Dan Potts joins on short term contract (and leaves p5)

I suspect the principal driver here is Nathan Jones getting some allies around him.

But do they on the current player/coach contracts that they're currently on? Is Potts even on a hybrid contract?

They are both said to be player/coaches, so yes, he is.

Also it was the way that some team got around have Wayne Rooney on their books a couple of years ago, as "coach" doesn't count towards SCMP.

Do you have insider knowledge to make you so sure? Hylton was announced as a player/coach but not seen that confirmed by the club for Potts

I think too many view this as a black and white situation when there are so many different variables at play, and most of them are not seen as they’re completed at Sparrows Lane.

As far as I am aware, Potts is a player and Hylton is a player/coach. There’s nothing to say otherwise.

The benefit of having Hylton as a player/coach is that he is amongst the squad far more than what any of the coaches would be. He’s able to set the tone and culture and help the younger players like Miles from within rather than from the outside. That’s a delicate role and skill to get right as you’ve got to be seen as a team mate but also as a member of the staff who want to help improve. Sometimes coaching isn’t even on the training pitch, it’s the conversations Hylton would have within the changing room with the younger players that usual ‘coaches’ just wouldn’t have.

It is this which is why I see Hylton definitely staying on until the end of the season where they’ll assess and he’ll probably become a full-time member of the coaching set up. This is an important transition for him as well as for us. It’s almost 1 year since NJ took charge and by having people he’s worked with to help create the direction of travel he needs to when building a project in and around the place, it needs to be understood that this plays into a bigger picture.

We’ve been told many times to be patient and he will build something and take us forward. He can’t do that on his own, no one can. So whilst Hart has retired to spend more time with family, and other coaches are probably settled in work themselves, this “hybrid” role as such that people have called it is probably the next best opportunity available and if it works and brings more out of the attackers the longer the season goes on, that can only be a positive thing.

Potts is a different story. His pedigree says he should be in the team over Gillesphey. He has though had a long time out injured or without proper football and at his age, it could be more challenging to get back to those levels. If he is here as a player to challenge and get into the team, which I expect he is unlike Hylton as NJ has said only about Hylton never coming in to play 90, 90, 90 etc. then you would hope and expect more from him. If there is another player available who will challenge the back line and first team more than Potts, they should be considered and brought in if possible. However, if he is able to play a part between now and the end of the season, you would hope he has the ability to perform to the standard required.

Although we most definitely can improve defensively, especially at left centre back and bringing in cover/competition for Ramsay, with 10 league clean sheets in 23 games, it’s not an area of huge concern. If, and it’s an important if, we manage to keep Jones and fit for the remainder of the season, and with Ramsay coming back shortly, I am not too worried and would anticipate we finish the season with around 20/21/22 clean sheets.

It’s up top where we need to be putting the ball in the back of the next far more than we have so far, despite in recent games/weeks where things are really showing signs of clicking. The ruthlessness to win games and go on the run we need is a bigger area that needs addressing and is what I am anticipating that we do this window by bringing in an attacking midfielder and potentially a wide player with pace. And if possible, moving on Watson and signing a right wing back too.

League minutes. No one cares about the two bob trophy minutes.

Fwiw I wouldn't think that the total cost to the club would be 3k ( c1500 for the two) .If its more then it's a waste 

Hylton has the opportunity to further his coaching experience ..that's the trade off 

Potts the opportunity to get fit ( not looking likely) ..that's the trade off 

I would keep Hylton and Ditch Potts

I am expecting a  52 minute video about his two games, but I would of thought at least a statement. Hylton, on the other hand, retweeted the post from Charlton the other day (so I am guessing he still a coach)?
