The Football Association wants the three-match ban given to Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts for a dangerous challenge on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to be extended.
The FA said the standard three-game ban for serious foul play is "clearly insufficient" and has submitted a claim to a regulatory commission to increase it.

If the player never turned his face away from the high kick the injury would have been much worse than 25 stitches in his ear, it could have maimed him for life.
Definitely deserves more than a 3 game ban.7 -

Lovely to see that the wider world football fanbase sees that club for what they are

“Millwall have to do this stuff or no one would give a shit about them”
“I used to think their gimmick was a bit funny but no, Millwall are actual scum”
“Some strange fans at Millwall”
“You can always tell a Millwall fan by the amount of crayons they bring for lunch”3 -

There's no malice in it. Roberts's eyes were on the ball the whole time.
Unpopular opinion: it's not even violent conduct, it's just really crap judgement. He's stupid, not evil or a cheat
TC getting flyhacked from behind was a far worse offense in so much as it was premeditated foul play - TC not getting seriously injured was dumb luck - but there's no follow up, no tabloid frenzy outcry despite the unashamed intent of the perpetrator to cheat.
The brouhaha is fuelled chiefly by the damage that resulted and how painful we imagine it is having your ear gashed open and then stitched back together.
There's no surprise the FA is making a big fuss about this, cos it's tabloid fodder.
Mentioning the conduct of the scumbags in the crowd in the same breath as Roberts is just dimwitted. The goalie ain't responsible for the bullshit spouted by the morons in the stands.
Has anybody asked JP Mateta for his view?4 -
Posting without reading a lot of this but two things
1. Where was the outrage for this
https://www.sportbible.com/football/charlie-cresswell-millwall-hull-city-injury-202211062. Why the fuck was the palace chairman interviewed at half time on the bbc to discuss this? I think that’s help contribute to the outrage4 -

Should deduct them 44 points, immediately2 -
It was an awful challenge with an awful outcome (26 stitches and admission to hospital) although it could have been worse. I am sure he didn't mean to do that damage but players need to know they have a responsibilty for the safety to other players and the best way to get that home to them is a longer ban. It needs to be long enough for them to think twice before going into a challenge like that.1

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c20demjn072oNow the fans can also give a round of applause in the sixth minute to show support.4 -
Probably a fair amount. I agree there wasn't any malice in the tackle, but it's still dangerous play. You can't be kicking the ball at head height with your studs out.0

There's a reason "No one likes em", and "they don't care"... cnuts0

Think we need to recognise that this incident is nothing to do with Millwall or their general reputation as a club. This could have been any goalkeeper at any club. That’s not to say that Roberts doesn’t deserve his six match ban. He does. What he did was completely reckless and could have very seriously injured the player. He was completely out of control in the challenge. As for the fans and their sixth minute applause, well that’s just Millwall fans being Millwall fans. Unpleasant and lacking in any class.0

Fair enough, but why did it take nearly a week to produce this?0

Seems harsh to me, sets a dangerous precedent and also adds to the notion that the games gone soft n all that, so may I be the first to say:

3 game ban or 6 game ban won't make any difference to Millwall as he is there number 20

Sorry but just had to post this:
Millwall fan boasting about the Valley (apparently low) attendances when they can barely get 15,000 through the door. Must admit there is a lot of Charltonspotting going on from them this year 😅1 -
I think nearly all of millwall fan's boasts have started to unravel - less than 10k millwall bums on seats i'd suggest on wednesday with coventry probably having £3k? there - agent Gallen is doing a marvellous job - the only player who i'd contemplate taking if offered would be the winger who Ramsey tackled to get sent off - they seem to rate Crama who i thought was awful against us - doughty may make a difference if he ever gets fit but atm i see a very poor team and can see West Brom turning them over this weekend - shame millewall fan has reverted to type and disappeared when things turn to shite2

What gate incident? Coventry at home midweek should have been stress free.
