Tapping out was ridiculous ,as was the non celebrations afterwards
Yeah, look at some of the names that Gunther put away during his IC and WHC runs and I’m meant to believe that Jey Uso can tap him out in about 5 seconds 😂
From All In at Wembley Stadium to Forbidden Door at The O2, that's a massive drop off.
Reckon we're closer than ever to a London WM at Wembley
Don’t think it’s that fair to suggest that any show that isn’t in a Wembley Stadium size setting is a ‘drop off’. All In is AEW’s big show. Forbidden Door is bit of a niche event even by AEW standards.
The O2 is still a big venue for any promotion that isn’t WWE to be doing, and they’ll more than likely sell it out.
Doubt I’ll bother with this one tbh. The whole Japan crossover cycle always seems very shoehorned in and I’ve absolutely no interest in NJPW.
Doesn’t help that New Japan are now at their worst that they’ve been for years, still the top dogs in Japan but they are now losing Jeff Cobb and Tetsuya Naito, and the new lads just aren’t that good
Managed to stay up until just before the triple threat so about to watch that now. Thought LA Knight Vs Jacob Fatu was great but the rest was bang average. Might have been the worst crowd I’ve ever seen which didn’t help
Thought all matches were really high quality. Enjoyed watching it, but felt like a standard PPV excluding the big main event.
Normally hyped for a title change, but hasn’t been a proper build for the tag or US championship so didn’t feel big occasions.
Thought match of the night was Tiffiany v Charlotte. I am huge El Grande Americano fan so pleased he got the win on his debut.
Thankfully only travelling to Wycombe on Monday, so plenty of time to sleep after mania and don’t have to skip sleep if we were playing at Blackpool/Bolton etc

AEW are signing their biggest names. They'll make a move for Gabe Kidd. It's fine though because it's not WWE creating a monopoly! 🙃

It's not just AEW though is it...(If WWE could hurry up and sign Fit Finlay's really boring son, the better)

And tbh I really hope they don't make a move from him, never was a fan of him even when he was wrestling for WCPW years and years ago, not every opponent for him is as good as Kenny Omega anyway
Thank god for the main event. The only memorable match of the night IMO.
Disappointing that it was also the only match that seemingly had any storyline progression.
Thought at the very least we’d get some sort of pay off to the El Grande Americano reveal, and also Big E/New Day. But no, just straight forward matches with quite plain finishes.
Crowd was very flat as well. The pricing was reportedly through the roof for Vegas, so it may have priced out a lot of regular fans.
I think if we got EGA Vs Rey Mysterio there would have been more of a payoff. Instead we got Fenix fed to him, running back the metal plate in the mask storyline from last week.

Think it was probably the same finish. IMO the real money match for that storyline is a Mask v Mask match at summerslam. Feel EGA had to win to continue the storyline. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes
Apparently one option is to have Gable wrestle Luchas and keep losing to them, and have EGA wrestling the same guys and winning all his matches, and they've even spoken about trying to get a body double more involved to try and blur the lines more (even though we all know it's Gable) and just really run with the silliness of the story
It was a good show but not to wrestlemania levels. They've set expectations too high. Although the match delivered, the build up to the main event wasn't the best. I expect the original plans were Jey and Gunther to head line. Perhaps Solo v Roman was also a plan. I expect night 2 to be better.
Gable, Tiffany and Jacob are incredible. Jade isn't ready for a 'mania single match. They should have had her in NXT for a while.
Could be Alistair Black, Miro or even Nick Aldis against Orton tonight.
I'll make a note. It's good when American companies sign all the best talent from Japan, but monopolies are bad.😃
End game for the gimmick should be a feud with Penta for the IC.
Could have a mask v mask match with Rey (i know, i know) lose it to reveal his true identity (El Dandy). Wonder if he'll get involved with AAA or world's collide?
With a bit of luck Gable will move up the card. IMO he has everything bar size.
LA Knight vs Jacob Fatu was the best match of the night for wrestling. Fatu is unreal and is extremely believable. He will be in the main event picture at some point surely. Ridiculous athleticism for such a big bloke.
Thought the Triple Threat was amazing personally and had a great finish. Only thing missing was that it wasn't a title match. Intrigued to see where they go with it all now.
Found night one pretty tough to get through. No particularly awful matches and a few of very good ones but my God four hours is a long time when you only care about one or two of the results.
Comments
Outside of the main event it was decent at best.
Jey vs Gunther - C+
Cargill vs Naomi - B-
LA Knight vs Jacob Fatu - B+
Gable vs Rey - D (not their fault but not mysterio ruined it)
Rollins vs Punk vs Reigns - A-
not awful but quite predictable and flat
Disappointing that it was also the only match that seemingly had any storyline progression.

If I'm honest, Rollins has been getting a bit dry, this has given him life.

A two night Summerlsam can piss right off.
