Worth visiting The Broken Spoke if you want a proper country music bar. It featured on the front of a George Strait album from a few years back. I gather he used to perform there before he got big.
  • I think Austin FC have a record of selling out every home game, so probably why tickets are expensive. Good city, plenty to walk, eat and enjoy. I always try to get on a walking tour or an open bus tour to give you good overview of the sites.

I'll be heading to Austin in June, nice to see some good recommendations. Especially looking forward to trying some Texas BBQ. Was hoping to catch a game when out there but Austin FC charge about $80 a ticket which is excessive. I've seen there's a couple of USL sides in Austin who I'm planning to go see instead for a fraction of the price
We went to Terry Blacks after seeing it on Man versus Food and were a bit underwhelmed to be honest.

Support the USL if you can. MLS already suffocates the life out everyone that isn't MLS, and it doesn't need more money (it is also your money and you can spend it however you like)

Yeah it's not that special but it's a prime location in the city and the wait time isn't as long as Franklin's while still being comparable.

There are definitely better places for BBQ if you care about getting the best of the best. Interstellar BBQ is the talk of the town in recent months but I haven't been there myself yet. https://www.theinterstellarbbq.com/

Salt Lick is also very famous but it's a bit of a trek out of town to Driftwood if you want to visit their original location. https://saltlickbbq.com/driftwood/

You’ll not be far from the small town of Addicks which is slightly to the west of Houston.
  • Wish I was going to back to Austin in June! Kind of place I'd move to if Visas weren't an issue.
  • Thanks all for the recs! Two Austin sides play against each other Lonestar SC Vs Hill Country Lobos so I'm gonna go watch that!
  • @follett
    It gets HOT.

I'd recommend Salt Lick if you don't mind a drive/ Uber.

  • Wish I could give some recommendations but the time I went to watch my son play rugby there he ended up in a hospital stay with a concussion and a double fracture of his nose after being pretty much assaulted on the pitch, anyone remember Schumacher on Battiston in the World Cup, that pretty much nails it. Ruined the trip to be honest and I still have a bit of PTSD from watching it. Disappointed as we were looking forward to checking Austin out. Anyway he finishes college in 2 weeks so moving him from Iowa to Nashville where he's going to live with family for a bit, now that's a fun town to be in, really enjoyed visiting there! Sadly going to miss all the playoff games!
  • Not been, but the home of (probably) the best blues guitarist ever.  RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan.
