When I saw him in the first two home games I was gobsmacked how poor a player he was. I ended up watching him off the ball as I couldn't quite believe he was that bad. He was all over the place, as if he hadn't played professional football before. I thought it may be a confidence thing but nothing has improved so far. I don't buy this 'hasn't had the service' argument because as soon as Chuks came on the whole forward play was transformed, flick-ons were won, positioning was spot on and there were assists and goals. Ahadme couldn't even stay on his feet. I also don't buy the 'he tires out the defence' line, any amateur footballer can do that and I'd argue that Chuks does it so more effectively.

It’s not working with him is it! I think it’s time to focus on using Godden, Chuks and Miles as the starters. We can’t keep waiting until deep in the 2nd half before we start bringing these 3 on. Otherwise our attack is basically non existent for a large part of the game.

What does Jones see in him that literally everyone else doesn't?
  • Miles and Godden and Chuks to come on around 60 mins. End of.

We dont have any better than that.

Definitely what we need to go with on Saturday if Leaburn is ready to start. Godden has nine appearances in all comps, only 3 of which have been starts, but he has 3 goals, and would have 4 if Mitchell hadn't bundled in his goal-bound header from 6 inches last night (which Mitchell was right to do). He hasn't done so much to influence games outside the penalty area, but he can finish and he moves like a goal scorer. He's not perfect but we desperately need someone like him in the side right now. There was also one flash of what Leaburn will bring to the team that I just think Ahadme never will when he backheeled it across the box and very nearly found Anderson. That bit of invention and quick feet Leaburn possesses coupled with Godden's poachers instinct, it has the potential to work as strike partnership. None of it will matter if we keep trying to play like a 1980s Wimbledon though. That has to be the main focus - playing through the lines more and giving the strikers something to work with.

I think it’s very unlikely Leaburn will be ready to start on Saturday. We really don’t want to be stupid and rush him back too quickly and risk injuring him again. His fitness is too important to gamble on a game we will probably lose anyway

We don’t have much choice at the moment, we will probably have to start Godden with one of Kanu, Ahadme or TC

Yeah, I completely agree it would be a bad idea to rush him back and only he and the medical team can make a judgement on what he is safely ready for. But 50 to 60 mins with him being replaced by Aneke might not be beyond the realms of possibility.

Loving our striking options at the moment:

    Leaburn - Not fit enough.
    Kanu - Not ready.
    TC - Not working.
Ahadme - Not gonna talk about it.
    Aneke - Can't start games.
    Godden - Can't press.
    Hylton - Can't run.

  • He's played for over an hour for the U21s.... hes been training for over a month with the main group.

At some point you need to go for it, even if its starting him for 60 mins (which he has already done anyway). Then Chuks for the final 30.

We cant go in with Campbell or Ahadme again.

So poor again. A mate of mine checked and he won 1 out of 10 aerial duals. For someone who was signed for pretty much that purpose alone, not good enough.

I don't like hearing him getting pelters, end of the day, he's on a 4 year contract, we need to pray he can turn it around. Getting on his back will probably just make it worse.

After this though, we need to blacklist Ipswich, cause we seem to be cursed when making signings from them.
Darren Bent, Matt Holland, Darren Ambrose, Hermann Hredarrsson
Nearly 20 years since we signed the last of those.

Fraser, Ladapo, Penney, Ahadme, Camara, all duds.

We need to consider them a club who know when to get rid of a player who isn't up to much, and make sure we're not the ones buying.

Given we won our first three and he is new I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I can’t see anything that he adds

    He’s not quick
He doesn’t hold up the ball
    He’s not a finisher
He doesn’t look like he’s a threat in the air

A forward usually has one/two of these attributes

Can quite easily see him going on loan in Jan if he continues this form
  • I will admit after his performance against Pompey in the friendly I was quite upbeat.

i Still think (hope) there is a player in there.

However he needs service, at the moment I expect he doesn’t know whether to get in front of the first man when we take a set piece or  cross a ball or stand on the far touch line. Currently  we either don’t beat the first defender or put it out for a throw when taking set pieces or crossing a ball. Yes we have scored from a couple of corners and a cross but how many have we under or over hit already.

We need a midfielder with a bit of guile or who can play a killer pass ( I reckon Claus could still do it now at 47). We don’t have that and like in the past couple or seasons we are reliant on mistakes or a ricochet to create chances.

another season of middle table mediocrity beckons and a probable 1sr Round FA cup exit are currently all we have to look forward to.

How come Chuks manages to work it with the same service and style of play. Ahadme is just not very good. Perhaps it’s a confidence thing and it will all click, otherwise we’ve paid big money for a dud on a four year contract.
  • He's proved that he will score from a decent cross. Gave Mannion no chance.
  • It's different for a player coming on and needing to make an impact and fitness issues aside, Chucks is one of the best Footballers in the League.
But the Gas is still shit!

Why do Charlton fans overrate so many of our players. Chuks is a useful sub but one of the best footballers in the league?

100% agree Aneke  is the better striker. It might help that he’s more physical ans suited to this style of hoofball  but it seems he can only play 30 minutes tops apparently.

Aneke has assisted on two goals but his only goal was a wonder strike not from a cross or set piece.  Given Aneke seems to be the only person who can put a decent cross in, maybe he and Ahadme should start on Saturday.

Personally like most fans I suspect would prefer a fully fit Aneke  to start every game or Leaburn when fit.

Ahadmes goal scoring record was not great and he was never going to match May’s goal total. The annoying thing is Ipswich seemed happy to loan him in the past and I am guessing he was in contract as we paid a fee. Understand Jones doesn’t do loans but if he was a loan and not a player that cost £900k (apparently) and what we apparently  received from the sale of May we might not be so critical of his admittedly well below par displays to date.

Don't forget he had sticky tape on his knee when we signed him…that must take a while to get past….

I have asked before, why have we signed a play for a lot of money and given a 4 year contract to. Who is not suited to the tactics/ style of play of the team as established by the manager Jones.

  • Early in the season NJ stated that Ahadme was not used to playing in the manner NJ wants and it will take time for him to adapt.
Why sign a player who you know doesn't play to your system and why pay such a high alleged fee???

It’s a mystery to me as well. I’m not sure other than hoofball ( and so far he isn’t great at that ) what style of play would suit him. He can’t run onto through balls, he looks like he is running in treacle ! I’m 62 but I would fancy my chances in beating him in a sprint ! He hasn’t shown any glimpses of being able to link play. I’m pretty sure Ipswich have had our pants down again ala Frazer

Because we'd sold our main striker and missed out on our main targets so were desperate.

We move into November and Gas moves back into positive goal scoring figures for the season…

    1-1+1=1
  • Tidy swivel and one touch finish
nice pitching wedge pass from Gillesphey in the build up but genuine Sunday morning park defending with the header and keeper

Much like Steve Brown didn’t half volley them in from the edge of the box every week, but we loved it when he did ..

I don’t think so, wasn’t it just Bair we missed out on? More realistic is we signed a relatively young and inexperienced player on a long deal with the belief we could mould him into the player we wanted him to be
