I personally hope we don’t need to see him in a Charlton shirt again. Decent enough yesterday but he’s done. he can barely run. Looked exhausted in the subs post match training session that you could watch from the fans bar. He left that early
Agree with a lot of the comments here, and I have to admit that I've got very rose-tinted specs when it comes to Chuks, but that wound-up version of him that we got yesterday is brilliant - the combo of touch, footwork, link-up play and physicality can be unplayable on his day. Their guy bounced off him on the wing when he went on to setup Dixon rather than go for it himself.
One thing that struck me when he passed to Dixon was that he's probably playing for his last proper contract (wherever that may be) and coming off the bench he may have something like ~100mins left this season to do that. Anyway, in that moment his instinct was to try to set up the young lad for a goal in front of the Covered End which I did think was pretty classy, although I'm sure he regrets it now!
Anyway - my two cents on Chuks overall is that when I look at our last play-off final I'd much, much rather have him coming off the bench than Josh Parker (who I have no problem with). Also, I may be in the minority here, but if we can make his contract make financial sense I think we could do a lot worse than signing him up for another year if we're still in this division.
I love Chuks but the only way a new deal makes financial sense is if he pays us
I’m a massive Chuks fan but it’s fairly obvious this is the end of the road for him in SE7. Scaring defenders and winning headers isn’t enough for an impact player, you need goals & assists and he isn’t getting either. The fact he can’t really run more than 10 yards with the ball is a massive hindrance and almost removes the impact of him winning a header as he can’t run on to the chance it creates. He’s done well for us over 2 stints at the club and I will remember him fondly as one of my favourite Charlton players to watch but his time is up and that’s ok
He’s got 1 goal this season. Surely even the most hardy of you cheat code souls must admit that these cameos aren’t what they used to be. We absolutely do not need him on a rolling contract, pay as you play or on a reduced wage
He’s simply not even capable of doing it off the subs bench anymore.
Absolutely incredible, isn't it?
He comes on when we're already 4-0 up and people are suddenly touting possible new deals again. This thread is like Groundhog Day.
Chucks is like an old loyal horse that has served his time and now needs to be put out to pasture. You've known it for some time, and so has he, no matter how hard he tries to prove it otherwise.
He'll start 15 games next season for his new club.
And I'll be over the moon for him if he does. I've dreamed of him scoring at Wembley. But as tough as it is for him and for us to see, we absolutely should not offer him a new contract.
I have always rated him and his performance Saturday suggested he still has a big part to play this season. I could certainly see him come off the bench and turn a game for us between now and season end. But a new contract next season, no. We need to move on from him and spend his not inconsiderable wage elsewhere.
If you can only play one or two subs, a new deal makes no sense. But when you can make five, some sense can be made of it. There will be games where his physical presence will help.
Regardless of what league we are in I wouldn't be offering him a new deal. He can still contribute in the run in absolutely but I wouldn't be looking to offer him an extension.
Chucks is my favourite player, the way he has bullied defenders and makes things happen is very entertaining.
but he has a very very very very poor injury record and is declining as a player. He should not be offered a new contract. However, if we go up, there are 9 match day subs. Would it be out of the question for him to be player coach and 7th choice striker?
Thank to Chuks but time for him and Charlton to move on as he doesn't fit the closing down mantra of Nathan and if he is on big wages we need that off the wage bill and going to someone like Ramsey* to keep him at CAFC for at least another Season.
* Not sure when Kayne's current deal runs out but CAFC need to offer him a better deal ASAP with a sell on clause to be fair to the player but hopefully multi millions!

Probably yes, given that Danny "Dark Arts' Hylton is currently in that exact position currently. One or the other in that role is probably justifiable, both at once less so.
Maybe Hylton moves on/steps up in his coaching ambitions but at present he's taking that role.
I am very amused by this player/coach stuff for Aneke. Has he shown any interest at all in coaching? I've never heard anything about him doing his badges and by all accounts he's not exactly the kind to be shouting at players on a training pitch. What would he even coach? How to be absolutely massive and use your enormous frame to hold the ball up? How to shrug players off like a runaway train? The main reason we've got Hylton in as a coach is because he was a comparatively limited player technically but he used absolutely everything on and off the pitch to get the most out of his ability, which is what Jones wants him to pass on to the other players. Chuks is more pure talent and size which isn't as coachable

A strength and conditioning coach? I do accept the irony btw.
All I am focused on is now to end of season atm and hoping that we can gain promotion and Chuks when called upon will make a positive impact, whether that be making the oppo’s defence’s job exceptionally difficult for 20 mins or him scoring a winning goal at Wembley.
The rest will play out as it needs to and while here the lad gets 100% of my support.
His first real decent performance since Bolton away and people are really considering keeping him on for next season?
fcking hell.....
Exactly this. And to be honest when you are winning 4 nil and in cruise control anyone can come on and look good. Last week at Peterborough when things were going wrong we put him on to try and make a difference and he was rubbish. The idea of giving him another contract is utterly bonkers.
Chuks Aneke is a property developer and couldn't afford the drop in wages to be a full time football coach at League 1 level. I would be surprised if he has even taken any badges or has any interest in that.
He could open his own Gym as that is where he has spent most of his time since being on the Charlton pay role when he couldn't get out and train on the grass and he must be an expert on weights.
I think many of us are Chuks fans, some less so, but to give him a playing contract would be madness, unless he has that groin and hamstring transplant from Nathan Jones.
Ideally he will sign-off his playing career with an important goal for Charlton and move on with his life, he has his own business and he seems pretty level headed.
By the way, I do think the majority are probably right and my extremely pro-Chuks views are way off... but I do actually rate him and I've made peace with it being the Charlton Life hill I die on.
Just give us a big winning goal in the play-offs as a send off...

Maybe if he drops far enough down the pyramid You could see on Saturday that he's lost none of his vision or touch He might have scored or assisted twice at least but for making the wrong choice: his left foot curler that shaved the far post should have been a pass to Dixon for a tap in - Chuks knew he'd got it wrong which was why he was beating the ground in frustration Next chance he played in Dixon, who went down far too softly, Chuks might well have shot. I'm not blaming Chuks for either choice, they weren't howlers just a bit of bad luck. Being limited to max 20 minutes isn't viable in League 1 and can't be countenanced if we get promoted
I fully expect he'll have offers for next season and good luck with whatever he does next - so long as it doesn't bring him up against us any time soon.
judging by how slow moving he was throughout tonight’s cameo he’s carrying injuries again One sublime glimpse of his natural talent with the long range shot but after that the only thing that came off was the pass to TC for the goal I doubt we’ll see him before any playoff games Makes me wonder how pony Gas must be in training if NJ favours Chuks on quarter power!
