Godden, I think, will end up being our highest scorer. He was injured but now back at full fitness and he is an out and out striker. I have many Cov City mates who are still disappointed he has left them.
The dichotomy will be who's best to play alongside him, for me, if he could stay fit it would be Aneke, but perhaps Gus can do the job, I'm not sure TC or DK are correct, the Stockport game may give us a clue to future formations. If NJ can get the strike force right, and get a playmaker in midfield, then, being optimistic,  I think we can really push on this season.

Appears he’s a very good golfer.

Keeps getting mentioned by Jimmy Bullard on the ‘Golf Life’ YouTube channel as one of the best footballer golfers.

Most goals scored per 90 minutes played (minimum 3 goals)

    1. Matt Godden 0.86
    2. Alfie May 0.85
    3. Lee Gregory 0.84
    4. Dion Charles 0.79
    5. Louie Barry 0.68
    =. Elliott List 0.68
What makes the above an Elliot list?

Watched Jimmy Bullard tonight on YouTube playing Jason Steele (Brighton goalie). They called out Matty Godden & Matty Cash (Villa) to join them next summer for a two day tournament to find the best golfing footballer

Yep, agreed. I really like Godden, but he's been fairly anonymous in our last 3 matches (until the penalty)
  • Mainly because the link between midfield and attack is not there yet.

When the penalty was awarded, I was shitting myself that some muppet of ours was going to try and grab the ball and demand to take the penalty.
I honestly wouldn't have backed any of ours to have scored that. (In fact I am not even sure I would have backed Alfie May)
That was a consumate, class penalty from somebody who has taken pressure penalties before and backs himself to score. Brilliant pen.

Perfect penalty, power height and straight down the middle keeper no chance.

Don't think the keeper would've saved that even if he had stayed down the middle

    He needs some service first!

That's what I thought. If the 'keeper had stayed in the middle, the ball would've taken him into the back of the net, too!

  • I don’t think he has a bad return in the league so far? Far from the worse striker we have signed for league 1

Agree and I think he's a good player but perhaps not got the legs to be as effective outside of scoring. I think part of the issue is that he was billed as a taller, more aerially capable, more hold-up version of May but he's not, really - at least at this age.

If only Mannion had done that for Cannon's goal for Wrexham.

Fair play did a job on the wing at the end of the first half too. He gives his all for the team which is commendable with this bunch
  • A good penalty taker, but looks fairly innocuous in open play. Not helped by the poor service, and hoofball tactics admittedly

Plays a lot better with Kanu as part of a front two so far.

Our problem is not giving Godden any decent service. I have many Cov City mates, they thought Godden coming to us was a good move for him and us, BUT, as they told me, he'll score goals if he gets the right service. He's used to having balls come into him from out wide or to his feet in and around the box. We don't do either very often, yet he's still delivered 7 goals. I'm sure he'd get a lot more if we gave him decent bloody service!

Would be a lot more effective if we played more balls in the box, that would require some sort creative player and or wingers which, sadly, we...don't have....or would even play if brought in.

    👀

A truly ambitious club would have both.

We weren't a good enough side with just May and are not a good enough side with just Godden given Leaburn's injury and the ghost of Chuks Aneke.

Same as losing players like CBT and Dobson. If you want to progress you keep your best players whatever it takes and replace the dross.

Alfie has been mostly playing on the left behind the striker for them so not sure that stat is as good as it looks.

Not bad versatility for a 'one-dimensional' footballer!

He scored four goals in August before Stansfield came in and has one goal through September, October and November since. Them signing - and playing everything through - Jay Stansfield hasn’t been very good for Alfie’s production.
