On another day we don’t make them defensive errors. The problem with ‘on another day’ is the chances we don’t take. We have to learn to be more ruthless but I just don’t think we have the players to do it.

Absolutely imperative we get another decent wide option in before end of Jan as we look so much better with width, relieves tired players and it allows our central players to control games.

Oct/Nov period with that narrow hoofball will end up costing us massively.

I assume we will now play Crawley on 4th round day?
We're playing Stevenage that day, they're already out as well

No because we’re playing Stevenage on 8 February.

WTF is this commentator on? - He's done well, but he mentioned earlier than PNE had a Goal Kick when it was clear from the signalling that it was a corner.

Now he's just done the reverse saying we had a set piece, when it was a GK
Kept talking about Ashley Maynard-Brewer being in goal too
    Wish he had been
Why? Can't blame Mannion for the first and no chance with the second.
Whilst the majority of blame is with Mitchell Mannion is definitely partially at fault for that goal, he should be more committed to that challenge , he should have seen what was coming and gone in a lot harder imo

Karoy looked decent in his cameo.

We desperately need to start converting our chances.
    This.

Should have beaten Reading last week & should have at least taken tonight into extra time. Reason why we dudnt do either.....lack of a finisher.

Year after year we sign useless ineffective strikers. We (son & I) were going over past strikers before the game. From Josh Parker, Hemed, Ajose, Varney, McLeod, Church, etc etc. And then when we finally sign someone decent (who even wins the golden boot in a team that finished 16th) we sell him the following season.

We now seem to be finally creating chances only to find we haven't got a striker to finish them off.

Ahadme isnt the player we need. Sell him & buy a finisher / poacher.
  • At the game.
Only have a couple of points to add to what has been said.
Thought our chasing and pressing out of possession was really impressive all game. We need to keep that up. We won possession many times throughout the game through it.
Agree with may of the mixture of positive and negative comments.
I really thought we would have hardly any fans there. I'm local so no great journey, I'm going to guess in the region of 300 there.Respect to you all with long journeys home

100 likes. Sorry Ahadme but another 4 years on your contract just cannot be spent at Charlton. I'm not knocking your endeavours, but your aren't at this level yet. Go and learn your trade where it is a bit easier. It isn't League One.

I didn't watch tonight, as was at a Bill Bailey show instead, but it sounds like a decent enough performance.

For info Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, is from Preston, hence the music!

Looks like PNE want to sign half of our team and we didn’t look out of place. Third game my united supporting mate had been too and the other 2 we had won but he said by far our best performance tonight. Shout out to the hero’s who are travelling the longer distance. We’ll both see you at Bolton. UTA

    And Crawley are playing Bolton.

Only the 1st and 2nd round weekends are left open for L1 and L2 fixtures so no free weekend to slot other postponed games like Crawley in.

Could have been scripted. Joyless Club of No Excitement quietly slips out the FA Cup on Mongolian TV Channel 12 on a Tuesday night when everyone is watching the Premier League.

11 seasons since we last got to the 4th round under SCP. And we have only been in the 4th round twice in 18 seasons now, which given we didn’t start till the 3rd round in a number of those years is great going. We must be the worst FA Cup team in the country to the extent I think we might be actually be allergic to it.

However…another clear improved performance let down by two poor defensive lapses. Team play and individual performances continue to improve. I really don’t think we are far off proper clicking.

However unlike many clubs we have won the cup. Far better to have been a cup holder even if before my time, than a nearly ran.

Predictable result but sounds like we gave it a good go.

Focus on the league now. Get to 50 points and then see what we can do from there.

Didnt watch a dodgy stream or listen to the radio. Just seen the highlights & so here's my take on it.......

    1) Backpass not as bad as been made out. Mitchell turned it back inside unaware there was an opposition player there. 9 times out of 10 that goes unpunished. Also unusual for him as he typically hoofs balls into the stands but player on his outside made that difficult to do.

    2) A player on the post most likely stops their 2nd goal.

    3) Aneke's header ok but the save was not a worldy. 50/50 that goes in.

Preston match report says we had 716 up there, an amazing turnout if true.

All been said but we done ok. Gave away two sloppy goals but overall a decent enough performance. Thought Lloyd Jones was again outstanding. Concentrate on the league now. Still think we will miss top six by three/four points but hopefully it’ll be fun trying.

We competed well against a Championship side. Was not much in it. Gifted them the first goal. Back pass from Alex Mitchell that was short. Equalizer was good. The pace on the wings from Small and TC was very good. Got back into the game at 1-1 after a nice move and we were bossing it. 2nd half, came out and looked sluggish and gifted them a goal from the corner. What happened in the dressing room at half time to warrant that? The goal woke us up and we got back into the game but couldn't get the goal.

Having watched Gassan for half a season now I can honestly say we've had our pants pulled down at the 1 million transfer fee. He is utter dog 💩. We need to send him out on loan as he is short on confidence and get someone else in IMHO.

I'm assuming, given we play Rochdale on Saturday, the team will be staying in and around Manchester rather than travelling all the way back to London to travel up again in a few days?

Same as Reading, happy with the performance, disappointed in the result.

Thought first half we were comfortably the better team, second half I'd say we edged it. Defensive errors from us cost us their 2 goals and their only 2 shots on target.

Small motm by a mile. Got the assist, worked his arse off the whole game, and always looked dangerous. It's a bloody shame he hasn't signed a contract, and it's not looking like he will. Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Preston think about going for him after how he played, and we know he doesn't mind moving about.

Looking forward to Rotherham now, big test, and hopefully we can bounce back.

When did we fall into the National League?

Small has some beyond outstanding moments and then some proper head scratching moments , feels like his shooting is a 1 in 10 job where he’ll bang a good one on target then we have to go through 9 flying everywhere .
His positive approach to the game is a joy to watch on occasions and him and TC give us a real push in the right direction with the crabbier players around them.
He also seems a good bloke too
  • Special mention to Gas who was excellent first half, looks a totally different player when receiving the ball to feet and having runners off him rather than just having aimless balls pumped up to him on his own 46 times a game.
