That is a point I was trying to make and thank you for putting it better than I did Rothko. Whatever we think probably should be balanced as much as possible by what is going on in the boardroom. The exit of Charlie and Andy Scott were a 'contract ends' situation but the exit of seven players was balancing the books. From the statement I read that was almost 18 grand a week off the books and a good thing too.Rothko said:

Agreed and I assume there must be some sort of hefty payment from Disney to make the documentary which has been what, 3 series now? They are extremely well funded and have put in good people to use those funds wisely. My criticism Prague, especially of Golfies posts are that as soon as we lose, it's blamed on not buying strikers in the January window. You posted a few weeks back that you agreed with Golfie about our lack of goalscoring, until I pointed out that in the second half of the season we'd scored more than Wycombe and Wrexham. If there is a criticism of how we progressed through the season, it's probably that we took time to gel the side together and struggled to find goals in that time. To state that we should have paid millions in January to improve our goal scoring when we have scored more than both Wrexham and Wycombe doesn't make any sense, and to state that we lost yesterday because we didn't sign another forward in January is worse. As I pointed out, Mullin and Palmer joined Wrexham in the National League. The more surprising thing is not that they didnt' make the starting XI yesterday, but that they still both played significant roles in getting the team to the brink of the Championship. Two more that have played significant roles are Elliott Lee and Eoghan O'Connell, both deemed by most fans to be not good enough for us when we were crap (I was one re Lee, but I thought O'Connell was unlucky with that injury and the chaos around him). And of course the current manager started with them in the NL too. Wrexham therefore are not Birmingham. There is a fabric to that club which has been built up over the last four seasons in a quiet, professional way. The Hollywood stuff has been kept quite separate. It brings in the money which is handed over to the football pros. I agree with you that with so many very senior players on their books their summer window will be challenging.
I don't know how best to answer your last sentence. What you will find is that, happy as I was, I was not one of those saying "no reason why we can't go and do something similar at Wrexham". Aneke's (unjust) red card was a major reason why I was cautious, because I knew we had no replacement who can bring what he brings. I like how Mbick is shaping up, but that was way too big an ask for an 18 year old yesterday. In the Jan window we all hoped Miles would come good and kick on. But hope alone doesn't get you promotion, you always need a plan B, and up front we don't have one now.

a lot of analysis on here but its as clear as day to me - small and tc playing on either side, offering a genuine threatr and able to go p[ast players is absolutely critical to our team - either one is out and we do not function - we all knew that and we all said not bringing in another in the window could be our undoing and so it has proved - lets hope they are both fit and firing for the play offs because if they aren't, its game over - it really is that simple8

The moment for us yesterday was Watson was in on goal. Had that gone in then perhaps. When it hit the keeper I thought to myself, as our chances were slim, not likely to reduce the gap. Autos was decided in November, but it was great to dream for a few matches. Now onto playoffs, a different challenge. Hope NJ does it this time, one better than he did with Luton.1

It would of taken something special to be shit for a third of a season and still go up automatically.
More drama to come I fear, no more off days like yesterday, we are a hollowed out squad. Our first 11 is a match for anyone but there is absolutely no back up to it. Those coming in are too young, or too slow and compromised, they are L2 or lower L1 at best.
That's what our SMT went with at the behest of whoever the fuck actually owns us and spends the money.

Fecked up my plan to watch the match yesterday, by arranging a family meal at 6:30pm. Missed the whole thing (thankfully) so I'll let off those that played, and NJ for his execution of the match plan.
As for the result, it's sobering, but just what this team needs ahead of the most important set of games this club has faced for 5 years or so. We were poorer than usual against a well oiled machine, that has three promotions on the bounce. The league table shows us, there isn't much in between the sides, but there are also two other useful outfits, also sitting above us in the league.
They will rightly think that they too have a great opportunity to grab that final promotion spot.
We have to hope that NJ saw the writing on the wall and rightly rested those that needed to be rested ahead of the crunch games to come over the next few weeks.
This squad has done wonders to make it 45 games before auto's became out of reach.
I hope the best players can be back in 10 days time, and also play at their very best, to give us a chance of Wembley.
We might be feeling down today, but we aren't out. If this opportunity going into game 46, had been put on the table in November, I'm pretty sure (almost) every fan on here would have grabbed it with both hands.

I am happy to eat humble pie when it is approproare, but if you really think that going into the play offs with Mbick (5 league appearance - 0 goals) and Kanu (58 league appearances - 7 goals) is the recipe for success then thats your choice.
It was obvious to anyone in January that we needed to strengthen in attacking areas - both up front & out wide. The club (according to NJ) were happy to run with less players & to rely on the youth if needs be. Well needs be and the youth (imo) are not up to it.
I'm not saying we should have bought Sam Smith but I'm sure there were less expensive & more experienced strikers out there in the summer / january than what we brought on yesterday.
And if you say we had 6 strikers already are you counting Hylton (who we only signed initially as an emergency) and the unfit Aneke who cant play more than 30 mins and certainly cant start a game.
There is a poem titled...." for want of a nail" and I fear our season will end accordingly with the words..." for the want of a striker".

Dobson is probably better than Docherty
Though it is a lot easier for Dobson to be good when he has 2 experienced championship midfielders next to him. He’s the 3rd best midfielder in Wrexhams team
Why do people keep bringing up Dobson and May whenever we lose. Yes, we probably should have kept Dobson. In hindsight, selling May was probably the correct move. Regardless, we are a better team now without both of them12 -
A LITTLE ASIDE
Waiting or the train @ Wrex General I was chatting to a few Addicks and a Wrexham fan when a very attractive lady sat down next to me. During the conversation she said that she had gone to the game (actually no ticket so she was in the 'Turf') as the start of her Europe holiday
Later on the train we sat together, I asked how Wrexham had got onto her agenda. Briefly she had seen the Wrexham documentaries and got the bug. She is from LA and amongst the chattering classes, Wrexham is evidently quite a hot topic.
We might mock, BUT Reynolds and McElhenny are popular stars and their somewhat bizarre takeover is causing a stir.
So expect an influx of U S tourists and probably money into North Wales very soon.

Conparing him to Coventry there’s more to it - correct me if I’m wrong but Coventry is generally our deepest midfielder, and Wrexham use Dobson more box to box, as NJ did last season, rather than in that deepest holding role. Coventry could have slotted into that Wrexham team and stepped up no problem.
I think both would compete in the Championship, but both would struggle if they were alongside players like Anderson and Docherty who aren’t at the same level.2 -

As for TC, remember he’s a pretty shy lad, and perhaps the atmosphere got to him. A don’t think he wasn’t trying, as some have suggested.The medical team is gonna play an important part if we’re going to win the playoffs. As many have said, our first choice starting lineup is pretty strong, when fit, especially when we can bring on Chuks and Anderson for the last 25 minutes.
Congrats to Wrexham, a fine old club with many long suffering fans, that’s been in the doldrums for years. I was cursing them, and their Hollywood owners yesterday, but that was at least partly envy.6 -
We didn't need another striker in January. We had Leaburn, Aneke and apparently Ahadme all missing yesterday, any side would be down to their bare bones as a result of that .
The failing in January was not bringing in another winger, when the turnaround in our fortunes was down to having TC on one side, and Small on the other. We definitely wanted to bring someone in, wasn't there a last minute punt that missed the deadline?
Instead we have no direct replacement for either of our wide attackers, and have struggled every time one was missing.12 -
Im over it now. Hopefully we will look back on this as a minor blip that happened at the end of the season as we watch our team lift the playoff trophy at Wembley.12
