  • "A belter of a pitch" according to Atherton, Ward and Finch.

Doesn't sound like an Indian pitch where England struggled against the sublime Indian spinners.

Without their big 3 pace bowlers Can Zampa find the form he had when he had the better of Buttler and Root?

I believe it's a 50/50 match but England will need to set a big total as the Aussie's have some destructive batsmen, as do England if they can find their best.

Archer, Wood and Carse may relish this pitch if it's a belter of a pitch.

I prefer to watch 50 overs cricket to the manic 20 over game.

England  V Australia is the ultimate cricket contest.
  • A low, slow road judging by the first over. Just what we ordered.
  • Oh my word - Carey, the keeper fielding at mid-on, has dived and mid-air caught Salt one handed
  • What a catch

Cracking one handed leaping catch by Carey(not keeping today) to get rid of Salt who had started well.
Similar to Phillips catch for NZ.

32/1 after 4 and Smith has got in early to build a good score 🤞🏻

Johnson getting a chance for the Aussie's because of the regulars not here and most of us first saw him in the 100's when he took 3 for 1 in the 20 balls he bowled.

Smith chips one to Carey in exactly the same spot. We cannot afford to give cheap wickets away like that. Scoring at 8 an over is great but not if you aren't going to use all your overs up.
  • 43/2 as Smith finds the fielder after he had started well. 🤦🏻‍♂️
  • Root is 19 off 19 and hasn't hit a single ball in the air.

73/2 after 10 and the power play.

    This outfield is like lightning.

Have i missed something? We are now 87/2.

If a wide is given, down the leg side, but the keeper appeals and, on review, it turns out the ball flicked a trouser leg...

1, Is the wide overturned? (I assume it is)

2, does the fielding team retain the review? (I assume not)
  • 126/2  after 18 overs and Duckett reaches his 50 at a run a ball and controlled so far.
  • 104 partnership between Duckett and Root at a tad under a run a ball.
  • Half way at 25 overs:

    Duckett 73 Root 54

    166/2
  • 350 has to be the target now with 8 wickets in hand.
  • It's almost as if it's suddenly registered how to construct a 50 over innings. Still have to execute that plan which we have, to date, been doing.
  • Gonna call it early. We will be 40 runs short of a good score

    Anyone know?
  • Australia will really struggle in all formats when their fast bowling trio, Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood retire, their replacements so far look well below standard

    About 40 more….

no idea, just waiting for the inevitable collapse that leaves us on 320 rather than 360 or similar

    or we get 420

I think England have been playing with us. Last 6 months has just been a joke to see who can hit it the hardest / furthest. They were always going to play "properly" once an important tournament appeared.

380 bare minimum from here. It used to be said look at the score at 30 overs & double it - esp with wickets in hand.

Should be looking at 400 +
  • 30 overs gone:
    Duckett 92 Root 68

200/2 The 20 overs match can start now !
  • Excellent over by Zampa, the best so far and he gets Root LBW 68. Just 1 off the over.

    201/3
  • Could be disastrous. Could be a blessing in disguise.

  • Professional umpires love giving out on the sweep.
  • Excellent 100 by Ben Duckett in 95 balls.
