Macauley Bonne - now at Maldon & Tiptree (p36)

Pretty much every signing at that level will be on a free and you're ignoring the fact that he is probably one of the highest paid players in their league.eaststandmike said:Not sure we are in a position to take the piss out of Southend on this one. I believe they got him on a free so zero expenditure on a risk
If rumors are to be believed we paid close to 1m for Ahadme and his record is virtually identical to Bonnes this season
If we could swap Bonne for Ahadme and get our million back it would be good business3 -
I am not ignoring anything and wasn’t considering wages as I have no idea what Ahadme is earningChris_from_Sidcup said:

I was simply pointing out that Ahadme is one goal better off than Bonne this season so equally as poor1 -
Granted Ahadme hasn’t exactly set the world alight however his strike and technical ability with his goal against Southend is something Bonne could only dream about.eaststandmike said:Not sure we are in a position to take the piss out of Southend on this one. Bet he dreams about the goal he scored against Derby, great build up & clinical finish from the edge of the box.MintoHumbugs said:

2 leagues higher, playing with a condition a condition that hospitalised him.eaststandmike said:

He was mentioned on the other thread so thought I'd get an update on him.
Still yet to score for Southend in 23 appearances.
8 goals in his last 115.

25% of the goals he has scored in his last 115 appearances were against Charlton and for two different clubs ffs. We are the kings of the ex-player gift.Chunes said:He was mentioned on the other thread so thought I'd get an update on him.

A friend of mine is a Shrimper and he says he is absolute dog toffee
Another mate of mine is a fan at Gillingham and he, and his long-suffering wife told be he was absolutely useless.
Coupled with the amount of times I have said the same I reckon it's safe to say he has done well to steal a living for this long but he really ought to call it a day
And to think he turned down playing internationally for Zimbabwe when he was with us because he wanted to remain available should England come calling
Yet another deluded player with an agent not telling him how it really is!12 -
Someone made the point that they was annoyed replayed were scrapped. I made the comment Southend missed out on their replay and he didn't get his match at the Valley hardly a huge mention warranting an update.Chunes said:He was mentioned on the other thread so thought I'd get an update on him.

You've lost me there... I think it's fine to update a player's thread. Some aren't interested in what's happening with ex-players and that's fair enough, there's a few topics on this board I'm not interested in, I just don't open the thread.JustFloydRoad said:

I am trusting you then to update us on when he scores a goal then. I got stick updating the Lyle Taylor, another controversial Charlton player, thread (someone will probably update that one now) at least he scores goals unlike Bonne.Chunes said:

2 caps for Zimbabwe and was called up and ready to go in 2021, but couldn't due to Zimbabwe being on the red list.
Don't think he has had a chance since.

Does seem suspicious that he's been apparently fine to play full time football ever since but just not for Zimbabwe.Swisdom said:

Don't think he has been good enough to play international football for Zimbabwe or England (his best chance of England calling would been when he was at QPR or Ipswich not Gillingham or Southend). He wasn't the same player when he came back to us (and if he can't get in our team why do you think he would be an international player)?North Lower Neil said:

Yet another young player he thought he had made it when following large transfer fees and increase in wages, rather than thinking he had to keep on working to develop his talent and experience.0

Back in 2019 there was a comment, from Talksport, that “Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne could be about to pause his international career as he sets his sights on a possible England call-up in the future,” but that was pre him playing for Gillingham.se9addick said:

He’d already played for Zimbabwe when we signed him the first time hadn’t he? No he hadn't, and if you look at the article it says 'the Addicks ace has had an excellent spell in the side as a replacement for Lyle Taylor, scoring five goals in seven starts' and they were tipping him to be the next Jamie Vardy.
Although he has played for Zimbabwe, he has only played friendlies so (like the Declan Rice situation) they wouldn't count officially. (since they were not competitive games).
I don't know of any non-friendlies he has played for Zimbabwe so anyone that has that information can feel free to correct me.

I think you will find that he has 5 caps for Zimbabwe and scored 2 international goals.2
-
It's sort of sad in a way, he's 29 and yet really struggling at a level he was very good at at 23, 24, despite having had access to better coaching etc in the 5 years between the two.Chunes said:He was mentioned on the other thread so thought I'd get an update on him.
Still yet to score for Southend in 23 appearances.
8 goals in his last 115.
But then he comes across as an arsehole, so my sympathy is pretty limited.9 -
