Charlton v Oldham - Poll, predictions, teams and pre-match views

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
With Leeds going on their holibobs for the next couple of weeks due to their plethora of international footballing superstars playing around the globe, Charlton have the chance to really push on with the next two home games and get the points on the board and return to the summit of the third division.

Come Saturday, Newpork’s rivals, Oldham visit The Valley having a decent season themselves and will be confident about getting something against a Charlton team who have only won once in the last 5 attempts in the league.

With rumours of our favourite Millwall hater out for another couple of weeks at least, Matt Spring will most likely deputise once again, as will the Chief Exec’s son if Lloydy does not shake off a muscle issue. The Sodge is also not available.

Are there any other changes you would like to see? Will Terry move over to the left after an impressive performance there against Leeds? Will Tamer Tuna be fishing for another chance upfront? Will Izzy be getting busy with Deon up front in a bold move from the Parky Plan B handbook?

Let’s go with your views…

Back to winning ways in the league for me.

No suprises in the formation/team other than possibly swapping Bailey and Racon from the start.

I do think McLeod is starting to really push hard for a starting place up front with Deon but we really can't lose the 'anchor' in midfield.

3-1 Charlton (Deon, Jonjo and Spring)
  • has to be a win if we've got real aspirations of automatic promotion ... win these next two and it will be time to BELIEVE!!

2-1 to us but very nervy

Going for a home win. Would like to think we will have too much for Oldham despite them going pretty well at present. Not a cakewalk but I don't see them as potential challengers come May!

Can't name many of their players if I'm honest (Rick Holden, Ian Marshall, Earl Barrett, Frankie Bunn and Ernie someone - that's it for their alumni I'm afraid)

    comfortable 2-0

Think Semedo and Llera will be back so a return to winning ways with a winning team.

That includes a bicycle kick from Izale and a lob from Deon

Can't see Izale doing a bicycle kick - he needs stabilisers just to stand up :-)

1-0 and nervy for me. Late winner from Izzy coming on off the bench.

Oldham are tight defensively and don't score many so it's time for all that to change. Us to win 9-6.

I can see us losing this if Sam and Richardson are both missing as, willing though they undoubtedly are, Solly and Waggy are presently too lightweight I think. We could perhaps get away with one or the other but not both I fear.

    2-1 Oldham

Having read Parky's comments I don't think Solly will play if Richardson is out. He's hinting he will shift Youga across and bring Basey in. Seems worried about the height of the Oldham left winger.

Anyway, I reckon it will be an absolutely dire 0-0.

Big chance to get back on track after the 'awkward' matches of recent weeks. Stating the obvious 3 pts in this and our next match (also at home) would give us back that level of comfort we all crave. So being Charlton it'll be a draw 1-1!

Think this will be tight, but going for 2-0. Burton and Bailey the two scorers. Another match I'm gonna miss, so will follow on here as usual.
  • 3-1
We'll go one down, get back a goal just before half time, take the lead early 2nd half, and while they go to get an equaliser we score another.

Who will play - no idea!

    2-0, Burton and Bailey.

I reckon Basey will play if Richardson is out and he deserves it. He was excellent at CB on Tues night and even better,IMO , when he switched to LB. The more I've thought about the game since Tues, I think that Basey's performance may turn out to be the biggest plus of the entire evening. Thought he really looked the business, in both positions.

I think I'll head to the bookies with this.
  • Home win...

No idea about the team or formation with so many injury problems.
