Fireplace replacement

Looking for advice and, preferably, someone who can help.

Living room fireplace needs to be taken away (already disconnected and back boiler gone).

Do not want a replacement fire, just replace with fire surround and mantelpiece, and block the hole with boarding.

We have received some ridiculous quotes, so would appreciate some ideas. I can’t do the work myself.

Cheers

  • I built my own fireplace surround from slate from Berwyn quarry. I can send you a picture if you were interested. I sent a picture to the company and they put it on their website!
  • Not on there now...

I used Peppers a couple of years ago, as did a good friend. Great service and delighted with what they did.

  • Can’t assist with this - but - our first house when we got married, was on Green Walk, Crayford - had 2 fireplaces downstairs - got rid of them, but when I took out what we thought were Yorkstone stone slabs out, they were gravestones 😱

Some advice needed….we’ve been quoted a stupid amount for a gas fireplace replacement and build out of a chimney breast from a precast flu wall. We’re looking at my partners dad building the chimney breast out and was wondering what materials do you have to have for the chimney breast. I’m assuming fire board
