
In the summer of 2028, we'll be inundated with those who think Jones has taken us as far as we can and should go.
And, the following season, there will be lots of threads on CL with titles like Need a spare for Galatasary (a), Anyone know the train timetables to Paris? and Where exactly is Leipzig?5 -
