Chuks (p.61 - Released)

Didn't tonight show that if Hylts is there to show Leaburn the dark arts then it hasn't worked and we should move him on and just get Aneke to do it.9
-
If Leaburn learnt the "dark arts" off Chuks, than just about every defence in our division would crap themselves when faced with them two playing together.10
-
The difference between him and Leaburn was night and day. Miles looking like he needs a rest the last two games.7

That's nothing against Leaburn, as he's our main goal threat, but the ball doesn't 'stick' with our other players like it does with Chuks, and he's great at bringing people into play after he's taken it down.
Might be the Charlton hill that I die on, but IMO he's one of our best players so I don't see why anyone would want to be rid of him as an option if the wage isn't coming out of your own pocket. As long as we don't rely on his fitness and have other first-team strikers available he adds a lot when he's on the pitch.
I agree with what Aneke offers, but his fitness is only likely to get worse. It’s easy to say give him another year after last night, but a lot harder to justify when he spends a couple of months out injured.4 -

No ill feeling to the guy, only the clowns agreeing to bringing him back.0 -

Dr Will Abbot is director of performance services including the medical department, which encompasses, nutrition, sports science and Psychology.
All 3 of the above are used for Chuks Aneke but unless we employ Jesus, the status quo won't change.
I don't believe Will Abbot can perform miracles.5 -

they are 2 totally different styles of strikers IMO4 -
Chuks isn’t even in our top 20 worst signings since 1976. He doesn’t play anywhere near enough games, but if you watch us play, it’s pretty clear how many points he has won us with his goals, assists and general presence over the years.
A colinesque post in terms of stupidity.15 -
I think it all depends on the Centre-Backs with our Striker options.
There have been games recently where Leaburn has terrorised Defences, and there have been games where Aneke hasn't looked at all effective - Reckon had Ricardo Santos been involved last night, he'd have managed Chuks better than the Defenders that Bolton had out there last night.
Recall him coming on as a sub when we drew 3-3 there last season, and he caused the same issues for them.
Both Miles and Chuks should be managed game by game though in terms of opponents2 -

I agree that they're different styles of player, but where I think Leaburn can absolutely improve is using his frame how Chuks does to retain the ball a bit better.
He's got dimensions that Chuks doesn't have in his mobility and instinctiveness, and even how he strikes the ball, but if he can improve his touch and hold up play he could be elite.1 -
If you include injury time within 4 days Chuks played 70+ mins and it didn't look like he had any injury issues at all. Every time he went down he was straight back up, no gingerly protecting his hamstring etc. Obviously I don't expect this to last but credit goes to Will Abbott, the physios and potentially a sports psychologist for what they've done so far. Keeping him fit is another question but if he can be around for a good chunk of the season for the last 30 mins of games then our play off chances increase a bit7
-
I did enjoy watching Chuks reaction at the end of the game - fists tightly clenched and screaming!
He obviously still cares. What an absolute shame he can't be relied on to stay fit.20 -

If we move him on we loose a coach as well as a player. So rather than he should be realised, we should be saying he should retire (from playing)* and stick to coaching.
*doesn't reflect my views in anyway since I find it useful that we have a coach that is on the playing books as well (and if it is a N.Jones man, well a football manager needs his own backroom staff).

Good to see him stepping in though and trying to look out for Small.4 -

And now I've got the giggles at the numerous replies to this tweet, asking if Chuks is a giant: https://x.com/CafcJake/status/1881819811669516719

I messaged my mate about the worst transfer since 76 comment and we’ve come up with a list of players that we deem worse signings than Chuks. Huge apologies in advance but it’s astounding how much guff we’ve signed in the last 20 years let alone 50. Please absolutely nobody quote this post.

That’s 125 players - might be a bit harsh including some of them, but we’ve definitely missed out on some filth that do deserve to be on the list so it balances out.0
-
Not quoting that for obvious reasons, but my god we have had some utter schite foisted upon us.
Incredible the crap we've contributed towards the wages of!1 -
I love Chuks so instead of the howl of protest one might expect, I'll say, yeah, none of these have had the positive impact he has. Ulvestad and Clarke would have been in good standing if we'd had them for longer. Of the guys I'd defend from CL brickbats while they were on staff, Inniss is the one I feel fondest for in retrospect, of course

Diawara is one of the best defenders to have played for us - not clear why he'd be listed. Took him a few games to adjust to the hoofball we were playing. Had a very impressive career in France.
The rest of the list is pretty stunning - shocking how few of them delivered.12 -

When you see that list of players we’ve signed in the last 10-15 years, it not a surprise we are, where we are, absolutely shocking, makes you wonder how much in wages, signing on fees, and transfer fees, that have been wasted, ( must be many millions, on abjectness) we’ve been a charity case, maybe other clubs have their own list of failed transfers.
