MATCH THREAD : Stockport County V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 8th March 2025 : KO 12:30

Hi everyone...
Today we have a rather long trek up to Edgeley Park for the third in the trilogy of 6 pointers against yet another promotion contender Stockport County, who currently sit one place and two points above us in 4th position, having played one game more than us.
Stockport will no doubt prove tricky opposition, last Tuesday whilst we were putting Barnsley to the sword, they were seemingly struggling to get a point up at Northampton, not helped by our own TT getting a goal for his loan side, so well done there.
Regarding squad issues, the only absentee today should be AMB, with Nathan also confirming that Tyreece Campbell's late substitution on Tuesday was due to fatigue and cramping, so full squad again it seems.

We've locked horns on 11 previous occasions, winning six, the Hatters three and the remaining two encounters resulting in draws, Rarmani Edmonds-Green netted a 66th-minute equaliser in the reverse fixture in October 2024 to cancel out Louie Barry's early spot-kick.

The Addicks will be wearing their yellow away kit in Greater Manchester.

Here we go then...

Team news...

Miles Leaburn returns to the Charlton starting line-up for this afternoon’s game against Stockport County...

The 21-year-old striker replaces Matty Godden, who moves to the bench as Nathan Jones makes one change to the team that beat Barnsley in midweek.

Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Tuesday’s match-winner Macaulay Gillesphey start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.

Thierry Small, making his 50th appearance for the club, and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty making up a midfield three.

Leaburn is partnered up front by fellow Charlton academy graduate Tyreece Campbell.

Godden is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Tom McIntyre, Tennai Watson, Karoy Anderson, Alex Gilbert and Chuks Aneke.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Leaburn, Campbell

Subs: Reid, McIntyre, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Godden, Aneke

    Good news.
  • Hope this doesn't mean long ball tactics, Godden will be good as a late addition hopefully when speed is required up top...
  • Interesting change of line up to see Godden dropped after the last two performances where he hasn't really done much wrong... Hasn't scored but been a bit of a water carrier instead.

Hope this means that Jones has spotted a weakness when analysing Stockport
Or a bit of intel from our man at the Northampton v Stockport game the other night ?
  • Can't see that it will mean long ball tactics as I think Godden is stronger in the air than Miles. Hopefully Miles will be keen and hungry to do well and keep his place. COYRs

Yeah, could also be that Leaburn has had a stormer in training, or just that Godden hasn't been pulling up any trees lately and it's good to keep the squad competitive. I'm sure Miles will be determined to take his chance and keep his place.
  • No doubt TT has given Nathen the low down on them...
  • Have Stockport sold out the home areas?
  • Very different Stockport team starting today, compared to the one that faced us at the Valley; those starting today in red, also appeared at the Valley in our 1-1 game, those in blue came off the bench

  • Gilbert must be wondering what he has to do to get a starting berth...🤷‍♂️
  • No doubt TT has given Nathen the low down on them...
    Why Terrell Thomas?
  • Have Stockport sold out the home areas?
    As always

They sell out every game? Fair play if so.
  • Leaburn or Godden, I still feel like we are good enough to beat them. However I see a score draw on the cards. COYA

Yeah she's getting there mate... Still finds it easier to walk around in the protective boot, and isn't convinced by the new diagnosis that its just swollen, rather than broken, as finds it painful to walk without it... Still plans on going back to work on Monday 🙄

She didn't make the subs bench, another week I reckon.
  • Interested to see Stockport’s centre backs today. Both young (22 & 20), both highly rated.
