Is Ahadme still injured from TC standing in his foot or is he just dropped from the squad?

Travelled with the team to Blackpool so I'd assume dropped

To think we sold May for Ahadme and Godden. While Godden is okay he’s no Alfie and Gas is probably the worst bit of recruitment we’ve done for while.
Godden currently has a better goals per min ratio (149 mins) than Alfie May has managed across his time at Birmingham (157), Charlton (151) and Cheltenham (168, 154).

You have told us many times we are better this year than last - when Alfie was stuck out wide and also we didn't win a game for bloody ages

Imagine how well Alfie would do in this much better side!  :-)

Also, Birmingham, top of the league and miles ahead of us decided to buy Alfie May NOT Matty Godden when both were available to buy.

That's the only judgement that matters

It's been stated multiple times by the SMT that one of the reasons was to  redeploy the funds raised on other players.

What number is Ahadme? (or does he not appears as net neutral scoring)

Because they were not prepared to dip into their pockets.

The 'if Alfie was always played as a striker he'd be way better' myth kills me. Alfie's best scoring run for us came when he was mostly playing out wide or behind the striker. He scored 11 goals across 10 games in one run. In that period he was played at CF twice, RW three times and as an AM five times. AM - 6 goals, RW - 4 goals, CF - 1 goal. He actually went through his worst patch that season as a CF for us - 1 goal in 13 games with three games at RW and ten at CF.

Alfie is very good, you can play him more or less anywhere and he'll score and I think that versatility makes him more attractive to most buying teams than Godden. We played Godden at the tip of the diamond a couple of times but really he's a hard-working poacher and not a great deal else. That's good for us as Jones tends to favour fairly strict roles and Godden fits in well to that, but he wouldn't get as much game time at Birmingham on the occasions they want to play Stansfield or Dykes as the CF as you wouldn't want to put him out wide really. I don't think it's worth wondering how Alfie would do in this squad as there was a clear personality clash between him and Jones and they both probably would have sulked their way through the season to no great effect. I wish that wasn't the case but here we are.

I wish we'd let this thread die. It just makes me miss Alfie May and think about how good we could be if he was still here.

I understand I've just contributed to keeping this thread alive by posting this post. Miss you Alf

It's hard to make a direct comparison between May and Godden's stats, as May is surrounded by better players, and is in a team which has been winning regularly. Stansfield and Dykes are both Championship level strikers, they will attract a lot of defenders to them, creating space for May.

He barely scored as a right winger, it was a terrible idea. I think Pompey away might have been the only time it worked well. He scored most of his goals in the 10

Confusion might be Wigan away where he started on the right wing, but Camara was injured early and May moved central and scored twice

I think the reason he won’t be getting a game any time soon is because he needs to build up his strength at keeping the ball. Tyreece used to be knocked off the ball very easily, bullied off it even, and this is the same thing that is happening to Gassan. I would imagine if he took the same lesson as Tyreece at becoming a much stronger fighter and keeper of the ball his game improves immeasurably. To be on that pitch right now he needs to be stronger quicker and sharper. Even godden is a better header of the ball than Gassan. It’s why Leaburn will find it hard to match Godden at winning the ball and keeping it.

TC is 21, while Gassan is 24, an age where you'd expect him to be more of a finished article, both technically and physically.

Unfortunately I doubt very much that it’s going to work out here for him. He has never (even in glimpses) looked like a professional footballer since he arrived. If there is anything there he isn’t going to get first team minutes unless we have a really horrible run of injuries to show anything. Either play him in the U21 team or move him on

Probably tried and not enough interest, probably in part due to salary.

While Gassan has certainly been disappointing, to put it mildly, a few months or even weeks ago most of the squad were being slated or written off.

Godden wasn't starting, Doc had been dropped, Campbell was never a forward, etc.

Ahadme doesn't merit a bench place let alone to start right now but we've seen players start poorly and then improve before.

Jones believes in him and Gas might do better in what is now a much more balanced and confident side.
I hope you’re right, but the difference is you could see glimpses of ability in their general play, whereas Ahadme genuinely looks he’s won a competition to be here.

Does he? He can't even get on the bench at the moment.

He has shown flashes, especially in the cup and he did well for Cambridge.

Jones spoke very positively about him on the CharltonTV meet the Directors show last months. Said his best was yet to come.

Ahadme needs to build up some strength and also wear the correct studs when playing. There have been games where he's spent more time slipping than on his feet, at key moments.

Down to him now to show how hungry he is to fit into a template.

If we were drifting around in mid table then yes that would be right. But we need points and wins, Aneke is a lot better than Ahadme

Let's drop Small too as he might not be here next year. Nonsense as usual.

Not sure it's entirely nonsense, Aneke when he comes on isn't able to press like other forwards and that can sometimes change the favour of the game against us.
