  • Jones must have agreed with signing Ahadme? Not sure we can say it's 100% down to Scott.

I agree. He was being built up as some kind of powerhouse who you have to remove from the gym/training ground. Once it came to matchday, he lacked any strength or understanding as to which boots to wear with the correct studs.

He seems to be our 6th/7th choice forward now.
  • He's absolutely a Jones type of player. Absolute fitness freak who is good at pressing. Not just in terms of getting there but he's also good at cutting angles and recognising where to funnel the ball. The problem is he was also signed to hold the ball up further up the pitch and it didn't work. He then got injured, we completely changed how we were playing and he hasn't got back in. I feel bad for him in that he didn't look good earlier in the season, but then neither did Small, Gillesphey, Docherty, REG, Anderson and at times Campbell, Berry and Godden. Ahadme hasn't had any opportunities in this new system where we have width and actually put crosses into the box; most of Ahadme's goals last season for Cambridge were headers and think about the number Godden has had served up to him in recent games. It is quite telling though that Mbick has been coming on ahead of him in recent games, Gass seems to have gone the way of Alex Mitchell in being a player that Jones has pushed aside in his thinking and might not be able to make it back in. He hasn't had a chance to offset the performances earlier in the season like a lot of other players have but given where we are right now it's hard to argue that he should have.
    Excellent summation.
Yep, he’s not had a chance to prove himself on a match day, but Jones sees him every day in training and all other strikers must be impressing him more. Hope he comes good otherwise that’s a hell of a lot of money down the drain. I wonder if Jones brief to Scott was this kind of player and Scott just phoned Ipswich and got another overpriced donkey.

    Agree
  • Trying to be constructive, he just looked very awkward and out of place on a football pitch.  He may well have decent aerial ability and saw a distinct lack of service during the early part of the season when we were pretty poor, but he looked very unnatural overall.

I could see the engine and the pressing, but he has no pace.  He looks very fragile and lightweight, so doesn’t fit the bill of a big man up top/someone to hold the ball up, and he never struck me as a wiley finisher and someone clever enough to fashion chances in an Alfie May type mould.

You can argue it would be worth seeing what he has to offer now we’re a better outfit, but you can also argue we’ve seen our fair share of dross down here in the 10 years, he looks like he’s well within the latter category quite comfortably.  I hope we can move him on in the summer
  • Yes he's been very disappointing for us, but he WAS fairly successful for Cambridge last season, so there's definitely a better player there than we've seen. 11 goals in 29 appearances (with 22 starts) for a poor Cambridge side isn't bad at all.

He shouldn't be starting, but I do find it odd that he's featured so little. Indeed I'm confused why he's even on the bench when NJ seems so reluctant to use him.

    Nicky Ajose .
  • The most disappointing thing about Ahadme is that he looks slower st this moment in time than Chuks.

Every time he has been in a foot race you back him to lose. Can't see him getting faster amd its a massive handicap for his type of striking role.

Can only assume he's been on the bench in case we have to make a change that's too early in the game for Aneke or the inexperienced Mbick. Though I'd rather see Dixon or Enslin there myself.
  • Watched his Cambridge showreel again the other day. 13 goals and pretty much either headers or penalties.
Could see him coming on at Wembley and putting a header away.

Which is why he did ok at Cambridge as their main tactic is hoofing the ball into the penalty box.

Had a dream he came on and got our winner at Wembley. Must be wrong as we are going to finish 2nd

Also wrong because there will be a number of subs coming on before he is even thought about.
  • I don't think he is popular within the camp. This is my understanding.

Replaced on the bench by old man Hylton.
That old man is there to run down the clock if we are winning.

If he isn't injured then that surely signifies the end of his Charlton career.
  • Ridiculous amount of jumping to conclusions on here.

Last time he was dropped from the squad entirely it turned out he was injured, the time before that he was hospitalised. He might be shit, he might be injured, Hylton might have been banging in 30 yard worldies in training recently, no-one truly knows

“Tomfoolery” as NJ called it, knowing there might have been kids watching.

True, but posters will speculate because he wasn't bought to fulfill a role as a fringe player, only occasionally making the bench.
  • Not ILK but at Southend cup game the players seemed really pleased for him when he scored and pushed him forward to the crowd at the end
No, they were trying to push him into the crowd.
  • A 3-game reprieve...
