Reading deducted 3 points

  • I know we’re in competition with them as a club, but I do feel for the fans, with all the uncertainty and anxiety it causes with what’s going on, we’ve had years of it, and it doesn’t do anyone any good, hope they can get things resolved quickly.

I think there will have to be a points deduction before the end of the season...

Think of it this way. How stupid would it be, if they won the playoffs, and after winning promotion, then got thrown out of the league?

Give them a points deduction now, make sure the play offs are out of reach, and fully deal with the issue in the close season.
This is obviously what should happen but there is zero chance EFL will get anywhere close to dealing with it in a professional manner
They took nearly 2 years to address Chansiri’s  flagrant rule breaking at SheffWeds who avoided relegation as a consequence

  • Don’t punish the team/fans for the actions of an owner
  • as good as it is for the Reading fans, it does make somwhat a mockery of the whole set of rules The EFL play by - if they just keep extending the suspension threat.

Surely if you have rules, you have to stick to them rather than the case by case translation and reading of the rules.
    Exactly.

And if they do get to the April 22nd deadline & the club has still not been sold do you really think the EFL are going to suspend them with less than 2 weeks of the season left. Do me a favour.

The deadline in reality is May 4th. Or if Reading are in the play offs then May 26th.

    You read it here first.
The EFL are not going to kick a club the size of Reading out, unless they are given no other choice (ie. this drags on into the summer). The 22nd April definitely won't be a proper deadline either, they'll just be given a 'final warning' or something like that and they'll then get to the end of the season. They'll then get a 'final final warning' that will take them up until the EFL have their AGM in early June (it's usually 1-2 weeks after the play off finals), as it would surely need to be resolved by then.

Realistically the EFL will want to give Reading as much time as possible to resolve this, whilst at the same time probably secretly hoping that they don't make the play offs, as it would be very awkward if they got promoted and then had to be suspended from the league.

I fully expect this will all get resolved eventually and i'd be amazed if we ever get to a point where they are kicked out.

The second paragraph is an interesting scenario.
  • When you remember what has happened to our club  in the past surely the EFL should be given credit for trying to keep Reading operating. Penalise the owner  but not the club and supporters.
Absolutely, football is for the supporters and the community

    however
if they were to achieve promotion via the play-offs, how would it be fair and in ‘best practice in competition’ for clubs to lose out by playing by the rules.

would expect some big legal cases from clubs arround the playoffs if Reading do get promoted
  • Reading has one of the better new fangled bowl stadiums that have been built over the last few decades.

Disagree with that. Can't stand there new ground, considering its look and location. On top of that it is one of the worst for leg room at the seats.
    Agreed, it’s crap
  • It's a dull, bog standard bowl stadium. Perfectly fine, but nothing special, and in a poor location. But then in prosperous southern towns and cities, land is usually at a premium, whereas outside the southeast there are often affordable derelict sites near the centre.

The away section behind the corner flag is a mare, the view may be good but the concourse area is very cramped.
Admittedly transport to and from the railway station has got better over the years.

Reading fans seem optimistic about this, as they reckon it involves Platek stepping away from potentially buying the club, and so allowing Couhig (another American) to complete a takeover, as he already owns the Stadium / Training Ground

Seems that this is Dai Yongge's only option now too, other than letting the club die - But given how he's been, you still wouldn't put it past him

I would guess that the location, number of lanes in those roads around the area and the traffic we saw on matchdays when we have played there suggests that large footprint stadium has a more lucrative use option that doesn’t include football.
  • American football?
  • Maybe merge with Oxford and become the Thames Valley Royals? I heard that one before somewhere.
