  • Preston match report says we had 716 up there, an amazing turnout if true.
This was a few mins before kick off. There weren't hordes on the concourse.

Didn't see the game and I know football is subjective for individual performances and a game of opinions but how does Tyreece Campbell get a 9 from one poster and a 4 from another!
Do fans/critics automatically add +2 or -2 to players they like or dislike or do they get players mixed up ?

Pleased that we played well overall against a lower mid table Championship side and having seen short highlights, it's really positive to see Small attacking down the right and crossing with his weaker right foot which led to Berry arrive in the box to finish off.
Also great to see him on the left side late on using his pace and going on the outside to put in a great cross.

Two goals conceded by the poor back pass and poor marking early in the 2nd half from a set piece.

I would take losing at Preston in Cup and winning at Rotherham 🤞🏻

It is a good point. It was pretty obvious last night that the midfield played well and there were three stand outs for us. Small, Campbell and Jones with small being the best. Not sure how Campbell can get a 4 for that performance but he does need to work on his final ball/shot and then he will be some player. When you see the final player marks tally, they will be the top three.

WTF is this commentator on? - He's done well, but he mentioned earlier than PNE had a Goal Kick when it was clear from the signalling that it was a corner.

Now he's just done the reverse saying we had a set piece, when it was a GK
Kept talking about Ashley Maynard-Brewer being in goal too
    Wish he had been
Why? Can't blame Mannion for the first and no chance with the second.
Whilst the majority of blame is with Mitchell Mannion is definitely partially at fault for that goal, he should be more committed to that challenge , he should have seen what was coming and gone in a lot harder imo
100% what a fuckin bottle job, he dangled his leg

He was always playing the ball first,  so to me he should have taken the lot there,  ball,  player and anyone else within ten yards and that would have cleaned up the potential problems which of course happened , a pussio challenge that he did was a partial cause to the goal

Interesting that a fan of Preston would like them to sign Small. He will be basing that on seeing his team play championship football since 2015.

I saw another one of their fans say they should be enquiring about all of our wingers.

Admittedly I was a nodding dog watching the first half in and out of consciousness but I’m not seeing what Ahadme brought to the game and also didn’t notice Docherty was playing first half .
Im sure all their good bits were while I was asleep or was it classy running around

I made a Lancashire Hotpot yesterday, jinxed it before we even started.
  • Didn't watch so no comment on the game save to say it sounds like a decent performance without the reward it deserved.

A little concerned (but not surprised) to hear about just how good Small and Jones played against a Championship team. With 6 months on contracts that will ramp up the interest from that level to sign them.

Can't see either being here next season unless we miraculously got promoted, will they still be here end of Jan?

Assuming we don't go up, we really need to find a way of keeping them as we won't get better and will risk going backwards next season with Leaburn a near certainty to go I would have thought.
  • Got back just before 4am so had plenty of time to reflect on the way back yesterday. Definitely more positives than negatives from yesterday, but overall a sense of frustration. Preston looked very average partly due to us, partly due to them. To give away the 2 goals we did was extremely dissapointing and they barely created anything outside of those gifts.

From our perspective it looked as if the inital pass down the line for the first goal had curled out of play. Whether it was or wasn't though the goal was hugely avoidable. Mitchell's backpass was shocking and Mannion's feeble effort to get to it/stop their player was almost as bad. Then the first couple of minutes of the second half including the marking for their second was very poor.

I thought we looked quite nervous at times at the back and were nearly caught in possession on several occasions. Small and Campbell, Small in particular were scaring the life out of them, and they doubled up on him a lot. Although from our side he also didn't get as much help, whilst Edwards and Campbell often had a 2 vs 2 on 1 side Small was quite often left with no help.

To come away feeling like we've been the better side against Championship opposition - and a couple of their fans I spoke to on the way back to the car also felt they'd been quite lucky, needs to kick us on. Hopefully we can use it and have a more consistent and better second half of the season.

This is gonna end 2-2 and pens...🤔.

Oh well, can't win 'em all...

But pens was the least we deserved last night, that bit is correct!!

TC signed a contract until 2026 plus an optional year last summer.

For the first time in my Charlton supporting life, I had no idea we had a game last night.  An indication of where I am in life or my interest in the club? Bit of both I suppose. Anyway, looking at the result cold this morning, it does not seem so disapointing. But a quick scan of this thread and the usual suspect rears it's ugly head... Why are we such a gift for average sides?  So sloppy.  Oh well there's always next year!

Decent game and decent performance mostly.  Small is a revelation at right wing (until he tries to shoot anyway)

Disappointing goals we conceded and we didn't create much in the second half but aside from that it was a decent run out.

In honesty I wasn't fussed with the tie because the league is the priority however it would have been nice to play Wycombe again as we know we can beat them and it could have led to a nice 5th round game and a bit of a money-spinner

On to the next one at the weekend which is much more important

You can bet your life AMB would have gone into that face first and stopped a goal.

Saw a tiny bit of the game swopping between different streams and ads, all 1st half until goal. Then highlights this morning.
I think we look Sooooooo much better than vs Crawley afew weeks ago, plus more  scoring chances than PNE.
But ultimately not quite tight enough at the back and not quite sharp enough at the front.
At least there's some attacking excitement from Small and Campbell to watch.

I agree, it was a good team performance but another anonymous game for Docherty.

I don't agree. I noticed him a fair bit doing what you need to do to win the midfield. Nothing spectacular but graft. I'd like to see his ground covered figures, I suspect they would be high. One of the standouts from yesterday was our pressing.

He’s so invisible, and not in a good way. We’ve had players who make a lot of mistakes and he doesn’t do that, but so often there’s not much to say he did well or badly. He seems to quietly get through games, does a bit of everything to an ok standard, but never stands out.

I know we have Berry as the more attacking midfielder, but Docherty has occasionally shown he’s got a good shot on him, both inside and outside the box. I’d like to see more of that, with a midfield 3 we should get a mixture of goals and assists across them, especially Berry and Docherty.

I agree he presses and covers ground, but that's the minimum we should expect from him. He needs to do a lot more in possession, especially in a game where we've had more of the ball. I said in the match thread that I noticed him frequently taking up these Gilbey-like positions where he couldn't possibly receive it.

Disappointing because he has been a bit better of late.

Think the result was a blessing in disguise really. Plenty of positives from the performance but can now fully focus on climbing the table. Plus Lloyd Jones won't score against us at The Valley for Wycombe!  :D

I know it has been mentioned already, but didn't Anderson look good in his brief cameo.
