My understanding is the EPPP rules (really is naff all compensation which is set in stone) are for youngsters who have never signed a contract. For U24s who have signed a contract (irrespective if what academy they came through), the club they are leaving gets compensation set at a tribunal. It is unlikely to be enough to satisfy fans but won't be peanuts like the EPPP system. I may be wrong.

He's certainly not the finished article yet - that's why he's with us. He has definitely improved whilst with us and if had any sense he would stay next season and continue his development. Got the feeling though that he'll be listening to his agent.
I like Small, but he is very hit and miss. Said to my dad at the weekend that he's no CBT who has struggled one div up, and he's certainly not at Tyreece levels. He has ability, but he's far from the finished article. I know everyone keeps saying he's a wing back, but he's played right wing pretty much since the "light bulb " moment of Northampton away. He's not actually very good at defending imho but has a lot of energy to get up and down the wing and is better going forward. Definitely a rough diamond who'd be better off getting a couple of seasons of proper football under his belt. Still a young man with a "high ceiling " as they say!

Yeah, I get that, but he's so much better bombing forward than defending. Having Ramsey behind him helps as he plays centre half, right back and wingback at the same time lol I wasn't knocking Small, I have a lot of time for him and I love the way he just keeps going even if things don't come off for him. Would love him to stay and improve under NJ. COYA
One other factor is that he's a midlands boy and if a club playing at a higher level and north of Watford showed interest then I think it would suit him.

I don't think it is all down to agents. Players generally have a belief in their own ability to step up. This combined with a decent pay rise helps make up their mind Don whether to stay or go.

I do think the way we set up suits him down to the ground.
Agree, I think he looks better on the right to the point you could say it’s his best position.
If he moves on he’ll need a team where he has the freedom to get forward and take players on. He needs to keep working on his consistency and end product. It won’t help his progression if he’s in a team where he’s relied on as the only pacey threat in the team, or has to focus mainly on defending.

Depends who else we lose .
We lost Dobbo and Alfie last summer and we look like jumping from 16th to the playoffs. At league one level, this shouldn’t be that hard to replicate.
More important than who we lose is who we bring in.
I rate him and he has a very high ceiling but he is still very raw and gets away with some pretty poor distribution and passing because it's league 1. If he goes elsewhere to a Championship team it will either rgo excellently or he will be bombed out within a few games I suspect Should stay a couple of years and work on his foot all where he is first choice.
Good left backs are hard to find - he will play regularly somewhere .
He's not even playing Left-Back though, he's been doing better at Right-Back
Could make the argument that Edwards is the better Left-Back.
He would play left back in another team .
Is he good enough defensively to play LB or even LWB in a decent Championship team at the moment?
His current role exploits his flair and he has the protection of the incredibly solid Ramsay behind him.
They will sign him for the potential . Some people said Purrington was better than Maatsen and that the latter would never be good enough defensively

Embarrassing comment and wrong. He put two excellent crosses over, one for Godden's header and another one from the left when Berry etc couldn't get their shot off. I think there was a third cross as well which no one got on the end of.Of course at times he has two left feet and others tmes magic feet. I can't add enough that the reason we are doing well in the 2nd half of the season is because of Thierry whether on the left or right and the regular boys at the back, plus the skills of TC who couldn't quite deliver today.
Both TC and Small are the players who go past defenders and at times they will lose the ball as they both get double marked.
Next season Small will be playing higher than league 1; either with or without Charlton.

It's the PL quality moments which will ensure he's in the Championship next season, as coaches will fancy themselves to reduce the non league moments.

The cross for Berry's shot was mishit and went to Berry who was arriving late then managed to get his shot away. The other cross was overhit to the far post. His showboating got him caught when defending second half and he ran the ball out twice when he had a chance to cross. In fairness to him and your comment, him moving onto the right gave us a better attacking impetus and has improved the teams form, but his last three games have not lived up to his early promise, he was non existent against Lincoln and Cambridge, slightly better today when he went left side, but he wasn't in the game first half, although he wasn't alone in that stat.

Even Rak-Sakyi with us was very inconsistent in the first half of the season. The moment Small finds a consistent end product, alongside the flare, he'll be going to the prem.
Not guaranteed it will happen, but I think that's the gamble that a championship club would take.
Campbell is generally the go-to option when the ball goes out wide which means Small probably isn't seen as getting into the game as much as he should do.
But the beauty of having Campbell and Small both out wide is that they're both as destructive as anybody in this division, i'm sure I saw a stat posted by someone that had Campbell with the most successful dribbles in the league but quite overlooked was Small in 3rd place with only Louie Barry inbetween which shows even if Campbell gets the ball more often, that Small just by being there is just as much a threat too.
Take Small out of the team and Campbell gets doubled up on, with Small out there too it's hard for teams to double up on both.
Admittedly he needs to rein in the showboating but he's still very much a match-winner in himself still.
