Our local was the Shalamar in Brick Lane, a wonderful Bangladeshi cafe. I'd hate to go back now 20 odd years later and see how the place has been commercialised in the ensuing years, there were already more "formulaic" eateries opening up then.0

The only restaurant I remember most in Tooting is that massive Chicken Cottage. I've seen some Sainsburys locals smaller than it.0
