Those Kent bowling figures are underwhelming. Quite democratic that 1 umpire (Tredwell) is ex Kent, while the other is ex Sussex!
I always find preseason cricket games even more of a tough judge than preseason football esp with expanded sides. Kent I assume have Wes Agar to add to that side? Sussex have Dan Hughes and Jayden Seales to come in as overseas.
Do agree that Kent attack looks a quality bowler light even with Wes to come. Parkinson will probably be the main threat
Bringing in 2 overseas bowlers is quite an investment in the early season. I guess we want to get off to a good start, and hope Parky can come into his own from June onwards.
A bit odd that Cohen is training in S Africa away from us.

With Rogers that makes four in total but, presumably, we are making a saving on Agar not being with us for those first two months. Cohen training in S. Africa is strange but that might have something to do with us knowing that he probably won't be fit for the start of the season and not wishing to interrupt what he is doing out in what are likely to be more cricket like temperatures.

Knowing Kent's history, Cohen will be fully fit in September, just before his contract expires!

Interesting that Finch opened with Muyeye at no 4, as the second opener spot has been a bit of an issue for us. Finch opening and keeping wicket will be tough though.
Finch opening again in today's practice match, maybe a permanent switch.
238-8 declared. DBD 56, Evison 51 (ret) and Jaydn 56* the main contributors. Muyeye really has used this as an opportunity for time in the middle - he batted twice for 2 (9) and 20 (51) and didn't hit a boundary.
Well we've had a fair selection of guest bowlers turning out for us today - Fred Klaassen (despite having white ball only contract), Corey Flintoff (dad is doing some guest coaching), Harry Dowling (from Bexley CC) and someone called M Mian? (edit - he is Mudasir Mian from the ACE programme).
Chris Benjamin opened in out second innings and was out first ball - that's a duck in both his pre-season innings when opening.
Just 14 contracted players unavailable for the game that has just ended for one reason or another which left us with a bare 11 - seven of those missing are seam bowlers, hence the need to bring in outsiders. Garrett was on the team sheet for his week's game but didn't play any part so, presumably is injured.

This is what The Times thinks in its season preview
Kent
Coach Adam Hollioake
Captain Daniel Bell-Drummond (championship), Sam Billings (T20)
Overseas Wes Agar (Aus), Tom Rogers (Aus, T20), Kashif Ali (Pak, April and May), Keith Dudgeon (SA, April and May)
It was a significant coup for Kent to get someone of the calibre of Adam Hollioake as their new coach after a disappointing 2024 led to Matt Walker stepping down as head coach. Hollioake does not have a vast coaching CV but he knows all about success and has a specific ethos that he will instil in what is a talented squad that has underperformed in recent years. Given the level of talent and experience in their ranks, they would certainly be expected to push for promotion straight back up to Division One. Ben Compton, Joey Evison and Jack Leaning all have the ability to accumulate a mass of runs, and they have signed two overseas players — Pakistan’s Kashif Ali and South Africa’s Keith Dudgeon — to cover the start of the season until Wes Agar arrives in late May. The signing of Chris Benjamin from Warwickshire is an astute one.

In relative terms, it should be a decent L2 squad. Certainly nearer the top than the bottom.
Update on the squad to face Loughborough and those not playing. The interesting one is Corey Flintoff who at 19 and three years older than his brother, Rocky, doesn't have a pro contract.
Fred Klaassen, a white-ball contracted player at the Club, has been selected to help with his return to playing after a long-term back injury that ruled the Dutch international out of the 2024 season.
Corey Flintoff has been training with the squad this past week and after bowling four overs in Kent’s last warm-up match against Essex, the 19-year-old has been included in Kent’s squad for this match.
Zak Crawley is selected after not featuring in Kent’s two-day warm-up fixtures.
Jack Leaning has recovered from a slight hamstring injury and is included in the squad for this match.
Ben Compton fell awkwardly in the field against Essex this past week and has been rested for this match as a precaution.
George Garrett has been advised by the Club’s medical team to sit out of this match after feeling tightness in his quad over the past few days.
Marcus O’Riordan has been ruled out of this match whilst he recovers from back spasms this past week.
Matt Quinn’s hamstring injury has kept him out of Kent’s pre-season preparations, with the Club’s medical team working closely with him on rehabilitation.
Joe Denly sustained a fractured arm whilst batting in the nets during pre-season training which has required surgery, and he is unavailable for selection at this time.
Mikey Cohen is training through his return-to-bowling schedule in South Africa and will not feature in Kent’s season warm-up fixtures. He will return to Canterbury ahead of the beginning of the 2025 county season.
Overseas signings Keith Dudgeon & Kashif Ali will arrive in Canterbury before the start of the Rothesay County Championship.
Imagine not only dealing with the famous surname, but also having your thunder stolen by a junior sibling making headlines in men’s cricket before sitting his GCSEs.
That has been the lot of recent times of Corey Flintoff, who hopes to follow 16-year-old brother Rocky into the county cricket ranks ahead of the 2025 season starting next week.
Mail Sport understands Flintoff, 19, is under serious consideration for a rookie deal at Kent after impressing the coaching staff led by Adam Hollioake during a trial period that included him bowling a four-over, pre-lunch spell of seam against Essex at Canterbury on Friday.
Ekansh Singh, who signed a rookie contract last July, has disappeared from the list of players. Unless that contract was just for last season's Metro Bank comp?
England U19 Ben Dawkins hasn't signed a rookie contract but is in our Academy. Neither can play for us unless they are under contract but I suppose that it is possible that they both could be signed for the Metro Bank this year too.

Kent 8-1 (Crawley 0 - second ball he shouldered arms to a straight one)
