Best album by far.  Oh the irony.
  • I like early U2 most, but having said that the most recent album was really good

My top 3 songs - In Gods Country from The Joshua Tree   /   11 o'clock Tick Tock  (live version superb, better than album version )   /   Another Time Another Place from Boy   with honourable mentions to A Sort of Homecoming , Wire and The Unforgettable Fire from The Unforgettable Fire album and Even Better than the Real Thing and Bullet the Blue Sky from Achtung Baby
  • Hasnt been a U2 thread for a while - could we have it purely about U2  rather than  any other reference the OP may have been possibly referring to, possibly

I used to go to see U2 regularly back in the early eighties and at that time they were my favourite band. They were fourth on the bill at The Lyceum the first time I saw them! I remember they played two consecutive nights at the Marquee in Wardour Street;  I went the first night, and they were fantastic.  I persuaded a couple of mates to come with me the next night, but despite standing outside the club telling them to come in they coaxed me on the the pub just up the road as the beer was cheaper, and we never came back. Their loss!

My favourite song was An Cat Dubh, from the first album. When they stopped playing it (mid-eighties) coupled with the fact that Clayton and Mullen were rude to a friend of mine backstage at Hammersmith Odeon I stopped going to see them. Never really liked them since...

I think the original post is supposed to be about the victory of Trump in the American election, not about the songs of U2.

    Of course it wasn't Seth.
    Was there an election?

There was an election in the United States of America yesterday won by Donald ‘grab women by their labia’ Trump.
Having heard Bono on Desert Island Discs recently I was unimpressed by his self regard which has made me hear U2 differently.
I used to quite like some of their stuff, but would now prefer to play Billy Bragg on my radiogram.

I used to play Billy Bragg on my radiogram also, until my tennis elbow prevented me from winding it up.

    Here's a tip when listening to U2.

Turn the treble right down to zero - it takes the Edge off.

It was only right we put The Joshua Tree album on when we visited Joshua Tree National Park in California.

I did that too. Probably loads of people do. Personally I only went there in order to do it! It was so long ago now that I had it on a 90 minute cassette with The Unforgettable Fire on the other side.

The best thing about that National Park was the people. I was hitch-hiking and a guy picked me up, took me rockclimbing and let me stay over at his place. A woman who I think worked at the information centre let me stay at her place too. All I remember about her was doing a tour of her extremely dry garden of cactuses.

Anyway, back on thread (and I thought about this a little without checking online before clicking on it):

    In God’s Country
    A Sort of Homecoming
Daddy’s gonna pay for your crashed car
Even Better than the real thing
    An Cat Dubh
    Wire
    I Will Follow
    Beautiful Day

I was a big fan. The Zoo TV tour at Earl’s Court is unforgettable.

However,  I wish they’d stop. They’re boring and they're spoiling their legacy.

By far? In 2010 you said:

    ’With or Without You
    Sunday Bloody Sunday
    Bullet the Blue Sky
    Trip Through Your Wires
    Get On Your Boots

The Joshua Tree is one of the best albums of all time’.
