  • That’s several successive games now as our ‘super sub’.

Must be daunting for the opposition to see Miles go off but be replaced by Chuks.

    Long may it continue.
  • No chance. He played over 100 premier league games and has a load of caps for Senegal. He's like Roy Keane compared to some of the shit we've had since in league one.

Being shit in the PL is very different to being shit in the bottom half of league one.
It's all relative though isn't it. Sure, Amdy Faye was probably a 'better player' than, say, Matt Taylor, but one of those was a key part of our record breaking champion team and the other was a huge part of getting us relegated from the top level at the worst possible time for us, which we've never recovered from. Maybe Faye would have been very useful for us in L1 but we had him in the Premier League and you've got to assess players at the level they're at.

    Just throw in two oldies

    Barry Endean
Andy Jones ..saw us as a stepping stone to Anfield, but ended up being obscurity
I had hoped that I had managed to erase all memories of Barry Endean from my mind. Truly atrocious. Andy Jones was a Maradona type player by comparison!

Amdy Faye would have been dogshit in league one. He was absolute pony - definitely the worst player I've seen regularly in a Charlton shirt (with the possible exception of Llera, though even he had better games than Faye)
  • There's definitely some revisionist thinking going on about Amdy Faye. I'm sure he was voted "Player of the Month" in August. By Charlton fans...

There's nothing revisionist about it. He was absolute toss. A fraud of a footballer. Less use than Omar Pouso.

From memory he had a few half decent games when he filled in at centre back. He looked "alright" in those games, but that was largely in the context of his abject performances in centre midfield, the position we bought him for.

It's a bit like voting for Steve Brown as one of our greatest ever keepers.

Yes it is relative in terms of the player, but when judging 'the worst signing' (where this conversation began) you consider them for what they were signed to do. That is why most of the 06/07 signings (although technically better) would be considered some of the worst signings in the clubs history. Case and point: Hasselbaink was probably technically better than Chuks though in a Charlton shirt Chuks (.2 I might add) is the better signing.

Ok maybe it is time we  unearth this thread.

  • Any chance we can start a new thread for “The worst signings made” or something. I can see why rumours threads etc get derailed but I keep seeing unread posts and assuming Chuks has picked up a knock

Glad to see my opinion remains consistent, 13 years on 😂😂😂

  • I quite liked Gary Borrowdale

Hasselbaink rinsed us carrying his 42" waist around the pitch.

  • Would be poetic if he delivered a series of ten min cameos from now until the end of the season, chipping in with the odd goal to get us promoted via the play offs and then retires.
Would be fantastic for him and the club. Here’s hoping.

Would be poetic if the only goal he scores from now till the end of his contract is the winning goal in the play off final.
  • Maybe there's another definition of "poetic" that isn't in any dictionary, but I think it would be "poetic" if he plays every minute of every game between now and the end of the season and smashes in 25 goals to fire us to automatic promotion.
  • Looked great in a poor poor side.
Seems to be lacking now we've gone up the gears
  • Agree, he looks much slower now and unfortunately that’s only likely to get worse.

He might still grab the odd goal if we get a cross into him or the ball into his feet in and around the box, but I don’t think he’s having the impact outside the box that he used to have. It’s that impact that often led to him getting those chances.

If Jones still has some faith in Ahadme it’s not completely out of the question that he replaces Chuks on the bench, even if it’s not the plan beyond this season. You only have to look at TC and Gillesphey to see how much more players can offer with good coaching and management, and being part of a settled team.
