Guess they’re trying to put him in the shop window, to flog him in January.stop_shouting said:Love the guy and a great personality.
will have a great career but not with us.0 -
Should be playing left wing in a front 3 for us.
Need to play our best players & find a way to get both him & Edwards in the team.9 -
Yep we don't have many good players, so not to play him is a clear and obvious mistake.
Unfortunately loads of mistakes from Jones
this season.8 -
I wouldn't mind seeing him and Leaburn up top either side of Godden in a front 3. Midfield 3 of Taylor, Coventry and whoever's least shit of Docherty/Anderson/A Campbell, Ramsay and Edwards full backs, Jones and Mitchell centre backs in a 4330
-
Remember there was an article about when he was at Southampton and on loan at Port Vale; "There was unhappiness from Small’s side that he was being used up front after coming on as a substitute. The reasoning given for the positional change was that his physicality and powerful left foot would be favourable in higher, more threatening positions."Oh Eddie Youds... said:Should be playing left wing in a front 3 for us.

Screw Godden, TC, and Small either side of Leaburn would be the way to go if we want to play a front 3. Leaburn and TC have been consistently our two most threatening looking attacking players (excluding Aneke because we just can't rely on him being available).sam3110 said:I wouldn't mind seeing him and Leaburn up top either side of Godden in a front 3. At least Godden has goals and/or assists to his name. TC looks exciting but hasn't produced anything this season in the leagueExiled_Addick said:

And you want to drop our current top scorer?0 -

Leaburn will finish the season with more goals than Godden. If you put him wide, we're back to playing the way Appleton wanted to. TC makes stuff happen. Just because he's not the one finishing things, yet, doesn't mean having him on the pitch isn't a positive influence on our attacking play.2

Can see us playing him at LWB and Edwards at LCB in a back 5 at some point. Would work well I think.6
-
Not totally against it but not sure Edwards is good enough in the air for CB0

Although the stats back you up, but how many minutes as he had as a winger? When he is played on the wing, things happen.sam3110 said:

Having a wide outlet helped create our second at Barnsley and led to the a free kick and penalty against Wrexham.0 -
Feels for the most part as though Small is better now he's not playing.
For the majority of this season he's been downright awful, a shadow of the player we saw last season for us
His passing wasn't good enough, and his crossing went straight to the opposition. Whereas last term he was the ideal replacement for Blackett-Taylor, if not an even better option as he can defend as well - Of the three big players that we've lost (May - Dobson - CBT), the latter is someone we had replaced.
Pains me to criticise him, as along with Ramsay he's one of my favourite players, if he can show the form from last season then he's an asset, and thankfully its something he's done in recent showings.
But dont think Jones leaving him out has been a mistake by any means. Statbank alone until the Barnsley game has him rated among the bottom half of performances this season, so its not like he's stood out himself.2 -

I didn't find that part at all convincing when I heard the audio of the interview.4

No, he's clearly off at the end of the season if we can't sell him in January.Chunes said:I didn't find that part at all convincing when I heard the audio of the interview.1 -
Tbf, I'm not sure if Gillesphey is too great either, imagine Jones will deal with anything left side.Oh Eddie Youds... said:Not totally against it but not sure Edwards is good enough in the air for CB
I don't think Small will be staying. Similar to Leaburn, I don't even think he's too good for Charlton atm, they're both mid-table league 1 players, however, clubs will pay for talent, and they're both players with high ceilings.
Small this season hasn't been as good as last season, but it's still a shame he won't stay, as he is a fairly dependable player, and seems a good character.2 -
We'll sell him and Jones in January.1

The only reason Small hasn’t lived up to last year is because NJ hardly ever plays him.Braziliance said:

He’s too attacking . Jones would rather 7/10 Ben patrolling the left flankOh Eddie Youds... said:

I like Small but if he’s going to be that attacking he has to learn how to cross well consistently otherwise he’s not a reliable creative outlet3

In part but it’s also what training is for. I know you can’t accurately recreate in game scenarios but there must be something (more) that can be doneScoham said:
Agree his crossing needs to improve, but he can only improve it from getting regular game time.fenaddick said:I like Small but if he’s going to be that attacking he has to learn how to cross well consistently otherwise he’s not a reliable creative outlet1 -
If he moves on in January it will be Smalls sixth club. Quite a tally for a twenty year old. At some point I think he needs to find a settled home and stick for a bit. He’s got bags of potential and I’m not sure he’s reached it yet due to not settling anywhere.4

I’ve been following Charlton for over 30 years and I am struggling to remember many that I would class as good crossersScoham said:

And good crossing also needs good movement in the middle, with players moving into space, rather than all standing like statues in the middle.fenaddick said:

Partially that's down to the individuals, but mainly is something you should be working on in training. Who goes to the keeper, who goes near post or far post, who drops deep, who blocks opposition players etc.2 -
He certainly won’t fulfil his potential being managed by Nathan Jones.ShootersHillGuru said:If he moves on in January it will be Smalls sixth club. Quite a tally for a twenty year old.
