  • Chuks is a proper hero who will give his all. Thought he was great yesterday

I worry that 3/4 of Chuks battles are with his internal self. Yesterday was a no pressure free hit, often he is introduced when we are behind and desperately need something. The pressure he seems to put on himself to deliver sometimes seems to prevent him from being the free flowing menace that he can be.

i hope he finds himself and is able to shine his light for us a few more times. Always loved Chuks.
I agree. And think having not scored all season and uncertainty over his future he is probably hoping he can get that scoring a goal feeling one more time. Probably pressuring himself that yesterday was an easy opportunity to get that and in front of a full Covered End.

I think if he gets one soon he will get a couple as that pressure will come off.

Cameo appearances at 4-0 when the game as a contest is over, aren't those that we should be judging Chuks on. He needs to be that game changer, like in his first spell with us, especially whilst leaburn is out.

We all wanted Chuks to score yesterday but he just moved too early and the goal was offside. The earlier chance he had was unlucky as he curled the ball quite sweetly. Bizarre that he is suddenly fit for selection but maybe DR Will Abbott is a miracle worker. It would be good if Aneke could play a part but he isn't part of the press but did shield the ball much better in his cameo against a well beaten side.

The fact is Kanu is the best presser in this team (Godden's view) and we will need Daniel over the rest of this season in the squad as that will be needed. Especially if Leaburn is out for the season according to the ITK.

He scored against Rotherham at home this season. Goal of the season contender too

great to see the return of Proper Chuks .. IF ONLY he could do that every week .. playing thru the pain for a new contract ? .. we will see

His arrival at least means that tiring defenders face a challenge towards the end of a game. He's quite good at holding up and distributing the ball, plus his height and strength give us a variation to our normal play. I'm never concerned when he comes on as I think he always adds something both in attack and when defending set pieces.

I know and that's why Dixon got a run out yesterday but I assumed he was only going to be out for a few weeks and would be available for selection maybe next week 🤷🏻‍♂️ Your guess is us good as mine.

Unfortunately we live in an age of 🤐 from the club so we have too either listen to the ITK about Miles "out for the season "🤔 and hope "turning your ankle over" for Kanu is just a sprain.

I understand you maybe don't want the opposition to know but it so frustrating as a fan. I feel sorry for the injured player when they get asked the same question a hundred times at a match about their current fitness.

  • Has he lost his pace or has he been told to play within himself and to different strengths?

If he makes it to May unscathed, has a full pre-season, he could be a useful Championship  (I hope) option.

I'd be happy if we can work out a rolling deal.
Others have speculated that recently too, but either way we get the same outcome on the pitch with a lack of any pace and inability to press, other than it meaning he should be available more often.

I’d be very surprised if he gets another deal as a player with us, even if we’re still in L1 next season. That’s got to be budget that can be better spent on a player who can regularly play 90 minutes.
  • Mmmm, Ahadme can play for 90 minutes but is not demonstrating that would be a good idea at present. When i see a bench with Chuks on it I am much happier than when he is not on it.

Would you say the same if Chuks was a new signing and you only had this season to go off?
  • Difficult to say, probably yes. Even in the games where others have thought he has offered little i have still seen a level of quality, ball control and hold up play which have eluded our other options

You are correct. That minor adjustment made I still think my perception of the pressure he is putting on himself still stands.

I can see the sense in that, but Ahadme not being good enough shouldn’t be justification for offering Chuks a new deal.
  • True, and i'm not saying I would offer Chuks a new deal, not knowing whether i could get him for a reasonable wedge, don't know what that is. Bit i can think of worse uses of money than having chuks to bring on for 20 mins a game.

Sadly he's generally only available half a season so unless i was sure that was fixed/much less likely to occur, i wouldnt offer him a deal at all.
  • My concern is whether he’ll still be able to do that next year or if we’ve seen signs of him becoming less effective.
  • Well if he hasnt been told to go on and do a particular hold up job in the lat couple of appearances before yesterday, then I guess management will be worried, but if he's done exactly what he has been asked to they will be less so. We will probably never know.
  • Agree with a lot of the comments here, and I have to admit that I've got very rose-tinted specs when it comes to Chuks, but that wound-up version of him that we got yesterday is brilliant - the combo of touch, footwork, link-up play and physicality can be unplayable on his day. Their guy bounced off him on the wing when he went on to setup Dixon rather than go for it himself.

One thing that struck me when he passed to Dixon was that he's probably playing for his last proper contract (wherever that may be) and coming off the bench he may have something like ~100mins left this season to do that. Anyway, in that moment his instinct was to try to set up the young lad for a goal in front of the Covered End which I did think was pretty classy, although I'm sure he regrets it now!

Anyway - my two cents on Chuks overall is that when I look at our last play-off final I'd much, much rather have him coming off the bench than Josh Parker (who I have no problem with). Also, I may be in the minority here, but if we can make his contract make financial sense I think we could do a lot worse than signing him up for another year if we're still in this division.

He's done absolutely nothing to deserve a new deal, even a rolling one. Wasn't even that good a cameo yesterday.
  • He was brought on early (for him) at Posh….. would think it was more likely to be to chase the game than keep things as they were?
But as you say, we’ll likely never know……
