Chuks

  • I think some refs don't appreciate that some players are a lot stronger than others. It is hard not getting involved sometimes when the player is getting involved with you. I would be amazed if that didn't get overturned. I think the ref probably missed a bit and made an assumption.

Appealing the red card will at best be a waste of time but given the EFL's devotion to backing their woefully inadequate referees to the hilt, it's more likely they'll deem it an unjustified appeal and extend Chuks's ban to 5 games so he misses all possible fixtures.
    The whole thing is weird
He looked injured after 10 minutes on Friday, hands on knees for periods and completely unable to run.
Why he was risked when we were already 4 nil up defies common sense.
NJ had the experienced shithouse expert in Danny Hylton.
If he wanted a fit strong defender batterer to see out the last 10 or 20 minutes then Micah Mbick is bigger and stronger than any of them

Chuks's time at CAFC is over but yesterday will be an undeservedly ignominious curtain call.
  • Have people seen the clip where Jones refused to shake one of the Wycombe's staff hand and pointed at him? I suspect this is related to the sending off. The ref will have written a report and there is video evidence that needs to match the report. I think we have a decent chance of winning an appeal.

We all saw what happened which was some snidey player scuffling because Aneke is stronger than running into him and going down. That is never a sending off in a million years. Crazy that their player wanted to get one of our players sent off seeing as who we play next. If I was a Wycombe fan I would be mighty peed off with him although I don't think it would be the end of the world for us.
I think this is the key. If the ref writes that he thought there was a headbutt or arm/elbow thrown then the appeal will probably be successful as it’s clear from the video that these didn’t happen.

The worry is that the ref thinks Chuks deliberately turned his body so that his shoulder would hit Leahy in the face, the footage won’t help us here.

Personally I don’t think it should be a red anyway, it’s natural to turn and brace for impact if someone is running at you. That kind of run and block happens all the time in games, you can’t penalise Aneke for it just because he’s huge

Sure I saw the ref motion an elbow movement when someone asked him why he gave a red.

Ref should be asked why didn't the Wycombe player get booked or worse for play acting. Dreadful team full of cheats and pathetic Manager!
It should have been a yellow for both. I think play acting is harsh though, if I ran into Aneke I’d probably be down just as long. Plus Aneke went down holding his head which doesn’t look to have been involved

Why are people so adamant it won’t get overturned? It’s clearly not a red and it’s not like red cards never get rescinded when they are given in error.
Totally Agree. I think it will be overturned , it was never a red.

Because as someone else pointed out, refs get too much protection and the powers that be are reluctant to undermine their refs by acknowledging that they made a mistake.

    What "more"???
Perhaps he's agreeing with the decision & blaming Chuks. Perhaps there have been words with Chuks about his behaviour before & this was the last straw. His answers are not clear cut in any way.
He said on CharltonTV that he was going to speak to the referee straight after his interview with Charlotte when asked about the decision - Cant see him wanting to go and speak to the referee if he wanted to say nothing more than: "Great call there mate"
Jones saying to refs they made the right call- I would love to see that
he would get booked for being sarcastic.
  • The EFL don’t decide, an independent group do, as the suspension is managed via the FA
  • It’s not like red cards don’t get overturned ever, 2 got overturned just last week
  • All well and good for people to be saying he's stupid for getting involved, but if a little shit is grabbing you and pulling you around it's hard not to be wound up. And he clearly on video evidence barely does anything to him. Support your own rather than slagging him off for very minor handbags...
    All day long!

Never a red in a million years...they have a bit of a wrestle, shirt pulling, their lad tries to kick Chuks then gets free and runs into a brick wall. The ref is looking in the opposite direction when he hits the deck ffs. No arms raised by Chuks but i doubt it'll be overturned.
  • Looking at it slowed down it's clear the Wycombe player lowers his head and runs straight at Chuks before the collision and as others have pointed out the ref has turned and is focusing elsewhere.
  • If im making the decision I'm appealing it, Id rather have Chuks available against Wrexham and miss the two play-offs.

Amazing to give a red card if you are looking elsewhere when the incident happened. And I don't remember him asking a lino for a second opinion.
  • At that stage in the game, a yellow card each would have been fair. No need for either of them to behave like that at 4-0.

I doubt red card will be rescinded though. As with many fouls given against Chuks, it's his size that goes against him.

It makes normal sideway moves to block someone look a lot worse than it is and obviously doesn't help the way players then go down after running in to him.

  • I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything from the club as to whether they are appealing the dismissal or not.

Why bother letting Wrexham know, until he appears off the bus on Saturday afternoon in my opinion.
It seems to be how Nathan Jones plays it. He gives very little info on injuries either. I understand about keeping opponents in the dark, but does it really make much difference?
  • Imagine NJ will be asked in the press conference tomorrow, how he answers is a different question

Stupid if he evades the question. Its not as if Aneke is our star player & top goalscorer. He is a bit part player and although flicked on a header for Godden last weekend his other contributions are not that note worthy.

He has the joint most assists of the team and massively changes dynamics of games when he comes on, even if he doesn't score goals anymore. He's much more important than he seems
Exactly, he is our plan B. Sometimes you don’t need a plan B if plan A works but the Northampton game showed it clearly. We tried to play football but they pressed us well so we struggled. Because of this Aneke came on earlier so we could bypass the press and go long to him.
