  • BIG news must be 7' 1" signing
  • Just to be different... I know fu*k all...

    ...or am I only kidding...🧐
  • You just know it’s cos the owners have refused an increase to the budget when we go up and he’s getting out before the shit hits the fan
  • Good riddance. Another cost saving.
  • BIG news must be 7' 1" signing
Or Peter "fatty" Garland is heading up a cashed up consortium!

I know a lot of dislike for Charlie on here, personally I think he has done a good job! And club is much better place then previously, in terms on the pitch, and off the pitch with the partnerships, commercials and making the valley a better fan experience.
I am also in the same place as dubai, for all the shit and the way the netflix doc represented CM, there not exactly in a bad place now are they. We can all try and discredit what he did there, but we didn't see the day to day running, let's remember most disgruntled employees are disgruntled as they don't like change, change was massively required there when he went in, same can be said of us. I know in particularly people, NLA in particular who was thrown under the bus by some, who said CM was absolutely brilliant throughout his own Saga. Thank and goodbye, no hard feelings from me
I actually agree with this tbh. Always thought he talked a lot of sense on camera. Never met the guy, but not going to slag him off cause of Sunderland or the fact he's posh! The club as a whole is definitely in a better place now, although how much that is to do with Charlie can be debated I guess. Good luck to him.
  • A nice leaving present would be a half & half scarf for those cold evenings in the Caribbean.
Yeah, maybe Sunderland and Oxford would be good...🙄

  • I can't give too much away but there will be some BIG news coming soon in regards to the club
Are our latest American owners going to have a massive strop, and claim we've not said thank you for buying us when they did?
Well, we don't have any cards

reams on other forum saying new very rich Americans investors had bid turned down couple months ago and are still interested to buy cafc
Well, we are the most underforming club in London with a huge potential catchment area in south east London and Kent. Also now with a chance of promotion to the Premier League waiting room. Given how owning a league club has become a big thing in Hollywood, it would not be a huge surprise if somebody very wealthy saw this as an opportune moment to buy us.

I can't deny we're underperforming but i'd argue that for the size of the clubs, the money they spend on transfers and the money they charge their fans to watch that Spurs (1 league cup in 35 years) and Arsenal (21 years without a league title) are underperforming more.
  • Wasn't Methven's plan always to sweat a distressed asset, tinker with some quick fixes, a lick of paint, and then flip his investment (I am trying to sound like i am 'casually City' - a sort of high finance geezer)

I absolutely hate posts like this. How about when you've got something to say, then post it?
Totally agree - I know something you don’t know (allegedly) ……

    Bollox isn’t it

Good. I find some of the comments on here hilarious, with people desperate to believe whatever nonsense the club puts out, but never mind.
What’s your view on the reaso?
I don’t rate him and I don’t trust him, but I think the length of his tenure as chief exec tells you all you need to know. I also heard the club had approached someone else to take his job in recent months.
    And?

Don't leave us hanging like that.

    Did you accept?

Imagine thinking that any brand-new ownership / senior management team / football manager (basically, whoever we’re pointing the collective finger at this week) coming in to a club that's verging on the brink of extinction, should get everything 100% on point from day one — or they might as well all fuck off.

All we want is good ownership. NO NOT THAT OWNeRShip lol

    Just £3.50 in the shop

  • So, in a nutshell.......

He's not leaving NOW but in MAY. And he's not leaving in disgrace but taking up a post at a club run by one of our footballing partners.

All a bit meh and a non story. Seems more of a sideways move than anything else.
Promoted out of the way sideways to a lesser department.
  • The bloke said from day 1 that he wasn’t a CEO and it wasn’t a long term thing. He seems to be leaving to take up a role in Jamaica good luck to the bloke I don’t see what all the stick he gets is for from what I can see we have had worse senior management

    Predictable
Don’t worry. There’s bound to be someone new for you to boost on here soon.
I hardly boost him.  I gave him a really hard time when he first got here but he proved he had a plan and has largely executed it.  Surely even you can see that we are in a better position than we have been for a while.

And similarly ,I'm sure his replacement will be treated with contempt by you because you fucking hate it when this club does anything right.
    Do me a favour!
When things were going pear shaped on the pitch, Methven was lightening quick to point out that his remit had nothing to do with the football side of things and all our woes were down to the 'football people' I think was his coined phrase.
The only reason we've seen any sort of upturn in this football club in recent months is because the 'football people' have finally got their act together. And by his own admission, that clearly had NOTHING to do with him.
He's just another one of footballs great chancers.Always will be.

So why, if he didn't have anything to do with the footballing side of the club, is the lowest finish in 98 years used as something to lord over him with, and held over his head as a failing?

You can't have it both ways
As the SMT’s power and influence waned and rumours of their demise gained traction, only then did the footballing form improve. We’ve only been in form for 3 months, the rest of their tenure has been mid table at best. I believe there was a power struggle between Scott and Jones, which Scott lost. I believe Ahadme was one of Scott’s Ipswich disaster signings, that’s why he’s crap, that’s why he now can’t get into the match squad, that’s why Scott is signing on. Good riddance!

CAST giving a bit more info in this article- https://www.castrust.org/2025/03/charlie-methven-departs/
    2 questions occur:

    1. If planned why tell us now and not before?

    2. Has he been bought out of his ownership or something else?
  • Good news, that's 2 down and 1 to go.

Charlie Methven is the type of bloke to shag your wife and when you find out your wife has had an affair, he says he will help you hunt down the other man.

Amazed how many people don't see through his bullshit but that's the power of being well spoken and well mannered I suppose. A true actor.

None of this season can be credited to him, the matchday experience is only better because the results are more enjoyable, which is what it has always been about. That credit goes to the manager, the players and the coaches, not suits and ties who navigated us to one of the most embarrassing seasons in our history.

Fair play to him leaving with any credit as he's completely lucked out this season, as we all saw what they were truly capable of last season.

Exciting times with the rumours of even bigger investors.
Well they paid 12 mill for the name & staff & debts, they're paying the running costs of course but they've hardly pushed the boat out in terms of signings. All of this smaller squad nonsense, is it really Jones preference ? Campbell has been run into the ground because there is no replacement, Leaburn looks a shadow of the player that we were concerned maybe lured away in the transfer window, Chucks is a busted flush, Gas was never good enough before we even signed him, Kanu seems to have regressed. Godden seems to be our best striker but wasn't considered for the Stockport game & hasn't scored for 3/4 games before that. Signing a couple of decent starters in January could have made all of the difference to our season. As it stands we still have a good chance of making the play offs but with Small & Campbell not showing on Saturday we created very little, hopefully it was a one off & we can get back to scoring ways at Crawley.

So you're directly attributing the "demise of the SMT" to the upturn in footballing form?

Yeah but in the Football Club Ownership for Dummies handbook, page 1, paragraph 1, it says: do not hire Appleton and do not have the worst season for 100 years. That is a spectacularly bad start, and we’ve had a few.
