Why have we prepared such a green top? Don't we want any batting points?
I could understand it if it had been cold and damp recently, but it's been lovely and sunny for weeks.
The evidence of the last few years is that it doesn't matter we have a green 'un, a bunsen burner or a road: we do not get big totals first innings, we're more likely to top-score in the second knock when we don't get any bonus points.
If someone had given us 222 all out before play we'd have taken it. Only Fernandes and last man Brookes failed to reach double-figures so, hopefully, there's enough for our batters if they apply themselves.
This pitch has to be one that gives Zak Crawley absolute nightmares, nibbling green top pitch with medium pacers on show. One fears he Won’t be sticking around for long
The bowlers carried the team at Northampton and they’ve started well for us again. The batters need to pay them back, but have started badly again. DBD being bowled without playing a shot is inexcusable.
I think it never went away. First game's totals of 231 and 171 were in keeping with last season but the fact that the oppo were even worse somewhat disguised that.
