  • I still think oddly that he will find his best side soon and we’ll click. Genuinely don’t know why.

but you can’t ignore the fact that despite playing poorly and with no consistency we’re still in touch. Just. We’re also not losing, which is no coincidence in the main.

i work with a die hard Luton fan. He says what he sees at Charlton now is almost exactly what happens at Luton.
It took time to implement and settle but it clicked eventually.

we’re still a player or two short in my opinion, but not as far off as some here keep saying we are
I agree with this. Another CB and a creative outlet or ball carrier in the midfield and I think it will click.

I have to say that ive backed the majority of managers, with the exception of Pardew, Dowie and Slade, but i am now feeling that I might add another to that little list. My defence of the last few managers is because they were unfortunately employed by lunatic Chairman but this Manager cannot lay claim to any such interference, lack of backing or lack of funds. I have watched every game this season and the football has been dire, from wing backs that don't cross the halfway line to full backs that suffer the same restrictions. A midfield that has no guile, doesnt create chances, just runs around a lot. A winger called Tyreece Campbell who, we are led to believe is an excellent front two forward. No width to the side, by design, allowing opposing full backs to join their midfield and nulify ours. This team will not push on into the top six because it has no flair. I will not get into the Alfie May argument but if you sell your top scorer on the basis that you can produce a side that is better without him, then you better produce the results that you firmly believe would happen without him. So I have to say I have run out of patience with Nathan Jones, I just don't have belief in what he is doing.
I agree but the main problem is his signings which have been dreck apart from Mitchell.
Presumably with a 5 year contract he will be given time to rebuild again?
  • NJ is looking all mouth and no trousers as my old grandad used to say.  It may turn around of course and i pray it does, every Saturday.

A few injuries and we are fucked, although a full NJ squad wasn't pulling up trees as it was.

I am one step ahead of Shooters, I lost the faith about five years ago.  I spoke to an old mate for the first time in years today. He knows me as a dyed in the wool Addick, and when we got around to football, I had nothing to say to him.  We are shit, have been for years, and the crying shame is we are such a fantastic football club.
But you've been on CL for 17 years and I only ever recall you saying you've been to The Valley a couple of times?

I don't think we were as bad as some are making out. Although still don't think we're producing performances anywhere near the calibre needed to finish top six.

Yeah, but other teams are not either.

If the promotion chasing pack are not beating us, then we've just got to hang in there until we sort ourselves out.
Like Lee Bowyer's promotion winning team in 2019.

i would agree if our midfield was Cullen, Bielik and Aribo and not Coventry, Docherty and A Campbell.

Coventry is pretty much the dictionary definition of 'a Cullen', it's the hyenas who are the real enemy others who lose massively by comparison to that team
This the player who passes side way and backwards most of the time. When he passes forward more often than not it is to an opponent.
He cannot keep the ball when he has it his feet and cannot win a tackle.

I’m still not convinced by him tbh and my view is Dobson would walk into our team but I will say it must be difficult to pass it forward when you know whoever you pass it to isn’t going to control or shield the ball enough to keep possession so you know in about 5 seconds the ball is coming back and we are under pressure
Dobson would walk into our team, yes, but Coventry would still walk into our team
Would he really. Poor again yesterday. I'd rather play Taylor of the two.

Whatever the reasons behind it and regardless of the ££’s taken surely the important thing is that the Valley looked great without the gaping holes of empty seats for once. I honestly can’t see a downside apart from all those pesky new comers disturbing the stalwarts whilst trying to get to their seats 😜
I’m getting increasingly grumpy with age, and I was quite concerned that thousands of day trippers would do my head in yesterday but it was actually totally fine. Would love to see a packed Valley on a regular basis but sadly I think it’ll just be for one off occasions for the foreseeable future.

He’s the best of a really poor crop of midfielders .  Taylor is probably second.  It’s genuinely the weakest part of our team .

I agree mate although it was a major inconvenience not have a spare seat next me where I could leave the molton hot 🥵 steak pie for an hour to cool down enough to eat. How do they get them that hot ?

Cullen used to surge forward with the ball.
I don't recall Coventry doing likewise.

Ben Watson used to walk in our team because his legs had gone !

If only Nathan Jones would quit the comedy and go to Specsavers he might pick a decent team.

Really poor again? He has been consistently very good for us this season. Maybe one or two off games but easily one of our best performers. Never goes hiding, can pick a pass and tireless effort!!
  • I knew it wasn't going to be a good day just 15 minutes after leaving home, as we were met with a multi-car shunt on the A2. After finally getting passed it, we were immediatley met with another one. (Bloody Bluewater shoppers). Finally got to my usual parking space with just 15 minutes to spare, walked away from the car to see a traffic warden on the opposite side, noting all the registrations, so I walked to the ground knowing I'll most likely get a ticket. Got to the ground and there were millions of people queuing to get into the Curbs stand, bloody great. Wrexham scored a forunate goal, they we scored a fortunate goal (no way he meant that), then the ref dies and we take a break. Second half was a scrappy affair, with the visitors looking likely to take all the spoils. NJ then brings on some old fella that I assume won "A chance to play for the Addicks" in a Valley Gold draw and Now I'm 100% convinced we're going home with our tails firmly between our legs, but being only one goal down, I sit it out (made the mistake of leaving too early too many times over the years). How did Ravan not get a straight red for hacking down TC, I'll never know. Nowhere near the ball and his pure intention was clear for all to see. I'm glad he did it though, as the free-kick led to the penalty (which I admit I didn't see the handball). So I left the ground somewhat happy, only to turn into the street where I parked, to see a swarm of yellow ticket plastered on multiple windscreens. Got to my car and...........nothing.
So, I would like to personally thank Dizzy Doris and her ilk, for having their prang on the A2, as if I had arrived earlier, I would almost certainly be looking at a £70(?) fine now.

    Happy days
? could someone have removed it? That would n't be a defence against the fine. resend the message in a month
I have considered that this is a possibility.

Covered End, I actually don't think his signings, overall were that bad, Ramsay and Small he had under him at Southampton so he knew they would handle this division, Mitchell has been good, as has Godden, the jury is definitely out on Ahadme, Docherty and Campbell but Luke Berry and Josh Edwards are a step up on what went before, for me it's the tactics employed. I have seen some posters declare that we will certainly be trying to bring in a playmaker in January, really ? There is enough in this side to be more offensive in it's outlook but there some key indicators in the past 13 games that show that Nathan Jones sets up his sides to defend first and if we get a goal, great, but don't come over the half way line, just in case. Wing backs that didn't overlap and get crosses in but made a back five almost immediately the game kicked off, the goals for column, the lack of width within the side. Saturday's second half performance was shocking, the passing was as poor as I've seen and quite simply we got lucky with the penalty, I don't think Wrexham were outstanding but they looked a more complete unit than we did. Jones complaint of injuries hampering our progress holds some water but bearing in mind most fans would consider that the loss of Ramsay and Lloyd Jones is the key loss because it's weakened our back four, there are no injuries to our midfield, in fact we have Taylor added to the mix after being ignored for ten games. I gave Nathan Jones my backing because he openly admitted after the Orient home game that we would become more fluent, I've not seen any sign of that thus far.

I wouldn't be surprised if it started clicking in to place more but I wouldn't be surpised either if it went tits up from here. We are still in touch and it is a crucial part of the season. We have to improve our away form for starters.  We have to score more goals and we have to go back to defending like we did at the start of the season. Jones made a good point about the first, it was the freekick that was very avoidable and we seem to be a bit hot potato ish the way we play sometimes. But there are spells when we show we can do it so I suppose confidence and consistency is the order of the day.
  • I agree with all of that Bailey.
But I would add Hylton to Ahadme, Docherty and A Campbell as bad signings and our problem is in midfield and up front.

We have lost physicality from the side so I think we need to bring Small in to bring a bit back. Talking of physicality, I am impressed with T Campbell compared to last season in that respect.
  • We aren't going to go down.

I think we consolidate our Mid table status.

We had our scare last year, I think we have no chance of going up.

Drift through the season and hope for something positive between now and 2030.

I think we have a decent change of getting into the Champ over that time frame.

  • What’s the honest likelihood of them returning more frequently @Valley11 ?
