Imagine thinking that any brand-new ownership / senior management team / football manager (basically, whoever we’re pointing the collective finger at this week) coming in to a club that's verging on the brink of extinction, should get everything 100% on point from day one — or they might as well all fuck off.

    Absurd.🤨
  • Good news, that's 2 down and 1 to go.

Charlie Methven is the type of bloke to shag your wife and when you find out your wife has had an affair, he says he will help you hunt down the other man.

Amazed how many people don't see through his bullshit but that's the power of being well spoken and well mannered I suppose. A true actor.

None of this season can be credited to him, the matchday experience is only better because the results are more enjoyable, which is what it has always been about. That credit goes to the manager, the players and the coaches, not suits and ties who navigated us to one of the most embarrassing seasons in our history.

Fair play to him leaving with any credit as he's completely lucked out this season, as we all saw what they were truly capable of last season.

Exciting times with the rumours of even bigger investors.
No wonder you dont like him
  • Of course it isn't Nathan Jones preference, but Jones is a smart man who doesn't want to offend his employers, like the vast majority of people.

There's no manager who would rather a smaller squad with less quality options, that would be ridiculous. He's said all that to galvanise what he's got.

It's why the rumours of new richer investors is exciting news. We have the nucleus of a good team and a manager that is working here now. Sky is the limit with a lot of cash to play with. The lack of spend may arguably cost us promotion this season still.

Defensively we are excellent, arguably the best in the league now, but attacking wise, Stockport showed how to stop us. I know people will mention the scoring stats, but there's been some fortunate goals among them, we don't slice and dice teams, we work hard and get a rub of the green. Hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the season 👍🏻

I just love your terminology there mate "slice and dice teams", I must use it more in conversation...🙄

have we any idea who in the consortium is now driving things and what their plans/intentions might be?
The big question is will they be willing to pay over the odds for the properties?
  • "Charlie Methven will also no longer be an owner."

I wish that rather than just repeating what the club have told them CAST would dig deeper.

WHY is no longrr an owner?

WHY if CM did a good job is this change a good thing?
Do you really expect the club to answer this!?

I’d imagine CAST did indeed dig, but can’t put the information out there for whatever reason.

The Club said that Bigger players swallowed the ACA %’s, presume CM will have needed some liquidity to fund his move to Jamaica/The U.S. also sold shares. Isn’t much need for him to keep such small stake if he’s no longer involved nor likely to be paid dividends anytime soon!

  • Methven's departure makes no difference to matters on the pitch.

I wonder though how it impacts on major off field contracts. I assume our kit supplier deal has been signed a while ago, but what about the shirt sponsor?

  • If there is one thing I can say (and there is a tonne I obviously can't), it's that we are still slap bang in the middle of a promotion race which we can all agree is a great thing.

Big game tomorrow at Crawley. Let's get behind the lads. 3 points and that league table will be looking very healthy come 9:45pm.
  • Interesting CM talked of revenues increasing by 30% but stayed silent on what that means to losses.  I wonder why..!

I do wonder what is happening in the background, the Trusts short write up certainly throws a lot of uncertainty with talk of "sport can be unpredictable", owners are "fully realistic about scenario planning and the ongoing level of investment required to sustain Charlton" and "No immediate pressure to cut costs".  It's not exactly empathic support.

The question I would love to have answered are, who has bought CMs shares and do ACA still own 10%?

With talk of another potential owner in the wings, then theoretically both CM and ACA could have sold out to a third party, slowly adding shares, and given the Caymen Islands registration we would know nothing about it would we?  (Although I assume ACA still own 10% rather than having sold).
  • Where was it said that the bigger owners swallowed the ACA%?

If  as CAST said, it was planned then who planned it?

And why do you "imagine" the trust did dig? Their last attempt at probing queations were  "what do you think we are going to ask?" And "do you like the new sign?"
From CM and GCs visit to Bromley Addicks
"CM  I've read the same articles.  One of the benefits of multiple ownership is that the risk is spread and if someone drops out there are others around."

Whilst that isnt directly from the club, it certainly suggests its just been enveloped by the other investors

re: Probing questions - clearly any group can ask the questions, and with CAST being on the advisory board - theres no reason to think that they wouldnt have dug deeper than 'it was planned' - whether you like the trust or not, think its somewhat unfair to presume theyve just swallowed it and opened themelves up to criticism by putting that information out there without at leat scratching a little deeper at a minimum

Anyway if he was pushed I doubt he'd then be moving on to working for the academy we've just got a tie up with, he'd want nothing to do with anyone even loosely related to us
Why not ? It's a wage in a presumably managerial position in the sunshine of Jamaica, didn't he spend time there prior to the link up ? I'll bet he's thinking he's had a right touch.

    If he’s managed to sell
his shares for real cash he has done well. Wasn’t it suggested he was ‘gifted’ his shares did his role in helping to bring the mystery consortium together ?

On top of that a salary for the last 18 months plus expenses then I suspect he is very content.

We are loss making and will remain so.

Well, it was me that asked the question about ACA at Bromley Addicks and in no way did CM say the big owners had or planned to buy out ACA so it suggests nothing of the kind you suggest.

In fact, it has all gone very quiet on ACA.

Given their public record of inane questions and that their statement just recites what the club have told them then yes it is totally fair to presume the Trust "just swallowed" it.

    If they scratched deeper then:

    Who planned this planned move?

How is CM no longer an owner?

So why did Bromley Addicks not dig any further? just swallowed what Methven was saying?

Methven saying that “if someone drops out there are others around” certainly points to them not being involved anymore (with him being unprompted to bring that into it) more than the status quo being as it was when the group took over!
I’m not a member either, but if your 2 questions are so pressing - you could always pay your £5 and contact CAST directly!?

Realistically, most fans would have prodded CAST to go and get answers from the club- and now some are saying those answers weren’t good enough/doesn’t answer their questions

Bit of a dummy, but he’s ‘armless
  • It sniffs of a takeover….prob one of the investors…quietly buying out other shareholders…

So you're directly attributing the "demise of the SMT" to the upturn in footballing form?
No, other way round, the demise of the SMT allowed the footballing people like NJ to take full control and improve the form.
  • We've just sold Andre Bikey's old shorts
Charlie was living in BFP's old shirt ?
  • No, other way round, the demise of the SMT allowed the footballing people like NJ to take full control and improve the form.
But that's horseshit isn't it. Up until the "demise" of the SMT what was happening then, was Scott and Charlie running the training drills and Jones was just an onlooker? Was Rodwell taking the shooting practice and Doris the tea lady in charge of Set Pieces?

The upturn in form happened because the training, discipline and fitness that Jones had begun to implement, alongside the good doctor and everyone else, was beginning to take shape, and we found a system and a first XI that clicked. Nothing of that is to do with what the SMT were or weren't doing at the time, and any other conspiracy that people have of Scott and others meddling in team selection or whatever is for the birds
  • Why Jamaica?

Built on Eighty-Eight acres of beautifully forested rolling hills overlooking the Runaway Bay Ocean, Mount Pleasant Academy, embodies the epitome of the perfect blend between academia and sports.

He went of his own accord. (that nearly worked  :/)

  • If fans want to blame the SMT for last season, then they're deserving of some credit for this. Yes, the players and manager are more deserving of it, but they didn't fall off a passing cloud to be playing for us, so some credit must be due to the SMT. Allocating it to individuals requires insider knowledge I don't have, but the changes we've seen made are a big clue as to those identified as being the weakest links IMHO.
