  • Smalls quick enough and he's got a good engine but I don't think he has lightening pace.
  • Spoken to him a few times and all he says is he just wants to get promoted and absolutely loves it here

Saturday proved he is not where he needs to be just yet. That being said, his agent won’t be saying the same thing.

Saturday could be helpful in persuading him that this is the best place for him. He has moved around more than most for his young age and he could easily move to the wrong place at an important stage in his career. What he should be looking for is a contract with a buy out clause. If clubs have to pay good money for you they are more likely to start you and invest time and patience in you. If they get you for free they are having a punt and there may be a lot more steps in the ladder for you.

Someone try sneaking a new contract in there

If any of you mum's and dad's are off this week for half term get along to the valley with your under 13's to have a quick picture with Thierry and Josh and in the few seconds you get give them plenty of praise as too often in recent years some Charlton critics are more known for giving abuse to players.

Two success stories and I wonder who was behind their Signings!

Back in 2003/04 I took my 10 year old son to get a picture with Paolo di Canio on a Monday after we had drawn 1-1 with Arsenal at the Valley; blimey O'Riley that seems a lifetime away now 🤦🏻‍♂️

We were in the long Queue and I thought I will have 10 seconds at most to ask a question 🤔
So I went with: "Paolo, when you stepped up to take the penalty on Saturday when did you decide where the spot kick was going"

"When I look deep into the Keeper's eyes and i have them under my spell" !

He sent me the wrong way as well as we walked out of the entrance and not the exit !

We only saw di Canio towards the Autumn of his career but a strong character and flair footballer who demanded every player trained as hard as he did.

Must have been in there, the same time as you Sam, with my 2 young lads.

I can remember someone phoning a friend (sounds like who wants to be a millionaire) and passing their mobile over to him, to have a chat in Italian.

  • So I've been wanting to right this for a long time. I love theirry the personality, I think he has so much talent, is rapid and seems like a great kid...but there is a reason he is with us and not playing higher. He has tons of talent but sometimes it's like he doesn't have a brain. I told anyone that would listen how much CBT was overrated and lazy. Now I'm not saying Small and CBT are the same but what I will say is the ability, speed and lack of footballing IQ are very similar. The biggest difference to me is personality and also Small can defend, whereas CBT had no interest in doing so. Kid can go as high as he wants, it will all come down to how much he wants to learn, listen and grow his football IQ. Personally I think Curtis and Jones are perfect for him in both respects, and I truly hope he realises that.
  • Can Jones also tell him to sign his blooming contract? Please.
  • The streak of right-footed goals continues. When Thierry scores with his left we're on the pitch
  • Since Nathan realized that Thierry is paramount to this side and he can play on the right will Ramsey having his back and with TC and Edwards doing damage left field we are the polar opposite team we were earlier in the season when we played so narrow.
The Elephant in the room is the X factor player Small will be on everyone's radar now🤷🏻‍♂️
We have taken two steps forward with young 20 year olds Theirry and TC as well as the one who went under the big teams radar, Ramsey.
The great fear is we takes 3 steps back at the end of the season if money talks and ambitions can't be fulfilled at CAFC 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • Small will definitely have Championship interest and I think will sign with us if we go up. If we don't I suspect he will leave.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Preston if he leaves us

Would be a huge touch of irony, seeing our last Defender to run out his Contract in a year where we reached the Play-Offs, ended up there as well.
  • Small ranks highly in the following categories:

    - dribbling
    - crossing
    - tackling

Everything else, stats wise is still fairly below par. But he’s young and thriving in an environment where he’s learning a lot and will only continue to get better as an all around player. I just hope he doesn’t regret moving too soon.
  • A 60% chance he will stay if we go up. A 5% chance he will stay if we don't.

Where are the crossing stats? I’ve used Fotmob but couldn’t see crossing on there.

    On Fotmob app, under passing.

1.15 successful crosses per 90 mins, in the 91st percentile. 21.1% cross accuracy (56th percentile, slightly above league average).

So perhaps the accuracy could do with a bit of work but combining the number of successful crosses he has with the slightly above average accuracy, suggests he has the physical attributes to be getting into crossing positions a lot.

I think there are 5 or 6 players we risk losing if we don't get promoted.
  • what is it?

The difference is that everyone else is under contract, whereas Small can choose to become a free agent.
  • At least we would get compensation as u24 and has had a contract.  England U20 caps and lots of assists means that maybe worth having although clearly wouldn't be anywhere near as much as a transfer fee.
