MATCH THREAD : Huddersfield Town V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 23rd November 2024 : KO 15:00

So footie is back on after what seems like an age, in fact I had to refer to the OS to remind me who we were up against today, so a trip it is up to The Kirklees Stadium AKA The John Smith's Stadium, where we take on Huddersfield who currently sit eighth having picked up seven wins, two draws and five losses so far this season.
We've met on 92 previous occasions winning 37, the Terriers 36 and the remaining 19 encounters resulting in draws, Charlton's last trip to the John Smith’s Stadium resulted in defeat back in February 2020....😫
So a safe journey up to all the brave souls travelling today in the face of storm Bert!, no doubt we will be cheered on by a good turn out as per, and today we will be wearing our grey third kit
So three points anyone!...here we go
Team news bit late...bloody OS for ya!!
Ramani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson and Thierry Small will all start this afternoon’s game as Nathan Jones makes three changes from the side that played Exeter City.
Allan Campbell moves to the bench while Zach Mitchell misses out through injury. There is also a place on the bench for Tyreece Campbell, who picked up an injury in the Addicks' 2-2 draw with Wrexham.
Academy starlet Josh Laqeretabua is also named amongst the substitutes, featuring in a league squad for the very first time.
Given the versatility of the squad it means the Addicks may line-up in a number of formations including the 4-box-2 and 3-5-2 formations used most frequently this season.
If operating a back four then Edmonds-Green would join Alex Mitchell, Macaulay Gillesphey and Josh Edwards in a back four with Conor Coventry, skipper Greg Docherty, Karoy Anderson and Thierry Small operating ahead of them.
In whichever formation used it is likely Miles Leaburn will partner Matty Godden up front.
If Jones opts for a 3-5-2 then two of Edmonds-Green, Edwards and Small would likely operate as wing-backs.
The Campbells and Laqeretabua are joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Luke Berry, Gassan Ahadme and Danny Hylton.
Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Edmonds-Green, A.Mitchell, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Anderson, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, Godden
Subs: Reid, Laqeretabua, Berry, A.Campbell, T.Campbell, Ahadme, Hylton

I thought Huddersfield played at Leeds Road?
At least they did when I last went up there, one foggy midweek night.
We lost, of course.3 -
At least we shouldn't be as bad as the last time...0

"Today we will be wearing our grey third kit" - to match the sky?

Not sure if that is 4-3-3 with Small playing advanced, or 3-5-2 with Gillesphey in the centre of Defence, with Edwards LCB0

Back to 3 at the back and Taylor has disappeared. Nice to see TC on the bench though2

Luton contingent benched . What does that say during an injury crisis.1
-
Surprising 3-1 road victory.1

Taylor injured. Not on bench even. Has he been left out completely? Can't see anything but a resounding defeat today. Nothing like feeling positive is there.1

At least Small will give us width and try to get to the byline. I think it's 4-4-2. Anderson should help with the press too.0
-
Bang average line up.apart from our front two

Laqeretabua has really looked the part whenever I have seen him play.3

The way it's laid out on the team sheet doesn't suggest a back 3.
It looks more like:
AMB
REG Mitchell Gillesphey Edwards
Docherty Coventry
Anderson Small
Leaburn Godden
So Small shoehorned in further up the pitch. Also could be a flat 4 midfield as Docherty has played as a right midfielder before in his career, but very much like a Johnnie Jackson on the right instead of a winger0 -
Z Mitchell out injured but nothing about Taylor0

Second consecutive international break where we’re coming out of it with more injuries than we went in. And none of them involving the players who actually went away on international duty. What the fuck do we do at Sparrows Lane?16

I don't think Jones likes Taylor's workrate or ball recovery and doesn't see his passing as sufficiently compensatory. Whether he's right or not...I've long ago started to doubt his judgement10

That team is putrid2

Could be 4-4-2 with a box midfield, a flat 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or a even form of 4-3-3, though I think that’s unlikely under Jones.0
