Video file playback issue

I have just got a new PC running Windows 11. Transferred all my old photos/videos to it. All ok except when I try and play a stored video file I have saved (i.e. saved WhatsApp video). When I click to play it says "class not registered" . If I open it with the latest version of VLC player I can hear the sound from the video, but not get any picture playback.
It has been a few years since I had a new PC, but I vaguely remember issues like this years ago and I think I had to install codecs or something ?
Any computer experts know what I can do/where to go ?
Thanks.

Right click on the file, select open with and then choose the old Windows Media Player. Should work.1

If you want it to work with VLC player, then I suggest downloading this Codec
I recall having the same issue with VLC recently, and downloading / installing this worked for me

Cheers @ForeverAddickted . I do have VLC but only sound plays so will try this as I think this is what I had to do on W10 yonks ago now you have said it.1

Will have to make a change of some sorts in October but I am used to Windows 10. I didn't like it when I first got it but it is intuitive for me now. My laptop is a quite old but it is set up just how I want it. I might pay to extend my Windows 10 support as whilst I can update to Windows 11 on it, I think the processor isn't supported so it is the work around method. Maybe I will buy a new one. It isn't the cost, I'm really attached to this old laptop. I got it cleaned and had thermal paste added a couple of years ago but it just goes and goes and it does everything I need it to pretty well. I did add RAM up to 16 gb which helps with opening multiple windows.1
