Subbed on in the 71st minute, they’re losing 2-1 at home to Hearts.

Lost 2-1. Didn’t watch but stats look like Mitchell did ok in his cameo. 84% pass accuracy and won 83% of his ground duels

He came on after the goals were scored according to the BBC sight.

I watched the last 10 or so mins. He did ok, not really much to do as Hearts for the most part just held their lead.
  • Playing out of position at RB he always offered himself in advanced areas. He was rarely found, which is why Saints are going down.

Yeah bit of shame to not see him at CB

CB is one of those positions where young players can struggle to get game time, as you do rely on strength and craftiness, which tend to come with age and experience. Especially in a poor side, where you are having to defend a lot.

It's easier to play at full back, where you have can also express yourself more going forward too.

Colchester when they were struggling in League 2 and now St Johnstone and they are bottom.

Someone at CAFC must think these loans are good for Zach.

He was a regular for Colchester in the first half of that season under Garner to be fair.

Or he/his agent were really pushing for game time and they were the only suitors

A shame he couldn't have got a mid table L2 loan. A club with aspirations of the playoffs, but who realistically will finish 10th to 15th, to give the right balance of pressure.
  • Starting for St Johnstone tonight.

He’s playing well so far.  Playing at the heart of defence instead of wing back

Just made a fantastic clearance and got smashed by the striker but he’s ok.

I suspect that Zach was sent to Scotland to toughen him up. The 5' 4'' left wingers tend to be hard enough let alone your Duncan Ferguson/Joe Jordan types that play up top.

He just did brilliantly in a 1v1 defensive tussle, played a lovely one-two with the winger and then fed another player who crossed only for the keeper to make a brilliant save from a diving header.

Would have been a fabulous goal

goalless at the break but I’m loving watching Zach marshalling the defence so well and barking instructions

Half time a clean sheet draw, though from the stats St Johnstone have dominated.

Bit more even in The second half but StJ really should be winning this one

Completed the most passes and won the most duels during the game. Fair play to him.

A quick Twitter search for his name brings up some very complimentary assessments from St Johnstone fans…

Though Mitchell was excellent tonight in that centre position

it was honestly like watching him play for our under 21s at times. Take a touch and surge past the onrushing striker, good tackling, great positional sense, good leadership.  And I’m glad the fans saw that and appreciated it too.

their defence hasn’t been great this year apparently  but Zach stepped in to the middle of it and did well.

i know there were several saying the loan was a waste of time but he’s likely to play one of the old form and it will be interesting to see how he copes with that cauldron.

That was because he wasn’t starting, definitely worth it if he gets plenty of game time.
