How many from the current crop would get into the 2019 playoff-winning side

If we're going off best XI, Edwards gets in over Purrington, and either of TC, Leaburn or Godden get in over Parker pretty comfortably. Difficult to say because of different systems but I'd also make a case for Jones over Sarr.

Coventry over Pratley13

One striker (preferably a fit Aneke) in for Parker...that's it.
Jones is pretty good but he's right-footed, whilst left-footed Sarr provided balance and could open the game up with superb cross-field balls or accurate passing out to and, crucially, in front of his left-back.
Hopefully in a few months time, I'll think differently. Ramsay has the potential to get in ahead of Dijksteel but he's got to show some consistency of fitness followed by form.2 -
Agree with the above, plus Small over Dijksteel0

Plus for me, Pratley's physicality & mentality was crucial.32 -
I agree with Edwards over Purrington for sure, and I think Leaburn or Godden could easily be in over Parker given the current form1
-
Ooo difficult one...
Phillips: Yeah definitely over Mannion or Maynard-Brewer
Dijksteel: I'd have Ramsay instead
Bauer: Again... cant drop him for obvious reasons
Sarr: Difficult one, as he had such a poor game, maybe Jones instead?
Purrington: Another difficult one as he scored... I prefer Edwards or Small, yet they wouldnt be there for the equaliser.
Bielik: Easy decision on that one
Cullen: Easy decision on that one
Pratley: He's still doing it now for Leyton Orient, his experience was vital
Aribo: Easy decision on that one
Parker: He offered so much more than goals, but I'd have Campbell in his current form, or Godden instead
Taylor: Easy decision... Sadly lol!
Substitutes
Pearce: Would he need to replace Jones as per the above? - But another Pratley type individual who helped so much
Williams: He changed the game in our favour, winning so many free-kicks8 -

If you included the whole campaign then obviously more of our current squad would get in ahead of Marshall, Reeves, Lapslie who themselves played around 20-games across the entire season.2 -
There were a few green shoots I observed last night that Coventry and Docherty are slowly becoming our Bielik and Cullen.
Just need to find an Aribo!3 -

We had a lot of good players in that playoff side. Pratley, Purrington and Parker are the only three I'd replace.
It's amazing that Pratley is still going. 40 in April so this may be his last season.1 -
Funny how people still dig Purrington out to this very day! Was a brilliant signing that season!12
-
Also need to remember we had ahearne grant for half that season1

Depends on the formation and does Karlan Grant count?
Until we sold Grant to Huddersfield, that was our best strike pairing with Taylor since we left the prem imo. I'd only say Yann and BWP might have been better.
Bauer and Lloydy best centre backs since we have left the Prem, I'd also include Lockyer and Morrison, but Lockyer was in the champ and Morro was a different season.
I'd say Ramsay replaces Solly (that version) or Dijksteel as a right back. I'd have Small or Edwards over Purrington.
Jones paired with Bauer over Pearce or Sarr.
Midfield pretty much picks itself, only debate is Coventry for Pratley, I'd have Coventry personally. I think he'd have really suited that diamond and offers a bit more than Pratley. Bit more composed and a step or two ahead. Not that I didn't like Pratley, just prefer Coventry. I can't forget Pratleys goal that kept us in the play-offs, but I also can't forget him chasing shadows. Haven't really seen that from Coventry yet.
I wouldn't have any of our current forward over the Lyle that played for us or Karlan Grant until January. If we are talking Parker, I'd have any of Godden, TC or Leaburn. I didn't rate Parker at all and think any decent striker could have done his job.1 -
It shows even after page 2 has been reached that our current team is a mere shadow of the 2019 team1

We just didn't replace adequately and the whole Lyle fiasco killed us.
We got promoted and somehow went from Lyle, Karlan and Vetokele, to Bonne, Davison and Hemed? Shocking.
Imagine had we kept that 3 of Bielik, Aribo and Cullen, and had Gallagher on loan. That would have been arguably a top6 midfield.
Found a proper striker partner for Lyle, kept Bauer and had him with Lockyer.
Instead this was the reality:
We done well to take it to the final day.

Just look at it ffs
We had a better team in league 1, our current team is genuinely better.2 - Sponsored links:

If the squad was
Phillips, AMB
Dijksteel, Bielik, Bauer, Sarr, Pearce, Purrington, Small, Ramsay, Edwards, Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey
Cullen, Aribo, Pratley, Coventry, Docherty, Berry, Williams
Taylor, Parker, TC, Leaburn, Godden
What starting XI and formation would we choose2 -

Phillips
Ramsay Bauer Jones Lockyer Small
Cullen Coventry
Aribo
Leaburn Taylor
I think that team would be competitive in the championship potentially.4 -
None of them. It was six years ago. They'd probably all be too young.1
-
We also had Jed Steer for the first part of that season who was a quality keeper2
-
What's easily forgotten is that squad was rated more highly as the season went on. Players like Bielik and Aribo became more consistent, Aribo also started to add more goals to his game. We're seeing signs of it with this squad, players like TC and Small are starting to change opinions.

I feel like there is some strong recency bias in this thread!0

If Small works on his finishing, he's going to be some player. I hope we get to witness it and not some other club.3 -

Anyone changing their minds about our current crop of players?
Can you make a case for Ramsay over Dijksteel, Jones over Bauer, Gillesphey over Sarr, Edwards over Purrington?
What about Coventry over Pratley? TC or Godden over Parker?
AMB over Phillips even?1
