"Dr Abbott, could you please spend a bit more time getting the better players fit again; and spend more time making sure the rubbish ones stay in treatment for longer? Thank you".5
-
"Dr. Abbott has unfortunately had to cancel his appearance tonight, after suffering a freak injury this morning while brushing his teeth. He is expected to be out for a period of time, we wish him a speedy recovery."20

Question:
Were you aware of Chuks Aneke before you took the job on?0 -
This is it. 30 questions about Chuks; end of zoom.carly burn said:Question:

Should be interesting for sure, I think it's noteworthy how Will has gone from getting lots of coverage and screen time from the club in the summer to moving much more into the background, I guess pre-season is more a time for sharing squad fitness and programme updates, just think it's interesting more than anything. For clarity I am not suggesting Dr.Will isn't doing a good job, it is frustrating that we're seeing our usual, important difference makers getting sidelined for considerable periods, but this is the Charlton way.0

But as Jones said (one of the only things worth listening to that he's said this season), we aren't picking up muscle injuries, in the main, which are the avoidable ones- indeed it's only Jones, if you don't count Chuks, I believe.YannTheMann said:Should be interesting for sure, I think it's noteworthy how Will has gone from getting lots of coverage and screen time from the club in the summer to moving much more into the background, I guess pre-season is more a time for sharing squad fitness and programme updates, just think it's interesting more than anything. This is on Thursday, and looking more important, in a bad way, than we could have imagined when it was first announced and it looked like we were fitter than for years and avoiding the self-inflicted hammies etc.
Like most of us, I'm not a fan of Brownie in-game on Charlton TV, but before and after he makes a lot of pertinent points, on subjects like this which others are wary of touching. Yesterday he said a few things about this which are worth remembering before we vent our spleen on Dr Will:
- this situation has happened at least 4 seasons in a row.
- How bad are we compared to other similar clubs? (n.b. yesterday Hudds apparently had a few out, and in game lost two more to non-impact injuries)
- Brownie says-while acknowledging that memory plays tricks - that he does not recall it being like this in his day. One factor he cites is the sheer number of games played. What else might be behind it, he asked, and are the sports scientists (he meant across the game) looking into the factors involved, in case they are all missing something? I think that's such a good question that it might be an idea to ask Brownie to pose the question himself or let somebody pose it on his behalf. ( @Weegie Addick ?)2 -

There were more games 40 years ago, with less subs & on pitches that had little grass after xmas.PragueAddick said:This is on Thursday, and looking more important, in a bad way, than we could have imagined when it was first announced and it looked like we were fitter than for years and avoiding the self-inflicted hammies etc.

There were cup replays.....after cup replays. League cup was 2 legged affair (certainly early rounds). In Forest's 1980 European cup season many of their players played 70 games that season.
Maybe too much running & closing down nowadays.1 -
Any updates on player returns?0

Yeah apparently we cant send them backMendonca In Asdas said:Any updates on player returns?21 -
he wouldn't talk about individuals but said that a few are due back in the next couple of weeksMendonca In Asdas said:Any updates on player returns?1 -
Why do they treat it like a trade secret these days? It’s just an update on each player.lancashire lad said:

His Wi-Fi suffered a few injuries tonight, and is expected to be out for several months.1

Will is first and foremost a doctor - patient confidentiality would be fundamental to him.valleynick66 said:

A very good guest despite the WiFi glitches. Swerved a few direct answers but came across as eloquent and competent overall. Write up to follow on CAST website within the week.6

And Jones has made it clear he won't give updates, I assume as it can only help the opposition.bobmunro said:

Let me rephrase then as obviously I don’t mean to reveal confidential details.bobmunro said:

I would suggest that if the playing management wish to convey that sort of message then it is for them to make that call.

I would suggest that if the playing management wish to convey that sort of message then it is for them to make that call. It’ feels unnecessary and exaggerates how much difference it would make to the opposition. After all every week Nathan tells us how difficult the opposition / venue are regardless of their league position 🙂
It might be nice to hear more honest updates sometimes.1 -
No, probably just the next opponent. Other managers and the club have given far more detailed updates in the past. Now we barely get confirmation of the type of injury each player has.eaststandmike said:

You may be right, you may be wrong - I wasn't commenting on whether or not the 'club' in the form of the playing management should update the fans on likely returns, I was pointing out that as a medical practitioner, Dr Will Abbott is not the appropriate person to do that based on doctor/patient confidentiality - and it was the said medical practitioner who you were criticising.
