How did Reuben Reid do? He's only 16/17, nice to get a decent run out and grab a goal.0
-
Lively and took his goal well. Looks a Kanu type.4

Great watch tonight again, have seen a number of u21 games at Dartford since retiring and would say it is a shame more people do not watch.
Guy from Aberdeen I met again tonight wondered whether our new loan signing Tom McIntyre is the son of Tommy who played some games for the Don's. Think more likely is the son of Jim, who joined Reading in summer '98 where our lad was born in November. Wikipedia does not help. Can anyone confirm.0 -
Isn't he American?0
-
Reuben Reid looks well grown already for his age. Eager to get involved, caused problems for Stockport up front, and took his goal well from an excellent Enslin through ball.
He is very young, not sure what his future development will look like. Sometimes players with promise, dare I mention Santos, Adigun, and at present Rylah, do not land at the destination they are aiming for.1 -
The future is bright. Last night was an excellent performance and the fact we were ever 2-0 down was ridiculous. We dominated possession throughout but didn't create too much in the opening period but after the break we absolutely asserted ourselves and ran them ragged.
I know for a fact there are also some yet to appear at this level who are superb prospects and we are turning down bids already before we can even sign them up. Our academy is definitely a real bright spot of this club and has been for a number of years now. Without it we would be just like any one of a number of other clubs.
I strongly urge people to go along and watch the U21's at Dartford - it's cheap as chips, half decent stadium but the performances are ALWAYS entertaining.
One more thing - Toby Bower probably has the best left foot I've seen at Charlton since Andy Reid. I mean it. When he got that free kick I was joking and saying Toby Bower is inevitable. There was no point in setting up a wall as he would "just put it right where the spiders go". And so he did24 -

Is it the front 3 of Reid, Tagoe and Sol-Loza that are the main prospects to keep an eye on with the U18s?2

I always think instantly of this fella when I hear of Reuben Reid in the Academy

I hope we sing: "There's only two Reuben Reid's" if he makes it as a Pro0 - Sponsored links:

On those stats, Sam Washington-Amoah is our top scorer with 7, so another one to keep an eye on.
Of course the stats don’t show who’s standing out away from the attacking players.1 -

Great to hear. I do need to go catch a game.
Out of interest though, under EPPP rules, how are we turning down bids before we sign them up?0 -

For regular U21 watchers - would Enslin be able to offer cover for TC/Small? Saw him play well in the BSM but still not 100% sure what his natural position is.0

He has pace and likes to run with the ball, but I’m not sure he’s as quick as they are, or going to be a threat to the level they are.
Deserves a chance at some point though, I’d rather than more variety on the bench than 2 CBs for example.3 -

Pace but not super fast, can pick a pass and score a goal. Not knocked off the ball easily and can win a free kick.1 -

I would like to see Enslin given some time off the bench in the Berry role.1

I doubt enselin will get any playing time of substance this year. Excellent passer/crosser and very good skill on the ball. Similar to Dixon he is pretty lightweight but without Dixons pace. I would have concerns how he would handle the defensive side of being a wingback and is not really a forward - more of a traditional winger which we all know doesn’t exist at Charlton. Best let him develop in the u21s this year and then jones can get a good look at him and Dixon in the preseason.0

It's too late to loan him to league 1 or 2. That maybe because no one at that level wanted him or we didn't want to let him go out on a loan where he couldn't be recalled.
That leaves a national league loan.
A lower level but where the football is no longer part-time or agricultural so he could get used to more competitive football where results matter but can be recalled if and when we need him.
He'll be 20 in October so the time for a loan or inclusion in the first team must be close.
He'd be a big miss for the U21s however.2 -

I wouldn’t call Enslin lightweight, he looks one of the more physically ready u21s to me, and his versatility will only help him get more opportunities. He could be a more mobile Johnnie Jackson for us, he has a bit of everything to his game without being outstanding in one area.
The “streamlining” of the squad only makes it clearer the 888 plan is still in place, hopefully we can get the best out of our academy prospects and really develop them properly. RD wanted a similar approach but I never felt the support was in place with a good manager, coaching team, senior players etc, instead they were thrown in and we had to hope they handled it.

Two absolute legends of the club, being compared, unfavourably, to untried Academy players...
I'm a huge fan or our academy, but some of you need to get your lumps felt!1 -

On Enslin, I only meant in style, perhaps I could have made it clearer I don’t mean we should throw him in and expect him to instantly be a key player for us.1 -
🔢 Here’s how our U21s line-up in this morning’s friendly fixture against Sparta Rotterdam U21s: MacLorg; Hobden, Hunter, Laqeretabua; Fullah, Kedwell, Mwamba, Wales, Bower; Casey, Huke
— Charlton Athletic Academy (@CharltonAcademy) February 11, 2025
Subs: Sadler, Toure, Gough, Valentine, Dawkins, Belton, Safa#cafc0 -
Well, that came out of the blue.
We played the Dutch National XI at Sparta's ground in 1931.
No Dixon or Enslin so assume they are with the first team squad.4
